[AI] Enquiry request for Beetel M75 caller id phone
Hello all, Back again with another subject line. Few days before, someone had mentioned the features and price rate of Beetel landline phone, to which I had added some questions and requests. Since I couldn't find any healthy discussion on those requests, I am forced to write this e-mail separately for the same purpose. I have been looking for a landline talking phone with display for my office. The phone should be capable to announce the extension numbers of my organization appearing on its display. While mentioning this, let me be explicit. As per the company's standard I should address the caller by their name[which also appears on the display along with the number]. Have gone for number of phones in this regard, but none of them saved my purpose. Would truly appreciate, if anybody can guide me on this subject. Be frank, I am not so tech savvy and seriously doubt whether I had been clear enough! Please give me a ring at +91 9446483337 or do share the contact number if you can help me through out my searching. Thank you -- Best, Mujeeb "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread." Re: [AI] problem regarding drive
Hi, Could you elaborate, what do you actually mean by not showing drives? Perhaps you did the partitioning wrongly, that you did not create the drive that you are saying is not showing up? Could you be a bit more detailed? Re: [AI] issues with adobe reader X
Thanks for explaining the ways that eliminated your problem. but On Wed, Oct 29, 2014 at 10:32 AM, you wrote: "Hi Hozifa, my bad luck, this also didn't work. Any other solution?" But you are saying that you overcame that issue by adopting the same procedure explained earlier by him in this thread. However, The option Enable protected mode at start up is checked in my Adobe reader preferences. But I don't encounter any inaccessibility issue while reading various documents with JAWS. I am not sure whether it is because I have version XI installed in my machine or anything else. I was just desirous to know the solution so that it can be helpful for others who confront the same issue. Anyways, nice to hear that your issues got resolved. Re: [AI] issues with adobe reader X
Yes you are right, but I was very busy in the office yesterday, so could not write the steps. Actually, Hozefa explained very well in his mail, there I made little changes to over come the issue. Please go through below for the steps: Disabling Protected Mode in Acrobat Reader 10 When you first install Acrobat Reader 10 an option called Protected Mode is turned on by default. Protected Mode can interfere with JAWS and cause problems when reading PDF files. Perform the following steps to turn off Protected Mode in Acrobat Reader 10. 1. Press CTRL+K or choose Preferences from the Edit menu. 2. Your cursor will be in a list view of different categories of settings. Press G to move to General. 3. Press ALT+M to move to the Enable Protected Mode at Startup check box and make sure it is unchecked. Note that when you change this option a message will alert you that Acrobat Reader must be closed and then reopened before the change takes effect. 4. Press ENTER or activate the OK button and the Preferences dialog box closes. 5. Close and then reopen Acrobat Reader if necessary. -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of BIKRAMADITYA BEHERA Sent: Wednesday, October 29, 2014 4:53 PM To: jyoth...@canarabank.com; AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerning the disabled. He sat near the speaker system so he could catch the words and he never failed to participate. As I grew to know him, I found his keen sense of wit and got dollops of wisdom from him. Later on I discovered how he had been mentoring some Disabled people and doing what their parents could not do. He was one of the rarest Disabled persons I have met-one small illustration is that he sent me his best reader so I could benefit. [AI] Teenaged Golu an all-rounder from state bags Team India berth
http://www.telegraphindia.com/1141016/jsp/jharkhand/story_18930929.jsp#.VFEfS7dxmd4 Teenaged all-rounder from state bags Team India berth for Cape Town ODI for the blind ANIMESH BISOEE Golu Kumar His keen ears hear the ball as he takes stance and swings his bat. Sometimes, he misses. Most often, he hits. Meet 15-year-old cricketer Golu Kumar from Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's hometown. But, even Dhoni will agree that Golu is more special. The completely blind all-rounder is the only player from Jharkhand to be selected in the 17-member Indian team for the 4th ODI Cricket Tournament for the Blind in Cape Town, South Africa, from November 25 to December 9. The tourney will have teams from 10 Test playing countries. The president of Cricket Association for the Blind (Jharkhand), Vivek Kumar Singh, on Wednesday, received a letter from his outfit headquarters in New Delhi about Golu's selection. "This is a proud moment for the state. Golu is the first blind player from Jharkhand to have been selected in the Indian cricket team for an international match," said an elated Singh. Son of Rajesh Bihari Lal, a civil contractor at Booty, Golu lost his eyesight as a two-year-old in 2000 due to a tumour. He now studies in Class X at St Michael's Blind School in Ranchi. Speaking to The Telegraph over phone, the cricketer comes across as cool and composed. "Yes, its my first big break. I'd like to play well and someday lead my team just like my idol Dhoni," he says. His favourite players? "Dhoni and Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh)," he says in a flash. "This is incredible," said his father. "Even as a child, Golu loved to listen to cricket commentaries on TV," he said, admitting that he can't imagine how his son manages to make the bat-ball co-ordination. "It's a rare gift," he said. In school, Golu's sports teacher Devdas Vishwakarma first noticed his spark and made the boy start young. Golu was noticed at the zonal (east zone) cricket tournament for the blind in Cuttack, Odisha, in November 2013, and nationals in Bangalore this January. In his international debut against Australia in Bangalore this April, he hit a boundary and took a wicket. He was picked in the Indian team based on his performance at the trial-cum-camp held in Bangalore between September 22-26 this year. Country manager (game promotion) and treasurer for Cricket Association of Blind in India as well as Indian team manager David John, speaking to The Telegraph from New Delhi, said Golu was the youngest player in the Indian team. "As an all-rounder, he's just immensely talented. It's a pleasure to watch him on the field. Cricket for the visually impaired has different parameters but still, a good game is a good game," John said. Golu will leave for a three-week conditioning camp to Cuttack from November 1, from where he will go to Delhi and then fly to South Africa. In blind cricket, Golu bowls underarm with a ball made of hard plastic so that it does not bounce much. It also has a mechanism to make a rattling sound as it hits ground and must drop before half-crease. According to norms, when the batsman says "ready", the bowler responds by calling out "play", which signals that he would now throw the ball. There are three categories of players in blind cricket -- B1 (completely sightless), B2 (visibility up to 3-5 metres) and B3 (vi -- Avinash Shahi Doctoral student at Centre for Law and Governance JNU Clean India Campaign: Let us also chip in! Hello, what's the problem? I found nothing wrong in Firefox while loading the above page. I therefore assume that the web content also does not have any discrepancy. Please try resetting your Firefox to its default condition to see if you can improve the experience. May his soul rest in piece. I have heard about him but never met. -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Kanchan Pamnani Sent: Wednesday, October 29, 2014 2:06 PM To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: [AI] Sad demise We have lost Dr. Rajendra Singh Sethi. He was the first person with multiple disabilities to get a Phd. When he was very young people thought that he was intellectually challenged till they found out that he had a hearing impairment and that he was actually quite brilliant. He was one of the first few Blind persons to study in the integrated system -more than 50 years ago He was involved with NAB India and with Helen Keller Institute in various capacities. An entusiastic writer (Editor of various publications) and reader, Dr. Sethi would share his information, his braille materials including the publications that he got from abroad and rendered help to many. His readers always found him to be very nice, informative and a great source of help. I first met him a few years ago in some Disability related conference and got awe struck by the questions he asked. I have just learnt that he won a WBU international essay competition some years ago. I will misss Dr. Sethi who always had something of use for me. He was one of the first few Blind persons to study in the integrated system -more than 50 years ago He was involved with NAB India and with Helen Keller Institute in various capacities. I first met him a few years ago in some Disability related conference and got awe struck by the questions he asked. He sat near the speaker system so he could catch the words and he never failed to participate. As I grew to know him, I found his keen sense of wit and got dollops of wisdom from him. Justice Zak Yacoob worked underground during the struggle(SABC) Tags: Justice Zac Yacoob Constitutional Court Advocate George Bizos Constitutional Assembly Durban Nelson Mandela Esteemed South African jurist and struggle stalwart, Justice Zak Yacoob, is marking his last day on the Constitutional Court bench today. The judge goes into retirement after serving 15 years as a Constitutional Court judge. Justice Yacoob was amongst the first judges to be appointed to the Concourt bench having been selected by former President Nelson Mandela. Yacoob was born on the third of March 1948. Just short of his second birthday, he contracted meningitis and was blinded as a result. His blindness serves both as a marker of an exemplary life and also an inspiration to all. Justice Yacoob worked underground during the struggle and was part of the process of birthing our noble constitution. Looking back, Justice Yacoob believes that he could have accomplished even more if he was not blind. As a blind person, Justice Yacoob faced many obstacles in his path to becoming a lawyer. He is however quick to acknowledge the many helping hands along the way. Not least of all his parents. He comes from a very prominent family in Durban and his father remains highly respected to this day. His parents didn't treat him any differently because of his blindness. Justice Yacoob acknowledges that he wouldn't be where he is today if his community had not rallied together to set up a school for the blind when they did. "Teachers were working exceptionally hard because there was no material in Braille to work with. These days you can get Braille out of a computer, in those days the only way we wrote Braille was we used literally a wooden headed sharp pen poking holes into a piece of paper," reminisces Jacoob. As a blind person, Justice Yacoob faced many obstacles in his path to becoming a lawyer. Today, many still marvel at Justice Yacoob's remarkable memory. He excelled at university, obtaining an LLB degree and later being admitted as an advocate of the KZN bar. In his heyday, he worked alongside another legal great, Advocate George Bizos. The 84-year-old Bizos remembers their work together in the Constitutional Assembly: "It was always surprising when we were discussing the draft constitution - if somebody made a proposal he, despite his disability, would say well if we accept that proposal it would be in contradiction with paragraph 37 (4) 2 and somebody would read it out and he would be absolutely right." But under the heavy yolk of apartheid, over and above his blindness, Justice Yacoob faced another major challenge: he was not white. "You know I have been briefed in all my life by only two white corporate lawyers, every other attorney who gave me work was either Indian or African and I used to be very angry cos the attorney used to say that they cant give work to people other than white 'cause they gotta give work to competent people." It was only after 1994, when briefing patterns changed, that he was able to make money as an Advocate. But he faced yet another glass ceiling within the legal profession. There was some debate, and probably still is, about whether a blind person could become a judge in the ordinary high courts. It was felt by some that it might be an impediment in that such a judge would be unable to see witnesses's faces and thus unable to make credibility findings on evidence. The Constitutional Court, by contrast, does not hear witness evidence and relies on legal papers and arguments from lawyers. Years later, Justice Yacoob says it's a good thing that the high court bench was closed to him. He says: "I think now that I would have found high court practice extremely boring, and that's why maybe th

I did a Skype test call and due to unknown reasons, in which I never investigated, Skype always used to use the speakers for calls and it did the same this time. Surprisingly, along with Skype, for the duration of the call, my screen reader's speech also came through the speakers instead of the plugged in earphones. The second the call ended the screen reader began using the earphones as the output device once again. Also, I use NVDA, and through the Synthesizer dialog I changed the output device from default Microsoft Sound Mapper to Speakers/Hp, just to test, and in that test, NVDA obstinately kept using the headphones. Things are getting very confusing, but I am releived that my speakers are working fine, there is only some issue with some settings or something, please help me. On 10/28/14, Bhavya shah wrote: Dear all, This is an alarming issue that I inconsistently faced in the past and am consistently facing today. In the past, due to unknown reasons, in which I never investigated, when I used to plug in my earphones into my laptop, and then plug them out, then the speakers that are in built in my laptop would stop working, I used to fix that by playing some audio file (apart from my screen reader's speech), or if that didn't work, then restart the computer. Either of the two solutions used to fix the problem for then. However, since today, I am only able to use my earphones to receive audio from my computer, and by audio I mean all audio files and my screen reader's speech and all other sounds, I tried restarting my computer increasing and decreasing system volume, playing different forms of audio but my laptop speakers are simply not working. I have ensured that the playback device being used is Speakers/HP which I have been using from the beginning. Please help me resolve this issue. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. All Windows updates are installed (except for the optional updates) and I have restarted the computer twice or thrice. Is this some issue with my laptop speakers or is it with some settings in Windows? I would appreciate any assistance Best Regards Bhavya Shah Clean India Campaign: Let us also chip in!
