[AI] New App Voice Braille Reader Can Speak your Downloaded Braille Files Including BARD Downloads

New App Voice Braille Reader Can Speak your Downloaded Braille Files
Including BARD Downloads
J.J. Meddaugh today 5:00 PM ET

C-fes Co. Ltd. has released an iOS app which allows for the direct
reading of braille files using speech. The $14.99 Voice Braille Reader
reads .BRL and .BRF files, such as those downloaded from the NLS BARD
service or BookShare. It can also import files from Dropbox, Evernote,
iCloud, and other applications. It also supports adjustable reading
speed, a synchronized display with the braille that is currently being
spoken, and reading of braille inside .ZIP files. If you wish to try
out the app before you buy, you can get Voice Braille Reader Lite
which allows for up to five minutes of reading per day. Hat tip to
David Goldfield for the discovery.

[AI] The Haptic Sandwich Takes a Different Approach to GPS Navigation

The Haptic Sandwich Takes a Different Approach to GPS Navigation
J.J. Meddaugh today 6:10 PM ET

The term "haptic"" is often associated with vibratory feedback, but in
reality, it's a more general word that simply relates to the sense of
touch. Adam Spiers, a post-doc associate at the Yale University
robotics lab, has created a new GPS device with this notion in mind,
called the Haptic Sandwich. While other related gadgets indicate
direction by various vibration patterns, the top half of the Haptic
Sandwich actually twists to indicate the direction of travel needed to
reach a destination. Among the possible applications for the device is
aiding sighted and visually impaired hikers by guiding them using an
unobtrusive device. You can read more from the original article at

[AI] 11-year-old Science Student Finalist in Nationwide Competition for Accessible Chemistry Tool

2015-09-21 Thread Bhavya shah
11-year-old Science Student Finalist in Nationwide Competition for
Accessible Chemistry Tool
J.J. Meddaugh today 5:52 PM ET

Another middle school student is working to develop a solution to help
blind and visually impaired students. Seventh grader Hari Bhimaraju of
Cupertino, Calif. has developed a tool to help blind and visually
impaired students learn more about chemical elements including their
atomic structure. She is one of 30 nationwide finalists in the
Broadcom Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering Rising
Stars (MASTERS) competition which will be held October 2-6. She
explains the tool in a recent article in the Marin Independent
Journal.
"It's a tool which helps you learn about the elements in the periodic
table. So you enter in an atomic number or a chemical symbol or a
chemical name, then it will provide you with all these results," she
said. "With that, it will draw the atom and then step by step while
writing the electron configuration so that you can understand what
part of the atom is what."
Winning the competition will net Bhimaraju $25,000. The Computer
History Museum in Mountain View will host a public exhibition of the
project's finalists on October 3.
According to the Broadcom MASTERS website, "Science fairs around the
country nominate the top 10% of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to
enter this prestigious competition. After submitting the online
application,
300 semifinalists
are selected and
30 finalists
present their research projects and compete in team hands-on STEM
challenges to demonstrate their skills."

Subject: [F 1 2 3] New version available
To: f123-access-engl...@googlegroups.com

Hello everyone,

We just want to let you know that a new version of F123 Access is
available. You can wait for your browser to update it automatically or
you can update it right now using the update option of the F123 Access menu.

In Firefox, you can find the F123 Access menu to the right of the "Edit"
menu. You may also open it easily with Alt+3. The update option is the
last one on the menu.

This version fixes the problem with sorting of WhatsApp conversations.

Best regards,

Fernando

[AI] FYI: Only 10% NGOs have filed financial details with govt: CBI to Supreme Court

2015-09-21 Thread avinash shahi
http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-others/only-10-ngos-have-filed-financial-details-with-govt-cbi-to-supreme-court/
Less than ten per cent of over 30 lakh NGOs functioning across the
country have submitted their returns or their balance sheets and other
financial details to the authorities, CBI has informed the Supreme
Court.

The dismal picture was presented by the CBI to the apex court on the
basis of the income-expenditure statement of a total of 30,81,873 NGOs
in 26 states and seven Union Territories.

A fresh affidavit by CBI maintained that approximately 9.33 per cent
of the registered NGOs met the criteria of filing the returns.

The latest report by the agency came eight months after the last
affidavit filed in January when it had submitted that out of 23,95,579
NGOs in 21 states, approximately 2,43,955 of them had filed their
balance sheets with the authorities and, in seven UTs, of the 73,213
NGOs, only 50 had submitted their returns.

At that time, only 10.24 percent of the registered NGOs in the country
had complied with the prerequisite of providing balance sheets and
other financial details.

When the matter came for hearing today before a bench of Chief Justice
H L Dattu and Justice Amitava Roy, CBI said it would require another
couple of months to compile all the information as it was expecting
more information from some state governments.

The CBI asked the bench to pass some order to the governments of
Karnataka, Odisha and Telangana to furnish all the information as per
previous directions.

It said that out of the total 30,81,873 NGOs, 290873 have filed their
annual returns and Karnataka, Odisha and Telangana have so far only
provided the names and number of the voluntary bodies registered in
the respective states without furnishing information about the
balance-sheets.

The CBI said it has received complete informations from Assam,
Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir,
Nagaland, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim,Tripura,
Kerala, Punjab, Maharashtra, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Bengal,
Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana
and all the seven union territories Andaman & Nicobar, Pondicherry,
Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep, Dadar and Nagar Havali and UT of Delhi.

The government had earlier said that the NGOs would not be eligible
for any grant unless they complied with the condition of filing
statements of income and expenditure of last three years.

The apex court had expanded the scope of the PIL which was filed in
2011 by advocate M L Sharma against an NGO, Hind Swaraj Trust, run by
anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare.

The PIL had sought probe into alleged embezzlement of funds.

Re: [AI] Removing /transferring mails from Gmail

2015-09-21 Thread Bhavya shah
Hi,
To delete mails folder wise, create a filter, input the criteria
applied in the filter used in that particular label, and instead of
checking the box 'Apply to label', check Delete It and your job will
be done.
Once the filter is created, verify that it has performed its function,
and then delete the filter, or else all future mails coming in that
label will also be automatically deleted.
Thanks.

from the addon directory. This would even clears ads from youtube videos.

[AI] Why Being a Blind Mother Is Awesome By Courtney Tabor-Abbott

2015-09-21 Thread avinash shahi
Editor's Note: We welcome Courtney Tabor-Abbott as a new contributor
to FamilyConnect. Courtney works for the Perkins School for the Blind,
is a parent of two sighted children, and is willing to share her
perspective and tricks of the trade as a mother who is blind.
http://www.familyconnect.org/blog/familyconnect-a-parents-voice/why-being-a-blind-mother-is-awesome/12
I am a parent of two young children. James is 2 ½; Samuel is 7 months.
Life with a toddler and an infant is crazy. My house can go from clean
to total disarray in a matter of minutes. Between baby spit up and
toddler potty training and infant diaper changes, there are more
bodily fluids than any one human being should ever have to deal with.
And frankly, the period from dinnertime to bedtime each night often
feels more like a meltdown management system than a peaceful goodnight
routine. Adding my vision impairment to the mix makes things even
crazier sometimes. Spoon feeding an infant is tougher; cleaning up
messes takes longer; and I’m beginning to spend a fair amount of time
learning to detect lies from my 2-year-old who insists that his
playroom is “all clean, Mama!” when really there are puzzle pieces all
over the floor.

Being a blind mother is tough, frustrating, chaotic at times, just as
it is for most parents. But being a blind mom is also pretty
fantastic. Here are some of the things that make it special:

Lots of physical contact

Parents generally touch their kids a lot: to snuggle, to kiss a
scraped knee, to wipe the spaghetti sauce out of their hair. For me,
touching is my way of seeing. I touch my children all the time. When
Sam is sitting and playing on the floor, I reach out and feel his
little hands to see what he is holding. I rest my hand on the top of
his head or the side of his face to learn where he has turned his
attention to. When we’re eating dinner and I get the feeling that
James might be doing something sneaky, I reach over and touch him to
find him drinking out of his cup with a spoon or trying to get away
with putting his feet on the table. Not gonna fly, kid.

I learn a bit about what my children look like by stroking their hair,
tracing my fingertips down the bridges of their noses, resting my hand
on their soft cheeks as I rock them before bed. When they laugh, I
reach out and touch their cheeks to feel them smiling. Smile cheeks
are the absolute best.

Patience

For me, blindness often means that things take me longer than they do
for a sighted person. It took me a while to learn how to master a
poopy diaper change, and it still takes me a bit longer than average
to make sure everything gets thoroughly cleaned. Figuring out how to
bathe a newborn who couldn’t support his own head took a while.
Chopping up veggies to have with lunch takes a bit longer than it does
for the sighted people I know. But the benefit to this is that my kids
are patient. They have to wait sometimes and they are usually okay
with that. We don’t live life in a rush, except maybe when I’m late
for work and I’m trying to get my dawdling toddler out the door. We
talk a lot about patience in our house, not because of my vision but
because I think it is an important trait to have. The fringe benefit
of having a vision impairment is that my children have learned about
patience from day 1.

It Is Natural

Kids are accepting. They adjust quickly. And until they learn
otherwise, the way Mommy or Daddy does things seems like the most
natural thing in the world. James is an independent 2-year-old and has
never really been a touchy-feely type, but he never protests when I
touch his face or his hands. I’m sure this will have to stop
eventually when he gets older, but right now it works for us. When I
ask him to show me something, he is learning to bring it right to my
hands to feel, rather than holding it up from across the room. He
helps me too, without me asking for the help. When I’m cleaning up a
spit up mess from his little brother, he’ll yell out, “More spit up on
the floor Mama!” Now that he knows his colors, I have him help me pick
out outfits for Sam to wear. When he rubs his fingers over the Braille
in a book we’re reading, or begins swinging my cane back and forth
along the ground shouting with delight, “Me walk like Mama!” it makes
my heart catch in my throat a bit. This is the life they know, the
life they will know for a long time. It will be different from the
rest. It will be strange sometimes, annoying and frustrating perhaps
as they grow. But it will be natural. I don’t expect my children to
always like me, or to always want to be around me, or to always be
okay with having a mom who is blind. They will deal with that as they
go through the phases of their own lives. But for now, knowing that my
vision impairment is as natural to my boys as loving them is natural
to me is a really, really special gift

Hi,
Gajendra Sir,
Could you tell us which screen reader do you base while asking this
question?

Surya Sir,
I guess your instructions are pertinent to JAWS...
Saying so to prevent any misunderstanding by NVDA users. I probably
root mouse pointer to navigator object and then perform a left mouse
click, but, will test and revert back with a solution for NVDA users
as well, if required by Gajendra Sir, or someone else...
Thanks.
P.S. If you would like to deal with clickable elements, I would
strongly recommend you enable reporting of clickable content as so in
the Document Formatting Settings.

Generally we wille use slash to navigate between clikable elements.

Use control insert slash.
You will get a dailague box with all the clikable elements.
We can navigate by arrow keys,
And
Give enter on the element you wish to activate.
We will return to the web page again.
Give enter again on that particular clikable element.
Hope this helps.

[AI] Report on Project Dignity Session III

2015-09-21 Thread Binni Kumari
Dear All:

I, Ms. Binni Kumari on behalf of Project Dignity Team share the report
on it's session III:

REPORT DIGNITY WORKSHOP
Session 3:

Date: 13/09/2015 (Sunday)
Time: 11 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.
Venue: The Silver Linings office: 164B PocketA, Mayur Vihar, Phase II,
and and East Delhi.

Total number of Dignity Lady Members present: 13. There were 7 new
members and 6 regular members.
There were 11 members with varied degree of vision impairment, and we
had 2 sighted non disabled members.
Age group of the present Dignity members was from 21 up to 57 years.
Main topics covered during the Dignity Session III were, Confidence
and Sexuality.

The session started with the purpose of the Project Dignity. This
project aims at discovering one’s own attributes, attitude, real self
and a way forward towards realizing one’s own worth and working
towards achieving the same, helping each other realize that the
responsibility of where we are in life at any point, is absolutely our
own. So it is very important to discover our own strengths and
weaknesses, so we can work towards making the required changes to be
able to continue to walk on the path of success. To live with a
purpose and become contributors and make the most of all that one has!

This was followed by the session on Confidence. In this session, each
one of us was asked to define what the words confidence and Dignity
meant to us. Tools were shared with us as to how we could practice on
our own, to further build and develop confidence and self-esteem.

This was followed by lunch.

Post lunch, we embarked on the session on sexuality, specifically
keeping in mind the requirements of visually impaired females. Here
each member very openly shared our understanding about sexuality.
We talked about menstrual cycle, how sexuality is understood in our
society, our understanding about sex and sexuality due to lack of
eyesight, etc.

Moving forward:
We plan to take up various topics like personality, sexuality,
socialization, health, etc. for each one of us to be able to benefit
from the Dignity workshops.
We plan to conduct Dignity session 4 on body image and communication
under sexuality and personality in the next month.
We will indicate the date as soon as it has been confirmed.

Project Dignity requests each existing and potential participant to
maintain the continuity in their participation, for stealing concrete
benefits out of the sessions. However, in case you are a girl/lady,
you are welcome to come join the Dignity workshops, to discover the
value you may find for yourself!
With best regards, Project Dignity Team!
