[AI] Our experiences with Pangot Trip

2015-09-08 Thread Binni Kumari
Dear All:

I am delighted to share our experiences with Pangot trip below on
behalf of all the Pangot tourists

Pangot

Date: 7th August to 9th August
Background:
The idea initiated on the launch of Fusion on 10th November 2013, when
majority of disabled members present, aired their wish to travel! Mr.
Rajesh Madan, who was one of the members present there took this
seriously and continued to look for how he could help make this one
wish into a reality.
And on 5th April, 2015, Mr. Madan came with the offer to take a group
of Fusionites to Pangot, a bird sanctuary 15 Km from Nanital in the
mountains of Uttaranchal. This trip was sponsored by various people as
well as the owner of the resort where the group was lodged also
partially sponsored the cost. Each member of the group had only to pay
Rs. 1,000/ for the 3 day 2 night trip! And part of the expenses were
taken care by Silver Linings.
12 Fusionits went for the trip: and all had a gala time!
Below are some heartfelt comments shared by some of the holidaymakers,
on the Magical Moments whatsApp group, which was especially created by
them!
Preeti writes:
We left Delhi from the Anand Vihar railway station by the Kath Goddam
Shatabadhi; and at the end of the 6 hour journey, 2 cars drove the
most excited group to Pangot, which was a 2 hour uphill drive via
Nanital!
Although it was raining heavily all along, there was nothing that
could dampen the soaring spirits of the supremely excited group of 9
visually impaired and 3 non disabled people! They quickly got to know
each other in the train, and by the time they were inside their rooms,
they were best of friends!
It was for the first time, most visually impaired people had stepped
out for a holiday without restraint of over powering family and
friends! And it was most wonderful to see them blossom into suddenly
confident people. They too could have so much fun; they too could be
free and enjoy the world around them! Plus, the amount of awareness
this trip created was also great! People in and around the resort,
fellow travelers and also other huge numbers of on lookers too
witnessed, visual impairment in a most positive light!
Aditi Bhutani writes:
Hi friends, we r back from an awesome trip offered by jungle CEO to
the fusion team. We went to a place called panghot near nainital, in
the lap of nature we had a variety of birds singing n hopping all
around. We were a group of 12 out of which 9 had vision impairment n
went by shatabdi till kathgodam n were taken by cabs thereafter. We
were greeted by alem, the caretaker of the resort n her team with a
warm heart. I had a special welcome however , by a leech , who had
stucked on my foot even before i could settle in my room. I had only
read about them previously , never seen one before , n i had one on me
now.

Alem pointed it n i had all sorts of questions on my mind by now,
including willl i reach back home, hahaha. It was pouring since last
night n the weather was romantic, the guests however were strangers to
each other, formal introductions had only taken place during the small
journey in the train n small sessions of antakshree in the cab. . We
were all hungry by this time. After settling our baggages in our rooms
n getting rid of the leach on my foot we were heading towards the
dining room when another member was chosen by a leech. This time
everyone was screaming in fear, alem then shared this is a regular
thing for them n leeches urify our blood n r paracites, comnon in
rainy season. I got my sinking heart back. It was now time to meet
gabbar n dolly whom we named as basanti. Both were waiting for us,
these two dogs accompanied us to all morning n evening walks n a
indispensible part of our joys n sorrows for next three days We
entered the dining area n were introduced to tejpal ji who took care
of our hungry stomachs, served us delicious cuisines, attended to our
early morning demands for tea with utmost sincerity n love. Alem
shared some interesting facts like everything served to us was organic
, The place is famous for its migratory birds n most important salt
will be our weapon against my fav leech . After having our tummies
stuffed n having felt the warm lamp lit dining area, rajesh sir took
us to the little library for the guests, it was still drizzling n we
were hand in hand with our new friends. The scenic beauty was making
it difficult for me to click n i was regretting having left my cam in
the room unaware that there were many more opportunities coming my
way!

We were then escorted to a cottage, the balcony of which was our chat
room for next one hour. In the middle of a cloud stood a group of
people from different walks of life, different on ages, from different
states, writers n chess players, girls n boys, gabbar n basanti were
speaking to break the silence of the wet amnvience. Conversations were
interesting varying from the wild animals in the area to naughty jokes
on gabbar n basanti . I was told that the place will soon be

[AI] German charity Discovering Hands trains blind women in cancer detection

2015-09-08 Thread avinash shahi
Berlin, Germany: The technique is called a "dance"; a gentle
one-two-three waltz of the tips of Steffi Gedenk's fingers across the
patient's breasts, her clavicle and, eventually, her armpits.
http://www.smh.com.au/world/german-charity-trains-blind-and-visuallyimpaired-women-in-cancer-detection-20150903-gje77t.html
The pace is slow, the conversation is gentle. Often – surprisingly, in
a clinic devoted to cancer detection – there is the sound of women
laughing together.

Women are employed not despite their disability, but because of their
capability.
Stefan Wilhelm, Discovering Hands business manager
In the past five years Ms Gedenk, who is blind, has examined more than
5000 women's breasts.

A woman is examined at a Discovering Hands clinic in Germany.

She was one of the first employees of a unique initiative that trains
blind and visually impaired women to use their tactile capabilities
for early breast cancer detection.

The Discovering Hands program, based in Essen, Germany, offers
suitable women nine rigorous months of vocational training in anatomy,
physiology and communication.

Working with apprehensive patients is not easy. The "medical tactile
examiners", as they are known, are selected for their highly developed
tactile senses, empathy and strong interpersonal skills.

"Medical tactile examiner" Steffi Gedenk.

They conduct half-hour breast examinations on women who have been
referred by their doctor. These patients have concerns about
alternations in the breast tissue, or a family history of breast
cancer and need regular checks.

Examiners stick a strip of a stippled "haptic orientation" tape to the
patient's breasts and torso, which helps them pinpoint areas of the
breast that warrant further examination.

The process is an intimate and affirming experience, says Ms Gedenk, a
qualified physiotherapist who works as an examiner at the Discovering
Hands Berlin clinic.

"It is a different and positive atmosphere – girls being girls among
each other," Ms Gedenk says. "But it's also extremely demanding. You
want to give all your patients the same attention and have to be
extremely concentrated."

Women are able to ask the so-called "stupid" questions and admit the
anxiety they feel, she says.

And sometimes they reveal other problems in their life, like
infidelity, family violence or sexual abuse. At this point Ms Gedenk
might gently offer them a referral to a suitable counsellor.

Discovering Hands describes itself as a "social" enterprise that
entwines new avenues of disability employment for women with cancer
prevention, an approach with growing support beyond the medical
fraternity.

The German not-for-profit has developed a instruction manual so its
training model can be "franchised", or replicated, in other countries,
with new programs being developed in Colombia and Austria.

Because of the time it takes to train each examiner, the growth of
Developing Hands has been deliberately slow. About 20 blind and
visually impaired staff now working from doctor's clinics across
Germany.

Most German residents have private healthcare, and the €46 ($74) cost
of their visit is fully or partially covered. Eight of the country's
largest healthcare funds have signed up so members can use Discovering
Hands, and this backing has allowed the small not-for-profit to become
viable.

And its results are impressive. Discovering Hands screened the
treatment of 451 patients by both gynaecologists and tactile examiners
and found gynaecologists were able to find about 100 alterations in
breast tissue, while the examiners found about 125.

The examiners were also able to identify noticeably smaller
alterations in breast tissue, between five to eight millimetres in
size, compared with the 10 to 15 millimetres detected by
gynaecologists.

Breast cancer is the most common disease for German women, with more
than 70,000 diagnosed each year. For about 18,000 it is a fatal
diagnosis.

Early detection makes all the difference to survival rates,
Discovering Hands business manager Stefan Wilhelm says.

And from a cost point of view, it's also considerably cheaper, with
savings of up to €60,000 ($96,000) if cancer is detected at stage one,
rather than stage four.

"In a nutshell everyone profits: doctors, the healthcare system and
the reduction of treatment costs. Women are employed not despite their

Hello Rajesh Sir,

We have spoken with NAB-India in Mumbai and AICB in Delhi regarding
RRB issues, but they are very inactive and do not want act against
RRB's special recruitment drive. I think, we should file an appeal to
bring the official stay on this recruitment so that the matter may get
discussed in a proper way.

I am totally agree with Rohiet's statement and also think that we
should take a very serious action to file an appeal against RRB.

A couple of non-accessibility related points.

[AI] Regarding Liberal Scribe Policy of Other States.

2015-09-08 Thread Amiyo Biswas
Hello,

I need liberal scribe rules where the qualification barrier has been removed in
line with the central policy. I think, many state agencies are now following
the central guidelines for different examinations. Please send me the copies in
any form or the links. I really don't find the time for searching. I have just
two hours for working on my computer in the morning when I have to do
everything.

As per this error message, the language of your document is not set
correctly.
Perform the following steps.
1. select all text in the file.
2. go to accessibility menu and then press the language button.
3. select Hindi in the list and click OK.
4. save the file and try to convert again.

Hope this solves your problem.

Yes, it is a sapi 5 voice and it works for both narrator and NVDA.

Is the sangeeta you are using a sapi5 voice? If not then it wont create

It uses the narrator's voice. My narrator's voice is set as sangeeta.
But
the daisy mp3 files are always created with the microsoft narrator's

Is there any way I can use sangeeta instead?

Re: [AI] regarding scribe colification in railway's special vacancy

2015-09-08 Thread Amjad Ahmed Fitwala
Hello Rajesh Sir,

We have spoken with NAB-India Mumbai and AICB Delhi regarding RRB's
major issue, but they are not much serious and also do not want to act
against the special recruitment drive. I think, we should file an
appeal to bring the official stay on this recruitment so that the
matter may get discussed in a proper way.

I am totally agree with Rohiet's entire statement and also think that
we should take a very serious action to file an appeal against RRB.

Sir, may I please request you to help all the candidates those are
very helplessly struggling for their rights and fully keep trust on
some NGOs.
