[AI] Enable a Recall Email Feature in Gmail to Undo Sending Erroneous Messages
Dear list members, I found it useful so thought of sharing with you all. Enable a Recall Email Feature in Gmail to Undo Sending Erroneous Messages If you’ve ever sent an email that you immediately realized wasn’t complete, contained errors, or, even worse, was to the wrong person, you know that feeling of dread. For Gmail users, an optional setting offers a layer of forgiveness to those situations, providing for the ability to recall a sent email if acted upon quickly. This is particularly great for those of us who use Gmail as the default email client for mail sent from web browsers Currently limited to web mail users only, the Gmail “Undo Send” feature is considered experimental by Google, but it works flawlessly to recall an erroneous email message. You’ll have to specifically enable this recall feature within some optional settings of the Gmail web client, and that’s what we’re going to show you how to do here: 1. Go to gmail.com and log in to your Google account as usual 2. Click on the gear icon / settings button in the upper right corner of the Gmail inbox window, then choose the “Settings” option from the pulldown menu Where to access Gmail Settings to enable the Undo Send feature 3. Select the “Labs” tab within Settings 4. Locate the Labs option for “Undo Send” by ‘Yuzo F’ and check the “Enable” radio box Enable an Undo Send option in Gmail 5. Now scroll down to the bottom of the screen and choose “Save Changes” 6. Next, go to the “General” tab within Gmail Settings 7. Locate the new “Undo Send” option in the General preferences, and adjust your recall email / undo send cancellation period: 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 20 seconds, and 30 seconds Adjust the Undo Send email recall period in Gmail options 8. Again scroll to the bottom and select “Save Changes” Now that Undo Send has been enabled, you can test it out or just trust that it’s there. To use the feature, simply send any email, then look at the top of any Gmail window and after a message is sent you’ll find an “Undo” option available, it’ll be right next to the “Your message was sent” box that shows up in yellow at the top of the screen. Undo Send in Gmail lets you recall a sent email message Depending on the cancellation period you chose, that “undo” option will float near the top of the screen and offer some forgiveness to recall an email message if you realized there was something sent in error, to the wrong recipient, too many typos, or perhaps just some general regret. When you click “Undo” the email becomes unsent, returns and becomes a draft – it does not get deleted. This lets you quickly correct the error and resend the message, or think it over before sending it again. The recall email function probably works by introducing a timed delay to the message actually being processed and sent to the recipient, since it’s pretty much impossible to pull an email that has already arrived in someone else’s inbox. Assuming that’s the case, the chosen cancellation period is simply adjusting that send delay, so choose something that works best for you. The default setting of 10 seconds isn’t bad and still allows for quick email delivery, though if you’re prone to errors and typos perhaps the more forgiving 20 or 30 second option would be better. Either way, this is an amazingly useful feature that is well worth enabling for all users who use Gmail as their primary email. It’s handy enough that a similar option feature really should be introduced into every email app, whether you’re sending an email from Mail on iOS and an iPhone, to Mac OS X, Windows, and Android… hopefully we’ll get there! -- Pinky Gupta Mysore Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. [AI] Rules shouldn’t come in way of affection, Bombay HC says in adoption case
http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/mumbai/rules-shouldnt-come-in-way-of-affection-bombay-hc-says-in-adoption-case/ http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/mumbai/rules-shouldnt-come-in-way-of-affection-bombay-hc-says-in-adoption-case/2/ Rules should not come in the way of love and affection, the Bombay High Court made sure this was conveyed to India’s central adoption agency that stalled the process for an American woman married to an Indian – both offering a “loving home” to a six-year-old child with special needs. The child will meet Justices V M Kanade and B P Colabawalla on June 29. \Secretary of Central Adoption Resource Agency (CARA), through its lawyer Dhairyasheel Nalawade, tried to explain how the couple require a no-objection certificate from them. The woman’s lawyer, Shirin Merchant, argued that CARA did not have any provision for a case like hers – one Indian national and another with a different nationality. Merchant pointed out that people dither and eventually back out of adoption as a result of complex CARA rules and procedures. She claimed the woman had been in India for the past six years and wanted to settle down here. “Therefore, it is not possible to procure a certificate of no-objection from the embassy or mission of my country,” the woman said in the petition. Nalawade, however, informed that she had, in May 2014, procured an NoC from the American embassy. “Lay persons like my clients do not know the procedure and as asked by the authorities had then procured one,” the woman’s lawyer contested. Justices V M Kanade and B P Colabawalla also felt there must have been some confusion and labeled the six-year-old’s welfare as the “topmost priority”. “If a person can take care of the child, then there is no need to go into the technicalities. The most important thing is the welfare of the child,” the judges said. To this, Nalawade submitted that adoption proceedings would be “jeopardised” if people would start taking legal recourse like the present one. Going by the instructions from CARA secretary Veerendra Mishra, the lawyer said there were thousands of prospective parents waiting. Situation where a child develops a bond with the adoptive parent has to be considered irrespective of rules, the court observed. “We understand your anxiety. But a child developing love and affection towards the (adoptive) mother becomes more important,” the bench said. The boy was born to an unwed woman and was put in a Pune-based adoption agency in 2012. The biological mother relinquished her rights over the child and went for a re-marriage. Under the Indian law, the adoption agency took care of the child till he turned six, after which advertisements were put out for adoption. The agency did not find it easy to find a suitable home as the child needed a proper support system for his special needs. aamir.k...@expressindia.com -- Avinash Shahi Doctoral student at Centre for Law and Governance JNU Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. Re: [AI] Converting non unicode to unicode
hi, Basically Unicode is a technical term. It is related to the fundamental theory of computer. to be crystal clear, you must have a basic knowledge of the foundation in which the computer technology stands. If you have no knowledge of how a computer works in background, if i wrote an essay explaining it, perhaps you may not understand it even. In brief: 1. Computer understands only a code of numbers but not letters. 2. Since computers understands only numbers, and no thing more, to introduce a letter to a computer we have to input the code number of that particular letter like recognizing you with your id number instead of your name. 3. to understand in better way, Take an alphabet just like your name and the word Unicode as like your id number or your roll number. if you understand these key points, you may understand the term uni code. now, you must be clear: 1. each letter must be expressed in its code number. 2. There must be a numbering method like 65 for letter A, , 66 for B, 67 for c etc. 3. Now, , Unicode refers the way of giving the numbers to the alphabets of different languages. For example, if the number given to the English alphabets is not given to the Hindi alphabets, or the numbers given to Hindi alphabets is not given to the Punjabi letters or the number given to Punjabi letters is not given to Bengali letters and so on; it must be understood as a Uni Code system. If the number of a language alphabets is repeated in another language alphabets like the code number of Hindi ka, kha, ga, gha have the same number of The code number of English letters A, B, C, D, ...; then it is non-Uni code. few more words why non-Unicode texts are inaccessible to screen reader. Now, I believe that you know: In non uni code system, the code number of letter of different language is repeated. For example, if the code number of English alphabets A, B, C, D... is same with that of Hindi ka, kha,ga, gha..., computer does not understand which language alphabet these code number belong. It is like a headmaster unable to recognize the particular student if some one reported only the roll number but did not said either class or section. If the school has an unique roll number system with no repeat in another class, the headmaster can pin point the student because there is only one student with that roll number. Same case prevails to the screen reader to recognize the alphabets of non uni code system. If it does not recognize the letters, there is no question of speaking it. Hope you are clear now.
