Thanks

Re: [AI] For Ph.D

2014-03-27 Thread Penny Tony
Hi Mohit,
You will have to find out from the university that you would like to
do PhD from about their eligibility criteria and procedure for
admission.
Universities may differ slightly in their procedures, but basically
you have to have a short proposal which includes the rationale for the
research, the statement of problem and the methodology. So subject
knowledge is important and basic understanding of what the area that
you want to study and why you want to study it. Additionally your
research aptitude will be assessed and so you need to have some
knowledge about research methodology as you will have to sit for a
Research Aptitude Test.
regards
Penny

Hi,

I just learned about SpeakDropbox from mary Emerson's March 7th presentation.

This application reads additional tips that your screen reader will
not present when using Dropbox alone.

The application is free and available at

Re: [AI] JAWS Cursor Alternative For NVDA

2014-03-27 Thread Amiyo Biswas
I tried it on NVDA for a friend of mine. I could not do much about it. I
made notes on what I was able to achieve in NVDA. I am just pasting the
notes here:

I. How to simulate a mouse click using NVDA

You have noticed that when some cells are selected in Excel, the sum of the
selected cells is displayed on the status bar. Let us change the default
function of Sum to something else on the Excel status bar.

1. First enter some numbers in an Excel column.

2. Press insert+end to check the status bar. It announces the status bar and
moves navigator to it.

3. Press insert+numpad multiply. It moves the mouse pointer to the navigator
object.

4. Now press the numpad multiply for a right click of the mouse.

5. Now the shortcut menu will come alive. Use arrow keys to select sum,
count, average etc. according to your need and press enter on it.

6. Now press insert+end to check the change on the status bar.

II. NVDA Double Click

1. Select a file, preferably a text file.

2. Press insert+numpad minus to execute the command "move to focus".

3. Now press insert+numpad enter to simulate a double click.

This will open the file as if you have double-clicked with the mouse.

With best regards,
Amiyo Biswas

can check dropbox uploading status.

[AI] Avoid recognition of Hand written text while scanning in fine reader

2014-03-27 Thread Vamshi. G
Dear friends,

I have some printed pages that I have to scan. But there are some
hand written things like tick mark, rounding an option, a few words,
etc. When I scan with fine reader, these are causing unnecessary
disturbances. Is there a way I can disable recognition of any hand
written things while scanning? I mean, only printed text should be
recognised.

It is a bit urgent. So, early guidance awaited.

Re: [AI] marriage portals for visually impaireds:

2014-03-27 Thread bhawani shankar verma
abilitymatrimony.com is not fully accessible with screen readers. specially
its combo and spin boxes.
voicevision is better as the accessibility is concerned, but, there is
duplication of many marrige profiles. you will find the same name on the
list, sometimes 3 or 4 times.

Delhi

Hi.

The Chief Electoral Office, New Delhi has now launched a link on their
website by which voters with disabilities can register and ask for
facilities that may be needed on the polling day. It is for mobility
impaired, visually impaired, hearing impaired and the elderly/ infirm. One
can ask for wheelchair assistance and/or companion (as per Rule 49 N).

The more important thing is that this will give us the data on the number
of voters with different disabilities in New Delhi. Plz give it wide
publicity and coverage and request all your known friends with disabilities
to register.

If you a person with disability / a family member with a person with
disability/ NGOs working with persons with disabilities and the name of the
person with disability exists on the voter list, please register by
visiting www.ceodelhi.nic.in and look for *Electors with
Disability: Register here for Poll Day Help *! Keep your voter ID Card
number handy. The direct link to the registeration page is
http://www.ceodelhi.gov.in/OnlineErms/PollDayHelpRegistration.aspx

NGOs, Enabling Cells in Colleges/ Equal opportunity Cell in Delhi
university & Parents can facilitate online registration of voters with
disabilities in advance so that the booth officers are prepared to
facilitate their adult franchise with ease and dignity.

Please spread the word.

[AI] Finally SBI released the list of talking ATMs

2014-03-27 Thread Mr. Banker
Hello Friends,
finally SBI released the list of talking ATMs.
check out:
https://www.sbi.co.in/webfiles/uploads/files/1395469613164_SBI_TALKING_ATM_LIST.xls

or
https://www.sbi.co.in/user.htm?action=atmlocator

Pasting the conversation with SBI officials:

To: gm.custo...@sbi.co.in,
Date: 22-02-2014 07:26
Subject: Urgent regarding talking ATMs

Respected Sir/Ma'am,
I'm a visually impaired customer of State Bank of
India, unable to locate the talking ATMs installed by the SBI at
various locations.

SBI claims, it has installed more than 3000 talking ATMs (accessible
ATMs) for PWD/Blind customers who need voice or screen reader help to
do the transaction for using the ATM at various locations.

I visited the site of SBI ( www.sbi.co.in) to locate the same, locater
is there but unable to locate the talking ATMs in the given list.
One more thing, there is not such separate page or link for talking ATMs.

I and Many of my visually impaired friends who are the customer of SBI
facing this problem.

If we don't know about the location of talking machines then how we
would be able to utilize the same.
I'm also sharing the link of a page where it is clearly written, SBI
333rd talking ATM
http://efytimes.com/e1/109868/State-Bank-Of-India-Inaugurates-rd-Talking-ATM

Besides this Union Bank of India clearly mentioned on there website
about the talking ATMs and also provided the list of Talking ATMs with
locations.
http://www.unionbankofindia.co.in/personal_TalkingATMs.aspx

Hope you will share the list of talking ATM list installed at
various locations for the help of blind customers.

Waiting for your promt and positive reply.

Yours Faithfully,

[AI] Dropbox Upload Status Hot Key?

2014-03-27 Thread Bhavya shah
Dear all.
Since, navigating to the System Tray and then checking the Dropbox
File Upload Status I wanted to know if there was any hot key to make
the screen reader [preferably JAWS 14.0 but would like to know
shortcut for NVDA 2014.1] announce the Dropbox file upload status.
I am aware that there is a Dropbox NVDA add-on but do not have any
experience or knowledge about it. Please do throw some light on this
add-on as well.
I would appreciate any assistance

[AI] Voters with disability can register online

Voters with disability can register online

Manash Pratim Gohain,TNN | Mar 27, 2014, 04.44 AM IST

NEW DELHI: The office of the chief electoral officer is working overtime to
protect the rights of voters with disabilities. After the lapses revealed by
replies to RTI queries, its website launched a new facility for registration
of disabled voters, on Monday. This was done in consultation with NGOs, the
ministry of social justice and empowerment MSJE, chief commissioner for
persons with disabilities.

According to officials, the CEO office was using the inputs to make a video
module for sensitizing the polling staff. Action for Ability Development and
Inclusion (AADI), which is working with the office, is shooting a film
simulating the polling day and facilities for wheelchair users as well as
blind and deaf people. They are also making a pictorial booklet to help the
presiding officers.

On Tuesday, Dr Satendra Singh, a doctor with disability and speaker at many
disability conferences, conducted a workshop along with the additional CEO,
to sensitize the nodal officers of all the seven parliamentary
constituencies and their master trainers. He also had an interactive session
on disability etiquette, basic things to follow before the election, during
the election, inside the polling booth and on the premises. A presentation
was shared for adherence to the standard norms.

Regards,
