New Nandanvan, Nagpur

Time: 9:30A.M to 5:30P.M.

Blind Graduates Forum of India, BGFI, Nagpur Chapter is happy to announce that
it is bringing the Reading Without Seeing workshop to Nagpur.
About Reading Without Seeing
The Reading Without Seeing workshop is an awareness and basic training in to
accessible technologies for the blind being run as part of a nationwide program
under the DFI. It is being conducted at Nagpur by the XRCVC, Mumbai and TTI,
Pune. It aims at explaining how with the aid of special assistive technologies
the totally blind and low vision persons can effectively participate in the
educational professional and recreational domains.
Showcased at the workshop will be special applications on computers such as
screen readers which speak out the text on the screen and magnification
software which increase font and improve contrast for the benefit of low vision
users. In addition, users will see how standard text can be scanned and read
out with the help of OCR aided systems. The participants would also experience
total accessibility and empowerment through the demonstration of specialised
software of their cell phones.
The concept of reading without seeing takes on an altogether new dimension
through voice and touch with audio as well as tactile stimuli replacing sight.
Participants would be demonstrated portable devices be they book readers or day
to day assistive tools such as talking weighing scales, colour recognisers,
blood pressure monitors etc. The workshop which runs for the entire day would
adopt an end to end approach focusing on the problem, the need and the
solutions. It balances the basic theoretical inputs with practical hands on
experience and thus provides the potential users with a comprehensive
understanding of the range of technologies, choices and possibilities.
The workshop would be inaugurated by noted peditrician Dr. Sunil Bajaj, and
internationally renoned blind swimmer Kanchanmala Pande would be the guest of
Honor.

Re: [AI] how to add contacts in skype

2013-02-05 Thread Kotian, H P
Dear Shona

It is a very long time since I gave up Skype. I use GW Connect instead. It is a
much better interface as it is designed for us by a leading access technology
developer.

I do recall, you have to use the jaws cursor. Move your jaws cursor and click
on the name you want to select

There after things should be ok. Can't remember more I am afraid.

[AI] FW: [SayEverything] A Day of A Deaf Blind Person

2013-02-05 Thread Asudani, Rajesh
d the Braille system. Since deafblind children require full
attention while studying, she teaches one student at a time.

Ruby also teaches her students how to use a computer. During her computer
lessons, she and her students use a refreshable Braille display connected to
the computer. This allows them to open programs, create documents, and even
surf the Internet.

Ruby teaches her students from morning until noontime. At around 12:00 pm she
finishes her last lesson and prepares to have lunch. Normally, she has lunch
with her colleagues at the school's canteen.

Continuing the Day
At the second half of the day, Ruby provides information, counseling, and
advice to families and friends of deafblind persons. She answers any questions
and addresses the problems they face regarding their deafblind family members
or friends. She also gives short lectures on how to interact and communicate
with deafblind individuals.

Ruby uses a special communication device that enables her to talk to sighted
and hearing individuals. This device consists of two components. The first
component has a screen and a keyboard. This is used by the person Ruby would
talk to. The person types the question or concern using this component.

The second component has a Braille display and a keyboard. Using the Braille
display, Ruby reads the question or concern of the person she is talking to.
She then enters her response using the keyboard of the second component. The
response will then be seen by the person in the first component's screen.

Similar to other users of the Braille system, Ruby reads relatively slower
compared to sighted individuals. In spite of this, everyone understands the
situation and truly appreciates the advice and information Ruby provides.

In addition to face to face conversations, Ruby can also talk to people over
the phone. She does this through a TDD or a telephone device for the deaf. This
device lets her talk to other deaf and deafblind people as well as sighted and
hearing persons.

Ruby enjoys her work as it lets her meet new people and make a lot of friends.
After a busy day at work, she prepares to go home. She uses the same devices to
safely navigate through the streets on her way to her apartment.

At Home, Cooking Dinner
Ruby enters her apartment and decides what to cook for dinner. She picks out a
recipe from her Braille cookbook and prepares the ingredients. To make sure
that her food is cooked properly, she uses her Braille timer. Ruby also uses
protective hand covering to prevent her from burns caused by very hot surfaces.
Despite of using technology, she still needed to have years of practice before
she was able to cook food properly.

Evening Activities, Going to Bed
After dinner, Ruby checks her email using her computer and Braille display. She
reads her new email messages, replies to them, and sends her own messages, all
through her Braille display.

Since there is still an hour before her bedtime, Ruby decides to take her
portable Braille device and read a chapter or two from the book she is
currently reading. This is a small stand-alone Braille device used to access
text files copied to it from the computer. In her room, Ruby reads the book via
her portable Braille device before going to bed.

The above article seems to be interesting and useful to those who wish to learn
about how a deaf+blind person uses technology with full accessibility in
personal and professional life.

Regards,

Amit Bhatt

2013-02-05 Thread Alok Kaushik

Hi Debasish,
Here are the adhoc activities and the time spent.

1. Change to extract and display recruiter's email id in resumes listing
under super user login .

0.5 person days
2. Analyzing and testing reported issue related to resume deletion by super
user.

0.25 person days
3. Removing IP address access control for admin and recruiter logins if
there are no IP addresses added in the database.

1 person day
4. interchange the contents of recruiter and recruiter2 folders and change
associated header and post-login links to make the second level of
authentication as discussed. This was fully functional earlier except that
/recruiter2 was to be used in /recruiter in the URLS

0.25 person days
5. We had an additional designation level 'Fresher' on employees subbdomain,
which was not present on jobs subdomain. I had to add it and also change the
data insertion logic for it to make resume migration functional.

0.5 person days

Here is the part of the maintenance agreement that should clarify the
charging rate.

I.CHARGES & BILLING

1.. Billing will be done at the rate of Rs. 750 per person hour for the
purchased capacity.
2.. If any additional time is required beyond the purchased capacity, Mr.
Alok Kaushik will do the needful depending upon the availability of time and
resources.
3.. Any additional time spent beyond the purchased capacity will be
charged at 1.25 times of the basic rate.

So the rate in the current scenario is Rs. 750*1.25.

Thanks.

Hats off to that girl forstudying these issues in so much

Re: [AI] A seminar on RTI and Domestic Violence for VI women

2013-02-05 Thread avinash shahi
This initiative is certainly awakening.
but, why only women can attend? this is really incomprehensible.
Both genders should be given equal platform to understand each other
concerns and become sensitized. Afterall, in majority of
cases,domestic violence involves both genders.
Anyway, kudos to the organisers for organising such rare event.

Re: [AI] regarding dropbox

2013-02-05 Thread jerinjose84

Dear friend,

You can see the folder 'Public' inside the dropbox once you have installed and
signed in. You can copy the file to be uploaded, and paste it in the public
folder using the standard commands. Then take the context menu of the uploaded
file in the public folder. Activate the 'Copy the public link' under the
'Dropbox' sub menu. Now the link has been copied to your clip board. Share the
copied link to others, thats it. HTH.

With best regards,
