Re: [AI] what is meant by Virtual PC?
hi all, I have installed Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 in my system. the hard disc capacity of my system is 500 GB and the capacity of RAM is 4 GB. my doubt is, JAWS is not speaking in Virtual PC. if I press any keys in keyboard, JAWS is speaking the key name. but, if I press windows key, start menu is getting displayed on the screen, but, JAWS is not giving output. if I go to my computers, JAWS is not reading the options in it. for sighted, it is working fine. so, folks please tell me how to make JAWS to work in Virtual PC. waiting for your response On 10/5/12, Ajay Minocha wrote: > Hi sir, > it is true that you can also make a dual boot system. [AI] For visually impaired SBI plans to roll out 4,000 'Talking ATMs'
For visually impaired SBI plans to roll out 4,000 'Talking ATMs' K R Srivats, The Business Line Published on October 5, 2012 New Delhi, October 4: Banking major State Bank of India intends to roll out 4,000 Automated Teller Machines to cater to the needs of visually challenged people in the country. This target is expected to be achieved in the next two years, Rakesh Puri, General Manager, SBI, told Business Line here. SBI on Thursday launched its first ever 'Talking ATM' that would allow visually and physically challenged people to access banking facilities at the machine, without having to visit the branches. This SBI Talking ATM, which was inaugurated by Puri, is located at the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus in the Capital. NCR Corporation has supplied this machine to SBI as part of its existing contract with the SBI. This ATM has been built under 'access for all' standards, said Nagesh Nayak, Professional Services Practice Manager, NCR. SBI is the second bank after Union Bank of India to install an ATM that catered to physically and visually challenged people. Other public sector banks are also taking steps to set up similar machines, but are mainly in pilot and testing stages. Puri said the ATM installed at JNU campus will cater to all including the visually challenged. The ATM will have special features like audio guidance, text-to-speech conversion solution etc. Biztech2.com reports: Supporting RBI's objective of providing financial accessibility to every citizen in India irrespective of his or her disability, NCR Corporation, the ATM service provider, will transform over 2,500 State Bank of India (SBI) ATMs to Voice-Guided ATMs -- which not only allows access to visually impaired people but also people with physical disabilities through ramps for wheel chair access. SBIs first real ATM for the visually impaired was showcased at Antarchakshu, a sensitisation workshop, organised by Xavier's Research Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC) at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi. NCR's Talking ATMs are incorporated with unique software and hardware features which ensure that a person with a disability can operate the machine on his own, while maintaining the safety of the transaction. These ATM machines are designed as per Access for All (AFA) standards and comprises of accessible key-pads, voice-guidance technology, Braille stickers and multi-lingual capability. Apart from reading aloud screen messages, the machine also provides complete orientation making it easy for the customer to use the machine. An important security feature of this ATM is that it provides the person an option to blank out the screen as a safety mechanism to avoid shoulder surfing by any bystander trying to access customer data during the transaction. Nagesh Nayak, Professional Services Practice Manager, NCR said, "We are proud to partner with SBI which is India's largest banking and financial services company to upgrade their ATMs for the disabled. As a concerned corporate, NCR is constantly reinventing innovation for the Indian market place and this specialised ATM is a clear reflection of it. Indian banks and financial institutions are quickly realising the need to adopt self-service technologies to include the millions of differently-abled people into the financial stream and NCR is committed to helping these institutions by providing technologies that are conceptualised, created, and manufactured in India." The NCR Talking ATM uses a text-to-speech engine which allows voicing-out the text on the screen in multiple languages for consumer convenience. Instead to issuing Special Cards for the customers with disabilities since it can become difficult to maintain track of whether the correct card has been issued, SBI has chosen to make its existing ATM network, AFA compliant by simply customising their existing ATM software stack and upgrading the hardware configuration of its ATM fleet. India has one of the largest visually impaired populations in the world and hence the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) through its circulars in 2008 and 2009 stated that all banking services including ATM cards need to be offered to customers with disabilities without any discrimination. At the Antarchasku event, Dr. Sam Taraporevala, Director of XRCVC said, "For the XRCVC it is a very proud moment to witness the roll out of a large number of SBI ATMs. Antarchakshu at JNU New Delhi, has the privilege of hosting one such ATM. The event will go a long way at creating the necessary awareness and sensitisation so necessary to promote financial, educational and employment opportunities." Re: [AI] what is meant by Virtual PC?
Hi sir, it is true that you can also make a dual boot system. But When it comes to the dual boot of linux and windows, the situation becomes a byt trublesum. That's why virtual machines are used. Additionally, today's virtualisation softwares can provide you to make more than one machines. They also make virtual machine's files in a common format so it is very much possible to use one virtual machine in other pc in which a software is install. For example I installed windows7 in my pc. After installing vm ware player or any virtualisation software, I installed linux/ ubuntu in the virtual machine. The software will creat a new file this will be of same hard drive size which was alotted by me to that virtual machine earlier. And if I want to use my machine in some other person's pc then I just need to take that file along with me in any of the removable media and I will just brows the file which is contained by my media and I can use that virtual machine in other person's pc as well. They also provide a lot of advantages related to networking. So dual boot is not the substitute for virtualisation. These are primerily used by software ingeneers for testing varius softwares without impacting their origenal operating system or pc. After installing this software, you can start it by clicking on the desktop shortcut. When you will run it first time, it will ask to alocate some of your existing system hardware resources like ram, hard disk space, processor etc to make a new virtual machine. After making a virtual machine or pc, you can install any operating system like windows xp, 7, 8, linux/ ubuntu in that new virtual machine which is created recently. Basically it is used when you want to try out a new operating system without impacting your origeenal operating system. But practically it needs a decent amount of hardware configgeration. [AI] Flexible Web
Dear friends, as you are well aware that some 24 houres ago, I have posted some useful information regarding jaws 14 beta 2, In which I said that freedomscientific is about to release jaws 14 beta 2 with in the metter of day or two. Now you can download and enjoy it. Here is some useful information below Flexible Web Frequently, you will encounter Web pages that contain a lot of excess content which can make it difficult to locate the actual content you want, or interupts the flow when reading. For instance, many sites contain Google ad frames. These can be troublesome for JAWS users as they disrupt the reading order of surrounding content. Flexible Web enables you to take more control of Web pages by allowing you to quickly find the content you are looking for, as well as hide content that interrupts the reading experience. You can hide sections of content, such as Google ad frames or other types of unnecessary content, for a smoother reading experience. In addition, you could have JAWS begin reading at a level one heading, or ARIA main region, as these may contain the most interesting content. To use Flexible Web, open a Web page you want to customize in Internet Explorer or Firefox. Then, move the Virtual PC Cursor to the page element you want to hide, or from where you want to start reading when the page first loads. Activate the Flexible Web wizard by pressing the layered keystroke INSERT+SPACEBAR, X. Alternatively, press INSERT+F2 to open the Run JAWS Manager dialog box, then choose Flexible Web. Through several easy-to-follow steps, The Flexible Web wizard that opens provides you with two options: hide or start reading at the selected element. The wizard then guides you through the process of creating a temporary customization by giving you various choices about the selected element and how you want to hide it or from where exactly to start reading. Once the customization has been made, it is immediately applied to the page. For instance, if you choose to hide all frames containing advertisements, you will not see any advertisements when navigating the page after making this temporary customization. If you are not happy with how a customization is working, you can open the Flexible Web wizard to undo the last customization you made. When you return to the page, you can choose a different element or the same one, then reactivate the Flexible Web wizard to retry the customization again perhaps with different criteria. For example, in the case of hiding those advertisement frames mentioned earlier, you probably want to hide all of them, not just the first one on the page. The wizard will provide you with choices about whether to hide just the first one or all of them. You can create as many customizations for a page as you want. Once you have created one or more customizations, you can save them as a rule, which is applied every time you load the particular page or site. To indicate that a rule has been applied to a page, JAWS plays a sound after the page loads. Rules can be applied to the current Web page, entire Web site, or globally for all Web sites. Otherwise, customizations are only temporary and are lost as soon as you navigate away from the current Web page or close the browser. If you have made temporary customizations and you attempt to navigate to another page or close the browser, a dialog box opens asking if you want to save your customizations as a rule. To learn more about using Flexible Web, refer to the Flexible Web help topic in the JAWS online help (f1). In addition, the Freedom Scientific Training department will be demonstrating all of the capabilities of this exciting new feature in a free 1-hour webinar on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at noon. To register, go to the Free Webinars from Freedom Scientific page and choose the Register for free New in JAWS 14 - Part Two Webinar, October 24, 2012 button. Shona: I'm smiling as I write this. Nuance Talks and Eloquence synthesiser on a Smartphone with a physical keypad is by far the most accessible phone for some blind folks. One way or the other, we all are correct because our accessibility needs are more or less varied within ourselves.
