Hi friends,

It’s in high spirits to see a mail on this list concerning the
attainment
of a visually challenged girl in the UPSC results. But unfortunately
there

are certain doubts on her feat. My only intension here is, only to bring
clarity and not to let down any one.
Firstly, the 78th rank belongs to a male candidate
[78 153687 NILESHKUMAR MAHADEV KSHIRSAGAR]
There is no prospect to even dream 78th rank in the disable list because
there are less than 78 ranks.
Secondly, the person who is declaring and going for a huge publicity in
the media belongs to Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh her name is A
Swathi. But in the entire list there are only two names being found with
the name swathi, they are
[312 SWATI CHOPRA [ and [646 SWATI SHAHI].

I myself gone through the whole rankings, but could not find the person
called A Swati. The same news is getting published in the newspapers
daily, if this continues, it may damage the fame of visually challenged
candidates in the future, it may not effect everywhere everyone, but, it
will certainly show pessimistic impact on the visually challenged
community in that particular locality.

If she had really attained that success, every one of us will without
doubt feel happy. But if it results in a depressing conclusion then, one
has to think what to do with this sort of exposure.

I am not blaming anyone at this point, ass it is media hype, every one
will think that it is authentic information. I request the members to
react and bring clarity on this issue, so that we can avoid this
promotion.

Thanks in regards,
Raghavaiah

Re: [AI] Kingfisher crew offloads blind woman with kids

2011-05-24 Thread Sathiyaprakash Ramdoss
Hmm!Discrimination instances against disabled by airlines keep
accumulating in India?
Few instances from the past-
 Example-1: Taken from-
http://www.dnis.org/news.php?issue_id=13&volume_id=3&news_id=464&i=7

Ali, 26, with locomotor disability, booked a ticket on Indian Airlines
and was placed on the waiting list. For nearly a month he was on the
waitlist no. 1, without getting a confirmed seat.
He has alleged that it was not a case of excess booking with Indian
Airlines (as several persons who had booked tickets after him were
given confirmed status), but because he booked his ticket under the
category of disabled persons.
Indian Airlines issues ‘M’ category tickets at concessional rates to
visually impaired people and people with locomotor disability of 80
per cent and above. Ali claims that the practice of the company is to
issue only waitlisted tickets to disabled persons, regardless of how
well in advance they may have booked the tickets, and not confirm them
until the time of departure so as to accommodate passengers paying the
full fare.
As per the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995, as also directions of
the Supreme Court of India, Indian Airlines, as a state-owned carrier,
is under legal obligation to pursue disabled-friendly policies.
Through his counsel S. S. Dey, Arman Ali filed a writ petition praying
for non-discrimination by Indian Airlines in issuing ‘M’ class
tickets, and further direction to the airline for giving confirmed
ticket on booking by a person with disability on his availing a ticket
at concession rate solely on the criteria of availability of seats on
aircraft and not on any other commercial consideration.
Justice A. Roy, in his order dated 24 June, has issued a show cause
notice of motion to the Ministry of Civil Aviation as well as the
Indian Airlines Ltd. asking as to why the prayers of the petitioner
should not be granted and has fixed the matter for 18 July, for
further consideration and necessary orders.

Example-2: Taken from;
http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2007-06-20/india/27990719_1_disabled-protest-human-chain-rajiv-rajan
Disabled protest in Chennai airport against offloading NGO activist
PTI, Jun 20, 2007, 02.06pm IST
CHENNAI: About 100 physically challenged persons on Wednesday formed a
human chain in front of the domestic airport here in protest of
refusal by a private airline's to allow a cerebral palsy victim to
board the aircraft without an escort.
Holding placards, the disabled, most of them in wheelchairs, held a
peaceful protest by forming the human chain for nearly 90 minutes.
They demanded equal rights and urged the Government to put an end to
discrimination against the disabled.
"We've been facing discrimination from various airlines and Monday's
incident was the height of it. It not only violated human rights, but
also the International Civil Aviation rules," said Smitha, Assistant
Coordinator - Vidyasagar, an NGO which organised the agitation.

Example 3: Taken from;
http://www.petertan.com/blog/2007/12/20/widespread-discrimination-of-disabled-passengers-by-low-cost-airlines/

The Hindustan Times news titled Airline Displays Callousness in
December 19 reported that Sanjiv Sachdeva was asked to sign a bond to
absolve Jetlite from all responsibilities should anything happen to
him in a flight on December 16. Jetlite is an India-based low cost
carrier. Sanjiv has filed a complaint with the Directorate General of
Aviation and the Commissioner of Diabilities.
In the same newspaper report, another wheelchair user Mahesh
Chandrashekar was subjected to similar conditions by Deccan, India’s
first low-fare airline. Mahesh was reported to have said that the
language used in the indemnity form sounded prejudiced, embarrassing,
derogatory and appeared as if a favour has been doled out to a
passenger with disability who is travelling on a fully-paid ticket.
Indemnity forms are worded in such a way that the person who signed it
absolves the airline from all blame should anything happen. Too bad if
that person dies or is injured as a result of flying with the airline.
To add insult to injury, if the airline has to incur additional costs
because of that person, the said person has to bear all that. Tell me,
where is justice in that? Heads I lose. Tails also I lose. Mana boleh?
Unbelievable? Go read the indemnity form that Airsia made me sign.

Shame on you Civil Aviation ministry of India!. Thank You.

Your's Sathiyaprakash

Re: [AI] Fwd: the procedure how to up loard files to dropbox

2011-05-24 Thread Jyotsna
Pasting below steps to use Dropbox which was shared by someone earlier
on this list.

Hi friends,
Hope you all are rocking!
As I wrote the steps to send files using drop box, for some of my
friends, so sharing with you, thinking it would be of help to someone.
So those of you who knows, sorry for this mail.
In dropbox, we have 2 main options to share files:
1.
Sending someone a file using " public folder. "
2.
Sharing files with someone using " share folder option ".
Now, 1st let's throw a light on Sending someone a file using public
folder option:
Note:
Please remember, that using this option, you can send only 1 single file.
For sending multiple files, you have to send it as a zipped file.
Steps:
If you go to my documents, you will find an icon " my drop box ".
Open it and you will find public folder.
Open this public folder and paste your desired file in this folder.
 Now it will start uploading
To check it's status of uploading, press insert+f11 to open the system tray
icon and check with down arrow keys " dropbox", or just press letter D,
and mister jaws would say something like, " dropbox 1 file uploading..."
Once it is uploaded, it would say, " dropbox all files up to date ".
Once it's done, go to my dropbox/public folder, and keep the cursor on your
file which you are uploading.
Here, press the application key, and open dropbox sub menu, and then
finally, hit enter on " copy public link " option.
Now go to your desired place, or the Email which you are sending and just
paste the link there, and you are ready to go!
Now about " share folder " option:
1st trying to throw a spot light on this option:
share folder option gives us freedom to share a folder between computers.
So any file kept in this folder, will be available in both the computers.
Aha! remembering the awsome movie, " 3 ediots ", toe demo kar kay bataana
chaahta hoo.
Imagine, we are sharing a folder named, " Krishna ".
Now, go to your my dropbox, which will be in my documents by default, and
create a folder, and name it as Krishna.
Now copy your desired file which you want me to send, and paste it into
Krishna folder.
It can be any file, text or an audio such as a Krishna bhajan etc...
now, once it finishes uploading, go to my dropbox, keep cursor on that
Krishna folder, press application key on that folder, and with down/up arrow
keys, keep cursor on dropbox sub menu and press right arrow to open it, or
simply press D to reach there, and open it with right arrow.
Now with up arrow key, hit enter on " share this folder... option ".
Now the dropbox web page will be opened...
Once it's been loaded, look for " Enter recipient email addresses here ".
Under this you will find an edit box saying, "Enter recipient email
addresses here edit. "
So enter the person's Email address to whom you want to share this folder with,
in this edit box, so according to our example, bhavesh.dha...@gmail.com

After entering Email address, there will be a heading stating sending a
personal message to that person.
So if you wish to write a note, you can write in that below given edit box.
Now, you are ready to fly this krishna folder across 7 seas, all over to
Dubai, so just hit enter in the below button saying, " share folder button
" .
So now, I will get an Email, as well as you will get a confirmation mail.
So I have to just click the link given in that mail, so the dropbox web page
will be opened, and I have to accept it from the web page.
once i do this, automatically, it will start downloading in my laptop, and
once downloading is finished, I will see " Krishna " folder in my dropbox,
and inside it, the melodious bhajan in your melodious voice! (smiles)
Aha! seems you are tired reading all this right?
Okay not boring you more, and shutting down!
Sorry if any errors.
 Bye, God Bless, keep laughing!

Friend of myne forwarded me this information

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/article/0gG70zO9fqb0C

Kindly copy the message and send the email to chair
kingfisher airlines, NHRC, DGCA.

Subject: Act immediately

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

To:

The Chair Person,

King Fisher Airlines

Dear Chair Person,

Sub-Registering protest for immediate and appropriate action against
guilty crew

This is to register our strong protest against the inhuman, cruel and
indecent behaviour of your crew and other airline members shown towards a
woman with visual impairment and her 2 children. We are shocked and
humiliated by the act and express our serious concern over the matter.
This is the clear case of violation of the provisions enshrined in The "UN
Convention on the Rights of Persons with disabilities-2006" where India
has signed and ratified the same; Guidelines issued by DGCA for all
airlines with regard to persons with disabilities in May 2007; Persons
with disabilities Act 1995 and other human rights treaties and
conventions.

Disabled community of this country strongly condemns this act with clear
and loud words."Violation or Exclusion of persons with disabilities from
enjoying their human rights on an equal basis with others cannot be
excused any more". We urge you to initiate immediate and appropriate
action against the guilty crew and the parties concerned who are
accountable for this inhuman act.

We look forward to hear from you as early as possible about the action
taken against the guilty and measures taken to prevent this kind of acts
in future.

For more details on the incident please read below.

With warm regards,

Victor

Kingfisher crew offloads blind woman with kids

Airline makes them disembark from flight, leaves them unattended for
nearly an hour and a half as aircraft takes off without them

A private airline made a blind woman and her two children disembark from
her connecting flight to Goa and left them unattended for nearly an hour
and a half while the plane took off without them.

Adding insult to injury, the airline's staff allegedly told the woman that
she could not travel with two kids because she was blind.

Shabnam Mansuri had flown in to Mumbai from Ahmedabad with sons Lukman (7)
and 18-month-old Luftaan, and was on her way to Goa when the incident
happened

Shabnam Mansuri (35) says the experience has made her realise the fallacy
of thinking that she can be treated like everyone else despite her
handicap.

On May 10, Mansuri was travelling with her sons Lukman (7) and
18-month-old Luftaan from Ahmedabad to Goa via Mumbai to meet her husband.
Her tickets had been booked with Kingfisher Airlines.

"I boarded the Kingfisher flight from Ahmedabad and reached Mumbai, from
where I was supposed to take a connecting flight to Goa.

I had barely taken a seat in the connecting flight around 12.30 pm when a
crew member came and asked me to follow him. He also asked me to take my
cabin baggage and kids with me.

Initially, I thought that he must be changing my seat, but realised
something was amiss when he took me down some stairs," said Mansuri.

"I asked him why he was making me get off the plane but he refused to
answer. When my kids and I got off, they closed the aircraft's doors and
took off, leaving us standing there.

One attendant told me later that I cannot travel with two kids as I am
blind. I was shocked," she added. She kept telling the attendant that she
had two young kids and needed to meet her husband in Goa, but to no avail.

Finally, close to 2 pm, a staff member came and told her that they would
arrange for her to board a 4.40 pm flight to Goa."I did not want to bank
on them anymore. I called my husband and he arranged for us to board
another airline's 3.10 pm flight.

My question is, how can they let me travel from Ahmedabad to Mumbai
without any trouble and then say I cannot travel with two kids from Mumbai
to Goa? I was travelling on the same airline in both cases," said Mansuri.

She said the experience was one of the worst she's had in her life. "I am
blind but that doesn't mean they have the right to discriminate against
me.

I had paid the full fare and if they had some problems, they should have
informed me before I boarded. My elder son is so traumatised by the
incident; he says he do

Hi all,
Firstly I don't know the facts and except on Facebook, I didn't put in any
efforts to investigate as we trust people. I yet feel the news could be true
since making so much publicity is not that easy for a false news that too for a
government employee.

If someone really needs a clarity, my suggestion would be to file RTI.
Thanks,

will adopt the Windows 7 Phone as its main smartphone strategyNEW
YORK: Microsoft will ship Windows 8 for desktop computers and tablets
next year and the updated Windows Phone 7 will have 500 new features.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said, "As we progress through the year,
you ought to expect to hear a lot about Windows 8. Windows 8 slates,
tablets, PCs, a variety of different form factors."

The Microsoft chief, who was addressing a developers' meet in Tokyo,
also said that the upgraded Windows Phone 7 -- to be announced -- will
also have 500 new features.

Announcing that the company has sold over 350 million Windows 7 PCs
this year, he said, "We have done a lot in Windows 7 to improve
customer satisfaction. We have a brand-new user interface. We have
added touch and ink and speech. And yet, as we look forward to the
next generation of Windows systems, which will come out next year,
there is a whole lot more coming."

Calling the release of Windows Phone 7 in November "about a year later
than I wish we had", the Microsoft chief said, "But we are moving
forward very actively. We launched Windows Phones last November. We
have done a set of upgrades. We have a release that will come to
market later this year in Japan. Not only is it a new release that is
now much more global, but we have added over 500 new features to
Windows Phone."

Interestingly, Microsoft had played up Windows Phone 7 at the November
launch by dubbing iPhone and Google Android devices as 'faulty' in
design.

"It (Window Phone 7) really speaks to our commitment to understanding
what consumers want, and our resurrection in the mobile category,"
Todd Peters, corporate vice president of the Mobile Communications
Marketing Group, had said.

He had described Windows Phone 7 as Microsoft's answer to "poor
smartphone design that keeps people fumbling with their phones as they
walk down the block or sit down to dinner with family."

But this strategy didn't pay off. The software giant has now entered
into a strategic tie-up with global handset market leader Nokia, which
will adopt the Windows 7 Phone as its main smartphone strategy.

Re: [AI] congratulations to Swathi madam for her achievement in Civils:

2011-05-24 Thread K. Nageswaraiah
From the above two mails, it seems that her so called achievement is not a true
one and also, she and her supporters are resorting to this type of undue
publicity, which will in future, affect the credibility of such claims by the
visually impaired. Thanks to my friends I had also gone through the list of
successful candidates but didn't find her name therein. If she had achieved
anything great, let her prove it to the local people there and win their
confidence.

Hi friends,

It’s in high spirits to see a mail on this list concerning the attainment of a
visually challenged girl in the UPSC results. But unfortunately there are
certain doubts on her feat. My only intension here is, only to bring clarity
and not to let down any one.
Firstly, the 78th rank belongs to a male candidate
[78 153687 NILESHKUMAR MAHADEV KSHIRSAGAR]
There is no prospect to even dream 78th rank in the disable list because there
are less than 78 ranks.
Secondly, the person who is declaring and going for a huge publicity in the
media belongs to Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh her name is A Swathi. But
in the entire list there are only two names being found with the name swathi,
they are
[312 SWATI CHOPRA [ and [646 SWATI SHAHI].

I myself gone through the whole rankings, but could not find the person called
A Swati. The same news is getting published in the newspapers daily, if this
continues, it may damage the fame of visually challenged candidates in the
future, it may not effect everywhere everyone, but, it will certainly show
pessimistic impact on the visually challenged community in that particular
locality.

If she had really attained that success, every one of us will without doubt
feel happy. But if it results in a depressing conclusion then, one has to think
what to do with this sort of exposure.

I am not blaming anyone at this point, ass it is media hype, every one will
think that it is authentic information. I request the members to react and
bring clarity on this issue, so that we can avoid this promotion.

Thanks in regards,
 Raghavaiah

[AI] One more clickjacking Face book attack - "First Exposure: iPhone 5" scam. Please beware before you go on facebook & open link

2011-05-24 Thread Amit Sanghvi

- Subject: One more clickjacking Facebook attack - "First Exposure:
iPhone 5" scam.

One more clickjacking Facebook attack - "First Exposure: iPhone 5" scam.

Few weeks back it was Bin
Laden execution video scam on Facebook and now its "First Exposure: iPhone
5" scam that is going around. Facebook users are fooled into automatically
spreading spam by clicking on what looks like a link to a hot topic news
titled as "First Exposure: iPhone 5".

This new scam is exploiting people's interest in the next generation of
iPhone. Facebook users may see some of their fiends comment on a link that
looks like a news about iPhone 5. Actually link takes you to the website
"greatlakesnews. info" and from there different webpages open into the
browser. First a webpage that has a captcha window asking user to verify a
word, this is to make sure that the link is not being scanned by some
automated bot or anti-malware scanner. Once the user enters the captcha in
the window and it verifies that the user is not a bot but a human being it
immediately posts a message to all your friends indicating that you have
commented on the news and provides all your friends with a bogus iPhone 5
news link. It further takes you to different websites that market different
products and display various advertisements.

Social Media like Facebook has made it very easy for such clickjacking
attacks as it is very difficult to identify genuine links posted by the
friend circle and that by a clickjacking attack. The very important change
here is the captcha window which is trying to avoid automated antimalware
scan as legitimate sites do not really make you prove that you are a human
to read the news articles.

My recommendation is avoid reading the "First Exposure: iPhone 5" article
posted on Facebook.

[AI] Kingfisher crew offloads blind woman with kids

2011-05-24 Thread Pradeep banakar
Friend of myne forwarded me this information

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/article/0gG70zO9fqb0C

Kindly copy the message and send the email to chair kingfisher
airlines, NHRC, DGCA.

Subject: Act immediately

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

To:

The Chair Person,

King Fisher Airlines

Dear Chair Person,

Sub-Registering protest for immediate and appropriate action against guilty crew

This is to register our strong protest against the inhuman, cruel and indecent
behaviour of your crew and other airline members shown towards a woman with
visual impairment and her 2 children. We are shocked and humiliated by the act
and express our serious concern over the matter. This is the clear case of
violation of the provisions enshrined in The "UN Convention on the Rights of
Persons with disabilities-2006" where India has signed and ratified the same;
Guidelines issued by DGCA for all airlines with regard to persons with
disabilities in May 2007; Persons with disabilities Act 1995 and other human
rights treaties and conventions.

Disabled community of this country strongly condemns this act with clear and
loud words."Violation or Exclusion of persons with disabilities from enjoying
their human rights on an equal basis with others cannot be excused any more".
We urge you to initiate immediate and appropriate action against the guilty
crew and the parties concerned who are accountable for this inhuman act.

We look forward to hear from you as early as possible about the action taken
against the guilty and measures taken to prevent this kind of acts in future.

For more details on the incident please read below.

With warm regards,

Victor

Kingfisher crew offloads blind woman with kids

Airline makes them disembark from flight, leaves them unattended for nearly an
hour and a half as aircraft takes off without them

A private airline made a blind woman and her two children disembark from her
connecting flight to Goa and left them unattended for nearly an hour and a half
while the plane took off without them.

Adding insult to injury, the airline's staff allegedly told the woman that she
could not travel with two kids because she was blind.

Shabnam Mansuri had flown in to Mumbai from Ahmedabad with sons Lukman (7) and
18-month-old Luftaan, and was on her way to Goa when the incident happened

Shabnam Mansuri (35) says the experience has made her realise the fallacy of
thinking that she can be treated like everyone else despite her handicap.

On May 10, Mansuri was travelling with her sons Lukman (7) and 18-month-old
Luftaan from Ahmedabad to Goa via Mumbai to meet her husband. Her tickets had
been booked with Kingfisher Airlines.

"I boarded the Kingfisher flight from Ahmedabad and reached Mumbai, from where
I was supposed to take a connecting flight to Goa.

I had barely taken a seat in the connecting flight around 12.30 pm when a crew
member came and asked me to follow him. He also asked me to take my cabin
baggage and kids with me.

Initially, I thought that he must be changing my seat, but realised something
was amiss when he took me down some stairs," said Mansuri.

"I asked him why he was making me get off the plane but he refused to answer.
When my kids and I got off, they closed the aircraft's doors and took off,
leaving us standing there.

One attendant told me later that I cannot travel with two kids as I am blind. I
was shocked," she added. She kept telling the attendant that she had two young
kids and needed to meet her husband in Goa, but to no avail.

Finally, close to 2 pm, a staff member came and told her that they would
arrange for her to board a 4.40 pm flight to Goa."I did not want to bank on
them anymore. I called my husband and he arranged for us to board another
airline's 3.10 pm flight.

My question is, how can they let me travel from Ahmedabad to Mumbai without any
trouble and then say I cannot travel with two kids from Mumbai to Goa? I was
travelling on the same airline in both cases," said Mansuri.

She said the experience was one of the worst she's had in her life. "I am blind
but that doesn't mean they have the right to discriminate against me.

I had paid the full fare and if they had some problems, they should have
informed me before I boarded. My elder son is so traumatised by the incident;
he says he does not want to fly anymore."

Husband reacts
Mansuri's husband, Samir, who is the Chairman of Blinds Dream, an NGO, wrote a
letter to the airline to complain about the treatment meted out to her.

A portion of the letter states, "Kingfisher officials told my wife that if she
thought they were cruel, she shouldn't travel with them anymore."

"What the Kingfisher staff did to my wife is shameful. They had done something
similar with me in 2005 (see box) and I will not let them get away this time.
