[AI] Commodity section of eco times

2012-06-20 Thread Ekinath Khedekar
Hi Friends,

For my work purpose, i need to access e-paper copy of economic times.

In there, i need to go in to economy/commodity to check cement prices.

Is anybody experienced on it. Is e-paper section accessible. Asking
you to save time as navigating eco times is very troublesome as it
offers all times publication etc.

thanks in advance

hi friends,
we have seen so much of daisy now a days. but I have never used it so far. I
am very much uneducated in this matter. I don't know anything except that it
is an accessible format, it uses text and audio, it easier for quick
navigation than MP3, and so on. I want to know some thing about this system
including: basic information, how to produce and convert other files into
daisy, what are the programs for it, (preferably freewares) which are the
good daisy players, how to edit and add bookmarks in these files, what are
the advantages over other formats, how about daisy files in Indian
languages, etc. so, please suggest me the best sources of this information
as well as programs.

thanking you

2012-06-20 Thread Umesha Economics

Hi,
as per my knowledge, the admission cards are not downloadable at this time.
at the time of applying for NET, after applying online, one has to take a
print out of the filled in application, attendance slip and admission cards
which the system provides and submit them to their respective test centers.
after scrutiny and filling some details like venue and others, the center
coordinators will send your admission cards to you through post. have done
all this? have you not received the post? check at your delivery address,
enquire the post and communicate with the coordinator. wish you all the best
for the exam.

blind people can contest for elections and no restrictions on that. also,
few persons have contested in the past. but one has to face the challenges

Subject: [AI] doubt about blind being leader of nation or state

hi all
I hope u all must have heard of one person who was the former
president of Russia. If I m not wrong, his name was Franklen Rosvald.
He was wheel chair addicted as he was an handicap. Why I told about
him is, even he was disabled inspite of that disabilities, he became
the main leader for his country that is president or some thing, if I
am not mistaken.
So, can blind also stand for election, if so, are there hindrance or
restriction like the blind should be nominated not elected? or he
should not be a leader at all?
or is it vice-varsa? or lastly, he has certain limitations of his
portfolios??

Please give your most valuable suggestion help me

after scrutiny and filling some details like venue and others, the center

hello,
you need to apply for the transaction rights while taking the net
banking acility activated by your bank. merely applying for net
banking does not give you the privillage to transfer the fund to other
account. if you have not put tick mark on the colomn transaction
rights then apply to your bank separately.
hope that helps.

Re: [AI] Denial of banking facilities

2012-06-20 Thread mukesh jain
hello,
if your bank is sbi, then you need to just fill up the net banking
registration form giving the details of your bank account and just put
tick mark on remark yes in the colomn want transaction rights. my
branch manager asked me to write the separate application along with
the undertaking from my sighted joint account holder to which i have
strictly refused as this is not applicable to the sighted customer.
after the long debate he had agreed to enable the transaction rights
to my bank account.
so my suggestion is not to give anything additionally in writing
except the procedure applicable for the sighted customer too and alert
you to make such mistakes which i am sure you know. because to take
such kind of undertaking my branch manager was taking the shelter of
emotional situations with the intention to trying to over react to
safeguard the interest of the customer to which i had realised
tactfully and refused his demands.
 thanks,
mukesh.

that means bank did not provide transactional rights to you.
So you have to make a written request for transactional rights by

Subject: [AI] Denial of banking facilities

 All

We are making some efforts to collect data on the type and extent of
denial of banking services despite favourable regulatory norms.

One of the difficulty to confront this problem is the lack of
documentation. As the banks reject the application orally and don't give

anything in writing there is nothing to fall back on to take this
 ahead.

One of our member anticipating a negative reply recorded the
conversation, we need more of such examples to prove the violation is
 not merely some isolated incident.

Folks all who have been denied banking facility do something similar and

help us with enough evidences to take this issue forward.

Please write to me directly on har...@accessindia.org.in.

May I expect responses by June 30?

 Regards
 Harish Kotian.

Re: [AI] accessibility future in India

2012-06-20 Thread SYED IMRAN
Why free screen readers / operating systems do not have better features is
because they do not generate enough revenue. So a solution to this is rather
than going for piracy, we can also consider donating to the organisations
who are involved in developing free software. At least 5% of what we ought
to pay for a full featured screen reading software if we could donate that
to these organisations will make a bit of much needed difference.

[AI] FW: [SayEverything] Sympathy not the solution

Subject: [SayEverything] Sympathy not the solution

Sympathy not the solution
  Rahul Cherian
  The Hindu
The Constitution must be amended to prohibit discrimination against the
disabled and to bring them into the mainstream
In his column in The Hindu on June 11, 2012 titled One Simple Step to Increase
our GDP, Aamir Khan makes an important observation - how we behave with the
disabled among us tells us what kind of a people we are. And by that standard,
India is not the kid you would want to be best friends with in school. Mr. Khan
argues that the lack of education of the disabled is the problem and that
education is the solution to the problem, which will also possibly lead to an
increase in the GDP of the nation. We however believe that the problem is much
more fundamental than that, and that the main barrier to a progressive and
inclusive approach to persons with disabilities is the current framework of the
Constitution itself.

Rights and Acts

The rights of persons with disabilities are sketchily enshrined in various Acts
of Parliament - the Mental Health Act, 1987 (to regulate mental health
services), the National Trust Act, 1999 (for creation and monitoring of a trust
for the welfare of persons with autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and
multiple disabilities), the Rehabilitation Council of India Act, 1992 (to
regulate rehabilitation services), and the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995
(for everything else). All of these Acts do, in fact, achieve the objective of
treating the disabled as a different class altogether - which is the premise of
the law on disability in India.

India is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons
with Disabilities which specifically states that persons with disabilities are
to be treated as equals to persons without disabilities. In his column, Mr.
Khan cites instances where persons with disabilities have been looked upon as
those unloved by god - and we would venture to state that this is eerily
reminiscent of the treatment meted out for centuries against those classified
as untouchables. It took years of campaigning and awareness to eradicate, to
some extent, such approaches, but what is undeniable is that Article 17 of the
Constitution, which prohibits the practice of untouchability, has helped
eradicate it to a great extent. The historic experience of untouchability in
India meant that the Constitution was designed to respond to such
discrimination.

In a sense, having a disability forces the person to be excluded from all
aspects of society, including with respect to education, workplace,
transportation, access to public places and everywhere else for that matter. It
is not far from the truth to say that the denial of access makes persons with
disabilities outcastes. And the fault begins with the Constitution. Disabled
people will be able to articulate their moral and political citizenship only
when they move away from a benign charity model to a constitutional framework
of equal rights. The Constitution in Articles 15 (1) and (2) - which are in
Chapter III relating to Fundamental Rights - has an extremely robust provision
relating to prohibition of discrimination on the basis of religion, race,
caste, sex or place of birth. This provision prohibits discrimination not only
by the State but also by citizens with respect to access to shops, hotels,
public restaurants and places of public entertainment, among others. Moreover,
the Constitution also permits the State to make special provisions for the
advancement of any socially and educationally backward classes of citizens or
for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes.

Amendment of Articles

However, persons with disabilities have no similar protection from
discrimination under the Constitution. Nor does the Constitution prescribe that
special provisions can be taken to ensure that persons with disabilities are
included in society. Given this Constitutional framework, all downstream
law-making relating to persons with disabilities is based on sympathy and the
mood of the law makers at the given time and not based on the recognition of
the fundamental rights of persons with disabilities. No wonder then that the
100 million people with disabilities remain outside the ambit of what is
considered society.

Makes political sense

Thus we come to the Holy Grail for the disability movement in India - the
amendment of Articles 15 (1) and (2) to include the word disability as one of
the grounds on which discrimination shall be prohibited. But adding this word
may not be enough and we must go further. Unlike other classes of citizens,
mere non-discrimination will not bring

2012-06-20 Thread Shona Man
Hi friends we know that UGC net first two papers do not have negative
marking but the notification is silent about third paper regarding
negative marking. so tell me is there negative marking in third paper
this time as it will be objective type of paper?
tell one another thing that what may be nature of the questions as
there will be only 75 questions in third paper and time will be 2.5
hrs in general where we will be given 45 minutes extra, I think this
time is more then sufficient to solve 75 questions. I think the
questions will be passage based which will take more time whats your
opinion as to the nature of the questions of third paper?

Bottomline,
You have all the rights to avail of any service provided by banks;

We are making some efforts to collect data on the type and extent of denial
of banking services despite favourable regulatory norms.

One of the difficulty to confront this problem is the lack of documentation.
As the banks reject the application orally and don't give anything in
writing there is nothing to fall back on to take this ahead.

One of our member anticipating a negative reply recorded the conversation,
we need more of such examples to prove the violation is not merely some
 isolated incident.

Folks all who have been denied banking facility do something similar and
help us with enough evidences to take this issue forward.

Please write to me directly on har...@accessindia.org.in.

May I expect responses by June 30?
