I would not suggest using a non-standard compiler, especially something
like Turbo C++ or Bloodshed. These kind of badly written software is the
reason we do not have many quality programmers in our country. If you
really want to do serious stuff, you should use a standard compiler such as
GCC. Assuming that you use Windows, GCC is available as Min GW. The website
is here http://mingw.org/

Please note that Min GW has commandline and GUI uilities but doesn't come
with a text editor. For editing your code, you can use any plaintext editor
that works with your screen-reader of choice.

Charudatta Jadhav, Head of Innovation Strategy, CTO Enable Team has been 
honoured with the 'Godfrey Phillips Bravery Awards in the category : 'Mind of 
Steel' for his career achievements.  At a glittering ceremony held in Hotel 
Trident, Mumbai, on 02 April, Charudatta received the award. The Godfrey 
Phillips Bravery Awards were instituted in 1990 to ensure that no act of 
bravery by a citizen went unsung or overlooked. Over the past two decades, the 
Bravery Awards have honoured over 1200 brave hearts. This year 12 individuals 
have received this prestigious award from the states of Maharashtra, Goa, 
Karnataka and Kerala.

Charudatta Jadhav has represented India on various international chess 
championships. He has developed Talk 64, first-of-its-kind chess training and 
gaming software for the blind to improve their gaming skills. He has also 
developed an online digital library and training portal for chess. Overcoming 
his visual challenge, in March 1992, Jadhav successfully scaled the 17,220 feet 
high peak Shitidhar. He received the National Award for Best Disabled Employee, 
2006 from the former President of India, Dr A.P.J Abdul Kalam.
Since inception, the Godfrey Phillips Bravery award has grown to encompass 20 
Indian states.  The zonal awards will be followed by the National Awards, which 
will take place in Delhi.

I Tried it but its not saying error lines and not reading the codes

I have two airconditioners at my place. both are LG. one of them is eight 
years old and is still working fine. the after sale service of LG is better 
than most of other firms. That is why, I plan to install the third AC from 
LG.
However, the choice may differ from person to person. We decide on account 
of our prior experiences and from the sources we have.
Most of good companies can be depended upon. But voltas has bad memories for 
me.

I have used the kindle for PC for reading books on amazon. Although
accessibility was not my concern but I converted these books to different
format after I downloaded it using open source software calibre which is an
ebook library manager..

Kindle for PC is still not accessible for indian users as its accessibility
plugin is not available for India.

Press Statement

In response to the Writ Petition filed by Sambhavana Organization
demanding the stay on the proposed four year undergraduate Program
(FYUP) in Delhi University, today (May 8th) the honourable High Court
directed the Respondent to file a report within a week explaining how
the rights of visually challenged students to get equitable quality
inclusive education will be protected. The Petition filed by the
organization claims that the design of the proposed FYUP is
discriminatory as it fails to take due considerations of specific
needs of persons with disabilities. It objects proposed implementation
of FYUP due to a number of reasons—the imposition of compulsory
Foundation courses on Mathematics and Sciences without making adequate
prior arrangement to teach these disciplines to students with visual
disabilities, and the lack of reading materials in accessible formats
and the absence of any serious attempt on the part of the University
to address this issue in the context of hasty syllabi formulations and
newly emerging courses.
While keenly awaiting the University’s response on its aforementioned
objections, Sambhavana reiterates that addressing crucial issues
pertaining to infrastructural and academic accessibility essentially
requires adequate time and proper consultations with people with
disabilities themselves. One wonders whether DU will immediately
initiate the process for making science labs accessible for people
with vision/physical disabilities; to orient teachers to teach science
and maths to blind students; and to arrange an be familiar with
devices and assistive technology required to enable disabled students
to study proposed foundation courses. In fact, once DU enters in this
process, it would realize that these problems are central to most of
the courses that without ensuring availability of accessible reading
material to disabled students, it has been hastily drawing and
implementing new schemes; and that the problem of two above-referred
foundation courses are exemplarily important as they are completely
new for vision impaired students. Otherwise, educational institutions
in India have never given the priority to disability related issues in
overall planning and implementation of various schemes and programmes
that otherwise morally and legally they deserve; and therefore the end
result has been exclusion and discrimination in the name of exumption.
However, disabled people are no longer prepared to tolerate this
indifference and tokenism. We are extremely excited to find proactive
attitude of the court which has asked Delhi University to file a
report in this regard before the implementation of FYUP.
Sambhavana believes that any token response from the University would
only contribute to the exclusionary nature of the FYUP and the
University’s continuing insensitivity towards its disabled students.
However, the Organization has resolved to fight any such
discrimination. The matter is listed for next hearing on coming
Wednesday (May 15th 2013).

some time I wanted to put a query on AI that whether there any AC.
even partially accessible for blind people?
Generally, we manage temperature through remote without knowing the
actual temperature point and dependent on sighted assistance.
Wish to know is there any machine which speaks the position of
temperature while setting it, Or, any other sort of speach assistance?

clearing ibps interview does not mean that all the people will be
given job in banks. Only those people who have got good percentage  of
marks and are in merit list will be given preference in getting
appointment letter from respective banks.
so keep the finger across because if incase anyone rejects the offer
he will not be given second letter of appointment from other banks and
you may get chance.

PORT JEFFERSON, N.Y. (AP) — With the beaming smiles of newlyweds, Paul
Forziano and Hava Samuels hold hands, exchange adoring glances and
complete each other's sentences. Their first wedding dance, he
recalls, was to the song "Unchained ..." ''Melody," she chimes in.

They spend their days together in the performing arts education center
where they met. But every night, they must part ways. Forziano goes to
his group home. His wife goes to hers.

The mentally disabled couple is not allowed to share a bedroom by the
state-sanctioned nonprofits that run the group homes — a practice the
newlyweds and their parents are now challenging in a federal civil
rights lawsuit.

"We're very sad when we leave each other," Forziano says. "I want to
live with my wife, because I love her."

The couple had been considering marriage for three years before tying
the knot last month, and they contend in their lawsuit that they were
refused permission from their respective group homes to live together
as husband and wife. The couple's parents, also plaintiffs in the
lawsuit, said they have been seeking a solution since 2010.

"It's not something we wanted to do, it's something we had to do,"
said Bonnie Samuels, the mother of the bride.

The lawsuit contends Forziano's facility refused because people
requiring the services of a group home are by definition incapable of
living as married people, and it says Samuels' home refused because it
believes she doesn't have the mental capacity to consent to sex.

Legal experts are watching the case closely as a test of the Americans
With Disabilities Act, which says, in part, that "a public entity
shall make reasonable modifications in policies, practices, or
procedures ... to avoid discrimination on the basis of disability."
The group homes are licensed as nonprofits by the state and receive
Medicaid funding on behalf of their clients.

"This is a case that is moving into uncharted territory," says George
Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley. "If a state
licenses the couple to be married, they are afforded all of the
protections and privileges of marriage. The most fundamental right is
to be able to live together as a married couple."

The couple's attorney, Martin Coleman, says he has not come across any
similar court cases. "What the group homes are saying is that for this
class of people, you shouldn't be married. ... What point of
intellectual disability is too low for someone to be married?"

Sara Gelser, an Oregon state legislator and member of the National
Council on Disability board of directors, says Americans have
increasingly come to recognize the rights of the disabled to choose to
live their own lives, and marriage and sex is part of that.

She says the couple's sex life is nobody's business.

"No one has a right to tell an adult what they can do," Gelser says.
"Sex is a healthy and full part of the human experience. I know it
makes some people uncomfortable to think people with intellectual
disabilities are engaging in sexual relations, but I don't understand
that."

A spokeswoman for the Catholic Health Systems, which runs the
Maryhaven Center of Hope, has declined to comment, citing pending
litigation. Maryhaven has 2,000 clients, ranging in age from 5 to 80,
in facilities across Long Island. The facility in Manorville where
Samuels lives is for women only.

David Arntsen, attorney for the Independent Group Home Living program
in Manorville, where Forziano lives, says that it doesn't have
facilities for married residents and that there is no specific legal
requirement forcing the home to house them. The program's residences
have between three and 12 men and women; the home where Forziano lives
is coed, according to his attorney.

The lawsuit cites a letter from the director of program services at
Independent Group Home Living, saying its homes "are not staffed or
designed to house and supervise married couples or assist married
couples with the dynamics of their relationships, sexual or
otherwise."

Also named in the lawsuit is the state Office of Persons With
Developmental Disabilities, which the couple claims sided with the
agencies in refusing to accommodate their wishes and has not done
enough to find a solution. The office has declined to comment on the
lawsuit.

Experts say it is difficult to estimate how many mentally disabled
people are married, since states ask no questions about a person's
mental capacity on marriage licenses.

Tiffany Portzer, a spokeswoman for the state developmental
disabilities office, says the agency does not keep data on the marital
status of its clients. "I can tell you that we know it's a small
minority of everyone in a group home, she says.

The couple's parents say they have reached out to other
state-certified group homes to see if they had space. They were told
that although other facilities welcome married couples, nothing was

  Can someone please provide accurate statistics on unemployment rate among
Indian disabled population? We always say, 66% or 50 million people are not
emploid but I don't find sources for those numbers. Do we have any reports?

Great Vivek, for your excellent suggestions and research. I completely
agree with you. just to add, most branded AC's come with duel climate
control. This means, they turn off whenever the temperature falls down  or
drops  below set temperature. so  this should not be a problem. also,
almost all split AC's come with remote which is not accessible. So one
should need help setting temperature, turn on and off swing and so on.
Most branded AC's are also equipped with low power consumption mode.

Some of the main criterion for selecting air conditioner are:

  1.  Size of the room. Typically you can multiply the length and breath of
the room in feet and divide by 100 to arrive at the desired tonnage of the
AC. For e.g. A room having a dimension of 12 feet x 13 feet, AC with 1.5 ton
capacity is good enough (12 x 13 /100 = 1.56).
  2.  Now-a-days, AC comes with wide variety of star ratings. Higher the
star rating, more efficient is the AC i.e. less power consumption but at the
same time, higher star rating means higher price tag. In order to arrive at
a break even value one needs to undertake a calculation. You can Google
around for the said calculation
  3.  Before going to shops it is better to visit online websites for
finalising the specifications and desired features in the AC. Often it has
been seen that the salesman are not willing to indicate various features and
often tends to pass on the leaflet for an individual to study. At times they
are also not aware of the specifications. Checking online helps one to get a
feel of the cost of the AC and the specs available. This info helps in
bargaining and demanding a particular model. Typically salesman will tell
you that a particular model is not good because of n number of reasons while
the fact remains that the said model is not available with him. So move
around to multiple shops before finalising the AC. Most of the shops are now
resellers only and all the service is being provided by individual company
only so go for vendor who is offering lowest price for the short listed
model.
  4.  In case budget permits, it is better to go for ACs with remote.
  5.  Now-a-days, ACs do come with a power mode. In this mode one can define
the amount of power consumption that can be consumed by AC so as to keep a
check on the electricity  bill and avoid a shock at month end.
  6.  Another good feature available is sleep mode. In this mode the
temperature control of AC is increased gradually in the night. It has been
observed that due to drop in external temperature the efficiency of AC
improves and results in chilling effect towards morning. Often this results
in body pains in the morning.
  7.  Please do use a power stabiliser in case your locality experiences
voltage fluctuations. Stabiliser is typically available for Rs. 3000 and is
good for compressor health.
  8.  Remember to clean the filter located in the front of AC for better
cooling experience.
  9.  All the companies mentioned are standard companies and may be selected
based on individual budget and features.
  10. The most expensive part of AC is its compressor so check the duration
of its warranty.

Delhi HC issues notice to DU over four-year undergraduate programme


The Delhi High Court Wednesday issued notice to Delhi University on a
public interest litigation (PIL) challenging its proposed four-year
undergraduate programme with multiple degrees in its present form.

A division bench of Chief Justice D. Murugesan and Justice Jayant Nath
sought a response from the university by May 15.

The proposed course, if introduced in present form, will cause
"irreparable loss" to students with impaired vision, advocate Pankaj
Sinha, appearing for the petitioner NGO Sambhavana, told the court.

Delhi University is to implement the four-year undergraduate programme
from its next academic session in July this year.

Sambhavana, which works for the welfare of disabled students, said:
"If the four-year undergraduate programme with multiple degree is
introduced in present form, the students with vision impairment will
suffer irreparable loss as they shall not be able to participate in
the mainstream education system."

"Students with visual impairment are presently exempted from studying
science and maths after Class 8 in some cases and after Class 10 in
most of the cases," the NGO pointed out.

"In case the existing approved programme is implemented, such students
shall not be able to meet the requirements of the foundation course in
the first year of the four-year undergraduate programme which contains
a bouquet of 11 courses, including Building Mathematical Ability and
Science and Life as mandatory," the petition said.

It asked the court to direct Delhi University to introduce a "bridge
course programme" for maths and science for students with vision
impairment so they could also be given a level-playing field to pursue
the foundation course as prescribed in the first year.

The petition said: "A large number of students with vision impairment
seek admission in Delhi University every year. They cannot be deprived
of studying the foundation course on an equal basis with other
students. Therefore, a provision of the bridge course should be
followed by the foundation course in second year of the said
programme."

"The four-year undergraduate programme with multiple degree does not
take into consideration the concern of the students with vision
impairment, therefore, the same is arbitrary and illegal, hence
discriminatory," it said.

As you might be aware that few days ago I have shared one important
news about the teerific success of one our member Mr. Karan singhania
who has achieved miraculous performance  in the  cat exam held in the
year 2012 in which  Percentile rankings
are provided for each individual section as well as for the overall
exam score in which he  has
scored 93.47% of marks.

as I also  mentioned in that mail he has also  scored 90% in the exam
SNAP 2012.  in which The final merit
score is based only on SNAP percentile. Symbiosis National Aptitude
(SNAP) Test is a common and mandatory written test for the admission
to all the Post-Graduate Programmes of Symbiosis International
University.

not only this, it  was his first successful entry for the professional
course In addition, he had undergone  the selection process of the
several top iims  Institute to qualify for
the admission and here is the wonderful news which is surely a mark of
pride, honor and brilliant outcome for his stint hardwork and stonch
devotion for his upcoming dreams. After having gone through the
several interviews in front of the top most iims coleges, he had
received the call letters from these coleges equiped with  highly
industrialised  courses, like indian institute of management
colege, calcutta, IIM colege  of Bangalore, IIM colege of Ahmedabad
and IIM colege of Khozikode. He has also been selected in the
interview process held for the admision in symbiosis institute of
management studies, Pune.  I think he may be diciding upon to join IIM
colege of Ahmedabad.  so please join your hands in congratulating him

bright academic success.

Many countries throughout the world have, in recent years, adopted policies 
aiming to promote the rights of people with disabilities to full and equal 
participation in society. This has often been in response to the ILO Convention 
No. 159 concerning Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment of Disabled Persons 
(1983) policy on employment opportunities for people with  disabilities is 
frequently supported by legislation and implementation strategies as essential 
tools to promote their integration and social inclusion.
The current unemployment rate in India is a 4-5%; however it is a staggering 
66% in case of persons with disabilities, for various reasons. Lack of 
education, skill deficit are only a few of the many factors, but it is the 
attitudinal factors of employers, co-workers and the society at large that can 
potentially contribute to addressing this issue.
The governmental legislations on 3% reservations for persons with disabilities 
(PWDs) in government jobs and public sector undertakings is encouraging, but 
the fact remains how many persons with disabilities can the government actually 
absorb even at their fullest hiring potential. To put in simple terms, what 
percentage of our non-disabled employable population is actually working with 
the government and public sector enterprises?.
It is imperative that even persons with disabilities look forward to 
opportunities in the organised private sector; across functions and industry.
The silver lining is that a number of companies in India; small, medium or 
large have realised the potential of persons with Disabilities (PWDs), 
acknowledged their contribution and many PWDs playing lead roles in the 
organisations of their employment. Many employers have proactively come forward 
to hire persons with disabilities (PWDs) and have articulated diversity and 
inclusion as part of their Human Resource Policy and thereby contributing 
immensely to addressing this huge national level challenge; the unemployment of 
persons with disability, more so acknowledging and ensuring an equal 
opportunity to a person with disability, which is his right.

The timing of event will be at 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  this has been done to 
keep it flexible for the organisations to accommodate the process of 
recruitment, and back office/documentation they will require to complete as 
part of their hiring processes.

shortlist and hire from among 350 candidates with disabilities with various 
qualifications; post graduates, graduates, undergraduates, graduate engineers 
and diploma engineers etc. for entry level jobs as well as for those with some

Financial Services, Retail and Hospitality.

I tried Turbo C++,it doesn't say error lines and menus.just saying the

Talks on a global treaty to give copyright exemptions for the blind
and print disabled are inching close to fruition at the World
Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), notwithstanding sticky
areas in the draft text. The half-a-decade-long negotiations at the
relevant standing committee at the world body concluded last month,
paving the way for a diplomatic conference in June in Morocco to
fine-tune the law. Deliberations were deadlocked for months on the
question of balancing the need to extend cross-border access to
reading material with the interests of copyright holders. Developed
nations have been lobbying hard for assurances that accessible formats
of books were not already in circulation whenever fresh material is
transferred to recipient states. Developing countries have legitimate
concerns in terms of the practical difficulties that such monitoring —
principally by non-government organisations — would entail. It is
relevant to note here that many countries already have in place
suitable amendments to their domestic copyright laws to address the
special needs segment. It is thus a matter of establishing the
mechanisms for applying the same principle internationally. Though
concerns exist over the potential unauthorised use of copyright
exemptions in the developing world, the rights of creators must be
weighed against the larger interests of equity and justice. The harsh
reality for disabled end-users the world over is that some 95 per cent
of published literature today is beyond their reach.

The refusal by western countries, in particular the United States, to
move forward on the treaty obviously has to do with concerns over the
general lack of protection against piracy in the developing world. But
the message from the WIPO talks in Geneva is also that the advanced
world can’t ignore the needs of the disabled elsewhere for too long.
With disability likely to figure high among global development
priorities post-2015, the availability of accessible information would
prove a key determinant of the educational and employment attainments
of the disabled. Moreover, it does not stand to reason that while the
rights of disabled people for access to the physical environment has
acquired wide currency, access to published information and knowledge
through accessible formats should continue to be denied.
