Re: [AI] Hindi support on Nokia E 72

2011-03-18 Thread Mukesh Sharma
Sir,
I don't think you are only looking for Hindi Fonts as they will not enable
your Screen Reader to read it, I guess you are looking for language support
in the phone.
What I know, there are specific firmware of E72 for Indian region but it is
not possible to find if the Hindi support is available or not.
You can check the firmware information for all nokia phones at
http://hunajatehdas.net/nokia/firmware/en/model:E72-1

To check language support, call nokia India.

There are hacks to change phone firmware, let me know if you would like to
Go ahead.

To check the available TTS for your phone visit
http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/text-to-speech#9
Please note, there are no HQ TTS for E72.
The trick is, if you find Hindi HQ voice for the model you have, it confirm
that the Hindi Language support is there on the phone with a particular
firmware version.

Thanks
Mukesh

Hi Sir,

The URL mentioned is either not accessible or has not the complete

The site reads as follows:

allows you to listen to text messages, multimedia messages, and emails.
Text-to-speech is:

a.. a convenient and hands-free way to access your messages

Text-to-speech uses the Message Reader application built into compatible
Series 60 mobile phones. The service is available only for selected phones
where the application is preinstalled. To use Text-to-speech, you will need
to install one language package and a corresponding voice package.

1.. Select your device from the list below.

[AI] Scope of Economics for blind students

2011-03-18 Thread Kartik Sawhney
Hi friends,

I have to submit choices for the subject options in class XI within
two or three more days. I am in a dilemma what to offer as the fifth
subject besides Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The choices are
Computer Science or Economics. Which would be a better option? What is
the scope of Economics for blind students? Is it manageable with the
various visuals or curves etc? Do the colleges permit the students to
pursue Eco. (Hons.) and other such disciplines?

Would be great if somebody could answer these questions for me!

Regards,
-Kartik

Re: [AI] Scope of Economics for blind students

2011-03-18 Thread Vamshi. G
Hi Kartik,

Economics is very much manageable and there are no constrains in
pursuing it in higher studies. But your core subjects being Maths,
Physics and Chemistry, and your potential career being in sciences,
computers is the subject that will fit into the curriculum. The only
reason you would want economics is if you want to do economics with
maths and statistics in graduation and econometrics in post graduation
which will allow you to pursue career in research. If you are looking
to pursue engineering, then computers is the better choice.

far, I've not been able to get a positive assurance from either the

taking up Economics so that I could have a stand-by choice for myself,

Re: [AI] Scope of Economics for blind students

2011-03-18 Thread aditi bhutani
Hello Kartik,

Vanshi has rightly pointed out that your choice of subject should depend on
your future career plans. Economics is definately a good option but only if
you are planning to go for Research and Analysis as your career. We have a
few Blind friends who have done their PhD in Ecomomics and we also have Mr.
Dharamrajan who is an IES Officer. In case you are planning to pursue
engeneering , computer science would be an added advantage.

An insight into Economic is definately inevitable in today's world where a
lot of finance and ecomomics is discussed daily. You can always learn it for
your pleasure and knowladge.

Re: [AI] Scope of Economics for blind students

2011-03-18 Thread Vamshi. G
Dear Kartik,

Now a days we have a few people studied/studying engineering. Also
there are a few people who have done courses like BCA. So, getting
into sciences shouldn't be that big a problem. If you are really
interested to do engineering, then you should be able to do it.

As far as keeping economics as a stand by is concerned, with all due
respect to the subject, it is an easy subject and you should be at
total ease even if you take it at the graduation level. Studying it
from the HSC level is really not a prerequisite.

Besides, having computers in your curriculum will make it that much
easier to convince an engineering college that you can pursue
engineering in computers. All that you need to say is that, I have
done it before, so I can do it now.

On the other hand, if you have economics, you will even get
suggestions from them saying that since you have studied economics, it
would be better for you to take up arts in graduation.

Personally, I advise you to take up computers and go into engineering,
unless you have intentions like doing C A.

received yesterday, it was mentioned in it, that they still r alowing people to
sign, so that they can proowe the vodafone, that they will go under a huge
loss, if they stop wf. The petition r also been signed, so that wf can become
an open source project again.

Re: [AI] Scope of Economics for blind students

2011-03-18 Thread Pranav Lal
Hello Kartik,

Disclaimer: my experience of economics relates to the early 90s. Much may
have changed since then.

Economics at the class 11 and class 12 levels is not a significant problem.
You do study topics like indifference curves but those diagrams are easy to
draw and remember and a rubber mat with German film will solve your diagram
related needs. However, you have a significant issue in terms of taking the
exams. You have no easy way to verify what the writer is doing when he is
drawing from your verbal description. I do not know if German film or other
manual drawing aides are permitted in exams these days. Even then, the
accuracy of what the writer is doing remains something to be checked.

I did not pursue economics in college due to its inaccessibility. How do you
see the diagrams in class? Can you get *all* the text books you need in
accessible format? What do you do about photocopied handouts that the
professor gives? He may not have any electronic versions.

You are going to need a lot of support. If you want to pursue engineering,
have you considered education abroad where this kind of access is better?

One thing that did help me in class 11 and 12 was extra individual coaching.
Be prepared to invest in this. Most of your fellow students will be going
for extra classes; the only difference will be that you will have one-on-one
sessions and they will go for group classes.
Pranav
