[AI] Biometric attendance!

2014-11-12 Thread P. Subramani
With the installation of biometrics attendance systems in most of central got
offices, I am wondering how the blind are using/adapting to the use of the
machines. Do we have any exemption from recording our attendance on
biometrics? if not, how to use the machines efficiently/effectively?
advise/suggestions are invited. Thanks and regards, P. Subramani

Re: [AI] Vibrating 'SmartCane' device helps blind people avoidobstacles | Reuters

2014-11-12 Thread Satguru Rathi

Dear Arti,

I've been using the Smartcane device since more than an year now and I must
say that this is a grate addon to the White cane which enables us to know
the raised obstacles which are otherwise not detectable with the regular
cane in advance and negociate them without collision. Eversince I started
using this device, there has been a significant change in my walking
behaviour and unwanted contacts with strangers, dangerous objects like tree
branches, high garbage dustbins on Delhi roads, banner posts, etc. have been
reduced to minimum which has resulted in higher dignity and improved
confidence while walking. The device has been tested and aproved by hundreds
of visually impaired users at various organisations in different
environments and situations and has received overwhelming response from all
across the country. Counting on the huge positive response and recognising
the need for safe and independent mobility, the Government of India has
decided to include the device in the list of gadgets given under its
flagship ADIP scheme for PwDs. The device can also be purchased directly at
a cost of RS. 3000 from Saksham Trust New Delhi and its partner
organisations in different states.
To maximize the outreach, the Assistech group behind this inovation have
also started their own fund raising campaign. This allows them to provide
the device to the needy visually challenged persons at a subsidized price of
Rs. 400. The remaining amount of Rs. 2600 is raised through donors. Any
person with valid disability (visual impairment) certificate and a monthly
income of less than Rs. 20,000/ month from all sources is eligible for
availing the benefit under this scheme. However, at present limited number
of donations are available and part of them are exclusively for women.
Students and young professionals (especially women) will be given
preference.
To know more about this and for registration, please contact Saksham
helpline number: 01164650655 and provide the following information: Name,
contact number, email, age, current income and disability certificate.

Re: [AI] regarding the application for ugc net.

2014-11-12 Thread muruganandan.k
dear Habib,
yes, the agency going to conduct NET exam from december-2014 is CBSE,
and you must apply for the exam only on cbse's website. just google
for net exam cbse, and you'll find the site.
regarding scribe, your indication of visual impairment itself entitles
you to take the assistance of a scribe in the net exam. you usually
the coordinating centres/universities themselves arrange the scribes.
but you also have an option to take your own scribe, only with prior
information to the centre. please contact the exam center one week
before the exam.

have attended 2 conventions, but, this was truely better than the
1st. All were working whole hartedly. One more and very important
thing I liked which is, most of the times, there was no such a famous
speaker. all are our friends only. acception is everywhere. I loved
Shalini Khanna Mam's session, who's session my eyes wer with a full
of tears until she ended.

Thanks for her spirit.

I think, if conventions will happend like this, &, we start working
according to it whole hartedly, then, the time will no too long, when
we should not wait for any convention.

Pray to god, that, give us the spirit to work so that, people
should not spend their money for such convention.

Re: [AI] need battery for wifi modem

2014-11-12 Thread Kotian, H P
Hi
Computer UPS comes of different rating. If you are talking of using a laptop
cenerio, you can have the router on the computer UPS. Its power consumption is
quite low and it should easily go on for a couple of hours whithout any other
load on the UPS.
During that period, you should not have your laptop on UPS to get maximum out
of the UPS.
