The software is produced by the Blind and Low Vision group of Freedom Scientific, USA. According to the School headmistress Y Durgabati Devi, the Institute has six computers under the provision of the Union Ministry since 2003 but the gadgets were of insignificant use to the students as there is paucity of fund for upgrading the technology. Hey Rahul, Even I think that that might be the best method. But does it always go in the right place if you do that? I do have some usable vision, so I can sometimes place the hole in the middle of the bowl. But is it necessary for you to ensure that it goes in that hole only, or does it get washed away even if it goes at any other place inside the bowl? Because, if it does get washed away even if it is in another place in the bowl except the hole, then sitting would indeed be the best option. Even if you typed the right symbols to make a smiley face like for example the ones listed below in this email, you will notice that JAWS just does not read it exactly as how it is or not as an emoticon or smiley: Use reading keys to get the symbols after the first colon from the description of the smiley. For smile: :) For laugh: :D For cool: 8-) For sad: :( I suggest that if you are writing to another screen reader user you should use the words like sad, smile, laugh etc. to express the emoticons or smileys. But for a sighted person use the symbols illustrated above. Hello Members, Gone are the days where you would find men on horses with a rifle setting out to rob a bank. In todays world of technology bandits as we know them are online and are getting smarter by the minute. With so many net citizens it makes it very easy for the internet wrong doers to target the ones who just know that using the internet is a cool factor where yoou can brag to others about that ipod you got a great deal on an internet shopping site. Todays email discusses keylogger (keystroke logger, key logger, or system monitor) The technical side: A keylogger, sometimes called a keystroke logger, key logger, or system monitor, is a hardware device or small program that monitors each keystroke a user types on a specific computer's keyboard. As a hardware device, a keylogger is a small battery-sized plug that serves as a connector between the user's keyboard and computer. Because the device resembles an ordinary keyboard plug, it is relatively easy for someone who wants to monitor a user's behavior to physically hide such a device in plain sight. (It also helps that most workstation keyboards plug into the back of the computer.) As the user types, the device collects each keystroke and saves it as text in its own miniature hard drive. At a later point in time, the person who installed the keylogger must return and physically remove the device in order to access the information the device has gathered. A keylogger program does not require physical access to the user's computer. It can be downloaded on purpose by someone who wants to monitor activity on a particular computer or it can be downloaded unwittingly as spyware and executed as part of a rootkit or remote administration (RAT) Trojan horse. A keylogger program typically consists of two files that get installed in the same directory: a dynamic link library ( DLL) file (which does all the recording) and an executable file (.EXE) that installs the DLL file and triggers it to work. The keylogger program records each keystroke the user types and uploads the information over the Internet periodically to whoever installed the program. Although keylogger programs are promoted for benign purposes like allowing parents to monitor their children's whereabouts on the Internet, most privacy advocates agree that the potential for abuse is so great that legislation should be enacted to clearly make the unauthorized use of keyloggers a criminal offense. The threat as users of the internet: Keylogging programs and devices present a serious threat to the security of individual and networked computing systems. One particularly scary and dangerous feature of all keylogging programs and keylogging hardware devices is recording of computer user's keystrokes for the purpose of monitoring computer activity. While you are typing out your password and credit card details online it is possible a hacker can be recording your every keystroke. So keystroke monitoring feature is main core of any spy software. Without such core feature any spy software is absolutely ineffective and unavailing. Keylogging Programs and Hardware Devices also walk the fine line between security administration and security breach. As with scanners and sniffers, the question comes down to intent. Some companies use commercial loggers to monitor employees suspected of resource misuse. While most employees might feel this invades their privacy, such monitoring can be useful for capturing of corporate spies. Law enforcement agencies may also use keystroke loggers to gather evidence on suspected criminals. On the other hand, staffers may download freeware keystroke loggers from hacker warez sites to turn the tables and illicitly spy on their boss or coworkers. How to protect your system from keyloggers? to defend your computer from keyloggers, spyware and viruses. Here's a run-down of what you can do to keep your computer safe and sound: 1. Get a virus scanner. Grisoft provides one for free. Be sure to configure it to scan your system regularly and to check for updates. (Even the best anti-virus software won't do you any good if it doesn't know about the latest virus information -- so keep it updated!) 2. Get a free anti-spyware program and run it. Spy Sweeper is a good one. As with your anti-virus software, be sure to configure it to scan your system regularly and check for updates. 3. Install firewall software that prevents any unauthorized access between your computer and the Internet. Comodo is recommended. Again, its free and well regarded. 4. Be sure to run the latest version of your browser software. Whether it's Internet Explorer or Firefox, keep it patched and up to date!
