 Hello,
I recently bought Samsung galaxy S3 android phone. You will know

I chose to buy this instead of iPhone 5 because first in India
 iPhone
 5
 will
arrive only in November or December and secondly the new Maps
 application
 is
not likely to work in India until further few months on the iPhone.
In addition to this I wanted to test book reading apps on android as
 a
 part
 of my professional work.

With Talkback, eyes free keyboard and few other apps this phone has
 become
accessible. Despite no physical keys it is possible to do everything
 on
 the
phone although several things take much more time as compared to a
 phone
with full keypad. The voice recognition feature is much improved and
 I
 am
eagerly waiting for its Jelly bean update after which it will be
 possible
 to
do more with voice. Even now I am able to search contacts and send
 sms
 with
 the voice recognition app.

This phone is a delight for a person with low vision. The fantastic
 big
screen with the option of increasing the font size to large or huge
 makes
the screen readable. The digital magnifying apps are also wonderful.
 They
convert this device into a good reading tool giving serious
 competition
 to
the digital magnifiers which alone sell for 20 K and beyond. I won't
recommend this to a totally blind person yet. It will be an
 unnecessary
extra expenditure on a big screen.

Time permitting I will write more on this.

Not straight forward but doable.
I first took backup of Nokia contacts on the memory card. Then copied all
vCard files on the memory card of the android phone.
Opened contacts in Android, go to options and select import/export and then
select import from sd card.

Hi All,

An NGO ' DIvya Jyothi Charitable trust for Blind' is participating in
a competition by name 'Spark the Rise' conducted by the Mahindra
group. Here the participants
require to submit a project they want to work on and the Public voting
is used to choose a winner.

The project:

The NGO ias planning to start a Braille Transcription centre where
they can print Braille books inlarge scale. This is very rarely
available outside and if its available, poeple charge hefty prices
which most cant afford. The organisation aims at creating a huge
library(Now existing on a small scale) for itself where any needy
person can borrow books free of cost. This requires the to buy a
machine called 'Braille Embozer' and they also need to employ a
technician to operate it. There are various other challanges they face
in the process, which they are willing to face with a dream to fulfill
the wish of every blind person aspiring to gain knowledge. Please
visit the site http://www.sparktherise.com/projects-listing.php?catid=1
and select 'Proposal of Braille Transcription Center' submitted by
'Divya Jyothi Charitable trust for Visually Challanged' for more
details about their project

YOUR ROLE IN THIS:

As this competition is dependent on Public voting, the more votes they
gain from public, more are their chances of winng. Its same as in
today's reality shows.. The winners of this contest will be given a
prize money which they will use towards their project. There are
various stages in voting, with the projects with least votes being
filtered at every stage. The ones which can make it to the last rounds
will gain something very benificial for pursuing their dream. So its
your POWER TO VOTE which is going to create thier future.

TO VOTE:

The BEST PART of this competition is a very user friendly voting. You
can either give a missed call or send a mesage.
Please give a MISSED CALL on the number: +912261850716(Mobile numbers

Step 11: Please follow steps 2, 3 AND 4. YOUR VOTING IS COMPLETE AND

 Dear Ketan and others,
This may add to your disappointment.
Hindi TTS is not available for Android yet which means Hindi reading or
writing is not possible for the blind.
The business cards from NOKIA sent to android are generally not supported
 and vice versa.

I am adding to the list so that you take the informed decision.smile

 Dear Ketan and others,
This may add to your disappointment.
Hindi TTS is not available for Android yet which means Hindi reading or
writing is not possible for the blind.
The business cards from NOKIA sent to android are generally not
 supported
 and vice versa.

I am adding to the list so that you take the informed decision.smile

This is out of scope of this list.

I am constraint to find many issues being dragged and mails which could be
written directly rather than cluttering the list.

Presently, the traffic is above normal and collectively, we should bring it
down to reasonable levels.

I seek support from one and all.
This thread stands close for traffic.

Dear friends,
I am planning to search for a life partner. so, as the subject line suggests,
please give your opinions on the desired qualities of a bride to be a good life
partner for a blind person in general. I understand that searching a lifemate
for a VI is not an easy task. at the same time, our special needs and
requirements are more compared to those of sighted people.

I request all of you to throw light on the matter. though the desired qualities
differ from person to person, I request you to give general requirements for
the special challenges of a VI person. while giving your opinion, you may
consider the fact that I am a partially blind person working as teacher in a
university or college.

thanks in advance,
Umesha
