Dear Friends, Two key privacy and security measures are agreed by the Indian Banks Association (IBA) sub-committee on talking ATM. This has helped us in convincing banks on their security concerns on talking ATM and these two things are simple but very effective so we should fully support them rather than expecting changes as voice through external speakers, etc. 1. Use of headphone to enable talking mode. The ATM is a regular ATM which can be used by both sighted as well as blind persons. So ATM will only talk when a standard 3.5 mm headphone connector is inserted into the audio jack. After completion of one transaction ATM will come out of talking mode and if you wish to go for second transaction then please remove and re-insert headphone plug. Important to note here is that mobile handsfree may or may not work on ATM audio circuit. The technical reason is mobile handsfree connector has four electrical connections, the tip, a first ring, a second ring, and the sleeve. (TRRS - Tip, Ring, Ring, and Sleeve). But any standard computer headphone or earphone with three electrical connections, the tip, the ring, and the sleeve (TRS - Tip, Ring, and Sleeve) will surely work. ATMs machines are globally manufactured and so it’s not possible to change audio circuitry which is suitable for TRS connector to support TRRS connector. 2. An option to hide or blank out ATM display screens is another key point. In the beginning this choice is given. So no one who may be overlooking will come to know what exactly you are doing as sighted will see only a blank bank image screen having no text. In case of fast operation of ATM that means once you insert headphone and then insert ATM card ATM will by default go into hidden screens and English language mode. In case of regular operation in talking mode first you need to go through have 4-5 offline options such as welcome message, language choice, hide or display screen option, skip or listen to ATM orientation and repeat orientation or move forward to next step. The next step is insert your card. Once you insert card and then PIN you go into the online mode of ATM. I request all my friends who wish to do ATM transaction with talking mode please always carry a headphone or earphone with you. I am sure our friends will fully support these two privacy and security measures available on a talking ATM. In case any ATM which is producing sound from external speaker then that is a partial voice guidance not at all a talking ATM for the blind. I already explained this point in one of my old post giving difference between public voice guidance and talking ATM for the blind. Computer formatting and repair of devices is beyond the scope of this program. Note that the Helpline cannot offer basic or beginner training on computers under this program. Users can approach the helpline only for learning to use specific features of an application or for finding solutions to computing tasks that they may have to perform in their workplace. We all are aware that Skype is a popular voice over IP and instant messaging application. As well as enabling free internet voice calls from computer to computer, Skype also allows you to purchase credit, which you can use to call landline and mobile telephones. SuperNova provides access to most features and functionality of Skype including menus, dialog boxes and contact lists. For best results we recommend you run SuperNova Version 13. Configuration tips Accessibility settings Skype includes two settings that improve accessibility for users of a keyboard and A screen reader. You should ensure Extended Keyboard Navigation and Screen Reader Mode are turned on in Skype. To do this: 1. Run Skype. 2. Press ALT + T. The Tools menu opens. 3. DOWN ARROW to Accessibility and RIGHT ARROW. Asub-menu opens. The sub-menu contains the items Extended Keyboard Navigation and Screen Reader Mode. 4. If an item is unchecked then press ENTER. Skype selects the item and closes the menu. 5. Repeat the steps until both items are checked. Creating keyboard commands Skype provides a number of commands to which you can assign hot keys. To do this: 1. Run Skype. 2. Press ALT + T. The Tools menu opens. 3. DOWN ARROW to Options and press ENTER. The Options dialog box opens. This is a dialog box with categories listed on the left side and related settings on the right side. 4. DOWN ARROW to the Hot Keys category. This is the last category in the list. You can also jump to this category by pressing END. 5. TAB to the list of commands and press SPACEBAR to check the items you want to use. Items include Answer call, Answer video call and Hang up. Some items have a default hot key assigned and other items have no hot key assigned. 6. If you want to change a hot key or assign a hot key to an item, select the item and TAB to the Change selected shortcut button and press SPACEBAR. The Set hot key... dialog box opens. Use the controls in this dialog box to select the hot key combination you want to assign to the command and then TAB to the OK button and press SPACEBAR. 7. Repeat the steps for each command you want to assign a hot key to and then TAB to the Save button and press SPACEBAR. Skype saves the changes and closes the dialog box.
