Re: [AI] Any command to restart the windows?

2014-02-09 Thread Amiyo Biswas

I found this among my old notes and it works:
1. Right click the Desktop and select New /Shortcut.

2. A screen will appear asking you for a Command Line. Here's what you put
in that box:

For Shutdown:
Shutdown -s -t 0

For Restart:
Shutdown -r -t 0

For Log Off:
Shutdown -l -t 0

After you've decided which of the above options to use, click the Next
button and give the shortcut an appropriate name.

Dear Sir,

I could make the shortcut successfully, but the Windows restarts. Can you
guide me with the code to make it shutdown? By the way, you provided a
very good trick to re-start the Windows.

hi,
to achiev this, do the following.
keeping your focus on desktop, go to new submenu by application key,
and choos new shortcut.
type the following in the location of the item dialog box.
shutdown.exe -r -t 00
click next and type a name for the shortcut and hit the finish button.
now, go to the created short cut properties and on the shortcut tab,
assign desired keystroke and you are done.

[AI] Top 10 Web Browser List

2014-02-09 Thread Sakthi TAB
1Google Chrome
Safe, Secure, fast, Reliable, in fact the best browser in the world
2Mozilla Firefox
Firefox rules it should be at the top I've tried chrome but I think
Firefox is more organized and that's how I like it
It give security browsing and speed browsing. It supports all
operating systems like windows, mac etc
3Safari
What? For me, Safari is the best even I use PC. Try it and you can
forcefully say that Safari is the best. Honest.
Safari, which is now avaliable for PC's has great look and optimized
Tabbed browsing which comes with high speed.
Honest pure review and not bias, I have use the latest version of
Safari. I has nice looking design. However, its speed is slow compared
with Google Chrome, CometBird, FireFox, Opera, Internet Explorer and
other fast browses. That would have been ok for me if it had not been
frozen (not responding) ans crashed. So I have to stop using it. Who
else said it is one of the best browsers, though for my experience it
is not true!

4Opera
Fast, safe, functional, fun searching, and mouse gestures make Opera
great browser
lightweight, fast and slick, supporting web standarts - just the best for years.

5Internet Explorer
Internet explorer 9 is super fast, and you don't have to have millions
of windows open, you can drag tabs into other windows. It doesn't
crash as much either.
Internet Explorer has been the pioneer in web browsing for over a
decade. Nearly three quarters of the Internet has been optimized for
this browser, and the simplistic interface is both intuitive and
functional. The UI is simply gorgeous, tabs, shortcuts, favorites, and
history functions are all perfected. The browser is lightning fast, as
well as feature rich. Aside from its obsolete Trident rendering engine
(versus WebKit with Chrome, Safari, and Firefox), Internet Explorer is
superior in every way.

6Maxthon
The best browser honestly. You forget about chrome the very moment you
get addicted to this. Trust me, I don't tell lies when it comes to web
browsers because I have virtually the whole web browsers and non of
them can beat maxthon
Filled with options and features other web browsers do not compare
too. I recommend this browser to have with your others. Give it a try
even on a USB stick.

7Netscape Browser
It is the best browser I ever seen

8UC Browser
the best mobile browser in terms of download speed, graphics, browsing
experience, error freed sign ups, uniqueness, user interface etc.

9YouTube Browser
I can see vivid video and audio using smart phone any time.

10Avant
I love how you can use three rendering engines in one browser without
crashing. Plus, with mouth gestures and the Chrome Web Store--through
the use of WebKit--Avant makes you feel like you're using the top
three browsers in the world at the same time, on the same browser.

Hi Mohib,

Please do let me know how to kill a particular program when system
hangs up. I may be able to bring my focus into the task manager using
shift + escape but unaware about the further steps. Will the screen
reader provide support in task manager? Most often I force to use the
power button to solve this.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanking you in advance

Re: [AI] American Express Card users with thumb impression anyone?

2014-02-09 Thread Manish Agrawal
I have used amex as a corporate card in India and haven't had any such problem.
I never told them I am blind.
They've probably never had a customer using a thumb impression earlier and so,
it is likely they don't really have any process laid out for this.

One option can be that you just fill up another application with a signature?
They won't ask to match it with anything else.

Manish

Subject: Re: [AI] American Express Card users with thumb impression anyone?

Hi Mam,

Thanks for the response; as a matter of practice I am still using thumb
impression till I do not obtain comfort and a predictable result with my
signature, which I am still practicing. And that is where the problem is coming
from.

Previously they sighted legal issues, which I could easily take care of due to
the circulars and legal provisions of laws, but now here is another angle of
Risk Management. Due to the absense of biometric devices, they are not happy to
process it sighting this angle.

I have spoken with RBI (Department of Banking Operations and
Development) which issued the circular, and their view is that absense of
biometric devices cannot be the reason to deny this facility to you. So if that
ground is put forward by them, it is open to challenge.

Based on my discussions and email communications I understand that in U.S. and
other jurisdictions people either use signature or draw a letter in presence of
a witness.

Dear Sneha,

Stanza is a free software for converting epub files into various formats

  NVDA

NVDA has been designed by a blind software engineering graduate, James
Teh, for use with Windows computers. This free and open source screen
reader has
a synthetic voice that reads whatever the cursor hovers over, and can
be used directly from a USB stick, making it ideal for students.

Serotek System Access
  (Windows)
This downloadable and complete screen reader can be used even outside
your browser, thus making it one of the quickest ways of getting a
screen reader
up and running on your system. Serotek offers extended versions for a
fee, although it is much cheaper than other screen readers.
Apple VoiceOver
  (OS X):
Apple VoiceOver includes options to magnify, keyboard control and
verbal descriptions in English to describe what is happening on
screen. It also reads
aloud file content as well as web pages, E-mail messages and word
processing files whilst providing a relatively accurate narrative of
the user's workspace.
This covers a wide array of keyboard commands that enable user
navigation of the Mac OS X interface.
ORCA
  (Linux)
ORCA is a Linux based screen reader which has also been evolving for
the past number of years. Although it is not the sole Linux-based
screen reader, ORCA
is definitely the most popular. Recently it has been included with the
Ubuntu installation CD, and with a couple of initial key presses it
allows blind
people to have audible interaction during the installation process.

BRLTTY
  (Linux)
BRLTTY is a background process (daemon) which provides access to the
Linux/Unix console (when in text mode) for a blind person using a
refreshable braille
display. It drives the braille display, and provides complete screen
review functionality. Some speech capability has also been
incorporated.

Emacspeak
  (Linux)
Emacspeak is a free speech interface and that allows visually impaired
users to interact independently and efficiently with the computer. Its
technology
enables it to produce rich aural representation of electronic
information. Emacspeak offers audible interface of the different
aspects of the Internet
such as browsing and messaging as well as local and remote information
via a consistent and well-integrated user interface.

WebAnywhere
  (All OSs, Web browsers)
WebAnywhere is a web-based screen reader for the web. It requires no
special software to be installed on the client machine and, therefore,
enables blind
people to access the web from any computer they happen to have access
to that has a sound card

Spoken Web
  (Internet Explorer)
Spoken-Web is a Web portal, managing a wide range of online
data-intensive content like news updates, weather, travel and business
articles for computer
users who are blind or visually impaired. The site provides a simple,
easy-to-use interface for navigating between the different sections
and articles.
Using the keyboard to navigate, a person who is blind or who has a
visual impairment can hear the full range of an article content
provided in a logical,
clear, and understandable manner.

ChromeVox
  (Google Chrome)
Google ChromeVox is a Google Chrome screen reader extension for
visually impaired users.

ChromeVis
  (Google Chrome)
Google ChromeVis is a Google Chrome extension that magnifies any
selected text on a webpage. The magnified text is displayed inside of
a separate lens
and preserves the original page layout. Users can change both the lens
text color and the lens background color.

Re: [AI] CPI(M) Stand on the Disability Bill

2014-02-09 Thread Radha
In fact I'm not getting agitated, mam.
In 1975,Mr. Sitaram Yechury ,completed his M.A., first class, in
Economics, from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi.
he was elected as President of the JNU Students' Union thrice during
one year (1977-78)
So, I thought when other people in parliament didnn't raise voice for
us, why should only he? Is his days of being student has been
remembered?
Hence, break even point for that human was our friends from J&U.
I neither knew about his political life nor personal to seek for support.
We have other problem in front of us, since bill is tabled and we
neither knew it went to chairman of rajya sabha Hamid Ansari or not?
Will the amendments will duly take place? will he send to standing
committee? just blank answer we get, making us to rush for a petition
in change.org commenced by Kaifi Azmi .
How can we be relaxed, when we are facing such life-to-death situation.
Insha alla, save us.

[AI] Fwd: Serious infirmities on the rights of women with disabilities

2014-02-09 Thread Ajay Arora

Gadkari

It is pertinent to note that in the 20 "non negotiables" that went
from the "Joint Forum for Disability Rights" - just a reiteration of
Article 6 was asked for. Even this was not incorporated. Clearly, the
rights of women with disabilities were negotiable, after all.

We request everyone to intervene and help prevent this Bill from being
passed in its current form on Monday, 10th February.

A note on women with disabilities, and what this Bill means to them

There is a difference between inclusion, and empowerment. A healthy
scattering of "women" around a Statute does not make it meaningful for
women, and even less so when we speak of women with disabilities.

Women with disabilities were missing from the 1995 Act, and so during
the drafting process for the new Bill, which started in 2010, the
concerns of women and children, particularly girls with disabilities,
was a huge concern. Sadly, the Bill as approved ultimately by Cabinet,
as well as in the notified amendments does not address these concerns
adequately. The UNCRPD lays down very specific obligations of the
State while discussing the multiple discrimination faced by women with
disabilities. States are obliged to take measures to ensure the full
and equal enjoyment by them of all human rights and fundamental
freedoms. States are also obliged to take all appropriate measures to
ensure the full development, advancement and empowerment of women, for
the purpose of guaranteeing them the exercise and enjoyment of the
human rights and fundamental freedoms guaranteed under the Convention.
The Bill fails to acknowledge these beyond a cursory "hat tip"
in Section 3 (2)which says that the appropriate Government shall take
special measures to protect the rights of women and children with
disability [sic] and also take steps to utilize the capacity of
persons with disabilities by providing appropriate environment, and is
limited to "protection" of the rights and not empowerment. The right
under Article 6 is inexplicably relegated to sharing a subsection with
an obligation to utilize capacity.

One of the greatest threats to women with disabilities is the failure
to recognize the right to legal capacity of all persons with
disabilities and to recognize them as persons before the law. Women
with disabilities are much more prone to being victimized and deprived
of their property rights because of such provisions, amounting to
"civil death". Especially in family courts, terms like "unsound mind"
are thrown about very easily, and it was reported that a staggering
40% of cases of divorce were on the grounds of unsound mind before
family courts in Chennai. The declaration of unsoundness of mind by
one court often creates a domino effect to deprive women of their
rights - to their children, to maintenance, to alimony, to their
inheritance, and even to personal liberty.

There are also serious violations of the reproductive rights of women
with disabilities as will be seen when in the context of Section 106
(f) which allows for termination of pregnancies without consent of
women with "severe" disabilities - what is a "severe case of
disability", can this opinion be of any "registered medical
practitioner", and why is the opinion of the guardian being sought and
not that of the woman concerned? While Section 3 (4) of the Medical
Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 is violative of the UNCRPD by
allowing for such terminations in case a woman is "mentally ill", this
Bill, let alone amending it, actually extends the removal of legal
capacity with regard to decisions of child bearing to all women with
disabilities. This also overturns case law (Suchita Srivasatava,
Supreme Court, 2009) with regard to legal capacity of women with
disabilities to make reproductive choices.

The Bill states that no person with disability shall be subject to any
medical procedure which leads to infertility without his or her free
consent, in Section 9 (2). This section is also problematic because
the test is a "procedure which will lead to infertility" and not
procedures/medications which could possibly lead to infertility. For
persons with psychosocial disabilities, who will be placed under
guardianship under Section 13 of the proposed Bill, the question of
their own consent does not arise as their guardian, be it limited or
plenary, is empowered to take "all legally binding decisions" on their
behalf.

The Bill provides for reservations in Special Schemes and Development
Programmes under Section 39 with preference to women with
disabilities. Unfortunately, as the Bill does not recognize absolute
legal capac

[AI] Intimate side of life eludes the disabled due to misinformation

BEING HUMAN
Intimate side of life eludes the disabled due to misinformation

Mithila Phadke TNN

When NGO Voice Vision conducted a workshop on sexuality for the visually
impaired in 2012,a team of medical professionals led sessions on the human
body,intimacy and abuse.Participants exchanged stories,attended freewheeling
discussions on sexual health and relationships, and with the aid of anatomically
correct models, understood what the opposite genders body looked like.In some
cases,their own.
Many didnt know their own body,or the correct terms for the genitals, recalls
Sushmeetha Bubna,founder-director of Voice Vision. It wasnt surprising. The lack
of information among the differently abled regarding sexuality is an offshoot
of a long-held assumption that they are asexual.Sex is considered to be out of
the realm of disabled, due to the perception that they either cannot,or do
not,want it.
In India, where the infrastructure, education and employment opportunities for
the disabled still have much catching up to do,intimacy is considered too
frivolous an issue to focus on,said Richa Kaul Padte, who co-authored
www.sexualityanddisability.org.
A first-of-its-kind resource, the portal addresses a wide spectrum of subjects
from fears of proving inadequate as a partner and dealing with abuse,to having
sexual relations despite a disability.Visitors pitch in with stories and
questions, such as 29-yearold,hearing-impaired Namita who wrote about moving on
after a break-up,and a mother who wondered how best to respond to her mentally
challenged teenagers curiosity about sex.Another account describes the struggle
to be perceived desirable, while being on a wheelchair.
The narratives debunk the idea that the differently abled dont consider
romance, with all its trappings,a vital part of their lives.Disability rights
activist Nidhi Goyal, who recently wrote on the subject for a news website, says
that along with finding a life partner,it is also the lighter aspects of
dating, flirting, and nursing a secret crush that are very much
underestimated.People feel that we have all these other issues like education
and empowerment to take care of first so how can we even think about romance
she says. It is like telling a college kid,Focus only on your studies. How can
you think of having a girlfriend
Also taken for granted is the idea that a disabled person must be grateful for
any attention at all. When a normal person is looking for a life partner, they
take into account their likes and dislikes, says dietician consultant Hetal
Mehta. Why should it be any different for a disabled person Mehta lost her
vision in her early 20s and is married to HR manager,Rajesh Mehta, also visually
impaired.The two met through common acquaintance,Sushmeetha Bubna.Friendship
progressed to love, and they married in 2010,despite family concerns Both
families werent sure if their child should get married to someone with a
disability, says Rajesh.Today, three years later, the couple has proved them
wrong,and won them over.
The situation gets compounded, says Bubna,by discrimination among the disabled
themselves.Men who are blind say they only want someone with low vision,or a
sighted person, she explains. They sometimes dont realise that they look for a
caretaker rather than a life partner. Activist Malini Chib agrees.Disabled men
get more partners.Women are seen as caregivers and people think that disabled
women cannot do that.
With an already-existent tendency here to suppress womens sexuality, those with
disabilities find themselves disregarded further. How can you do that says Kaul
Padte.People dont realise that if you deny someone their sexuality, you are
denying them an important part of being a human being.

LOVE NOTES: Rajesh Mehta and wife Hetal are visually impaired

Shiv

Re: [AI] Any command to restart the windows?

2014-02-09 Thread Ashik

Dear Sir,

I could make the shortcut successfully, but the Windows restarts. Can you
guide me with the code to make it shutdown? By the way, you provided a very
good trick to re-start the Windows.

hi,
to achiev this, do the following.
keeping your focus on desktop, go to new submenu by application key,
and choos new shortcut.
type the following in the location of the item dialog box.
shutdown.exe -r -t 00
click next and type a name for the shortcut and hit the finish button.
now, go to the created short cut properties and on the shortcut tab,
assign desired keystroke and you are done.
