Re: [AI] hindi PDF files

2015-10-11 Thread Him Prasad Gautam
hi,
It has worked in my case.
I had done the same for a file of 1200 pages.
I am pretty sure it works.
Perhaps the time you have to wait after choosing file copy to
clipboard may be insufficient.
It takes longer time than a normal copy.
Please re-try with a passion.
Be sure the cursor on the blank word file is in edit mode.
Further, if the pdf file contains mixed text on Hindi and English, the
attempt may not work.
Be sure that the traditional fonts used in the pdf file contains in
your computer.

 hello,
when you use this option i.e. save as text with hindi pdf files,
often you lose it's character encoding if it is in unicode hence, i
use the utility called UniPDF Converter. else you can select the text
from pdf file itself and then copy the same in word file.
there might be other ways which might be suggested. i use this method
 and it works fine.

Re: [AI] Is it worth switching to Mac from Windows as a visually impaired user?

2015-10-11 Thread surabhi . sachar
Hi,

Apple accessibility is brilliant. I had thought of purchasing one for myself,
but couldn't because my organisation uses windows. However, I have been using
iPhones and iPad , and theres no better device with respect to accessibility
interface.
It's just that you will have to adapt to a new software. I would suggest that
you could join the apple accessibility community for a few days, and speak to
an authorised dealer about the training for using a Mac book. In case, you
have a friend who's already using a Mac with iOS , then try that with voice
over.
It's an expensive device, but you can always switch to windows with boot camp
feature.
Hope that helps.

Thank you.
Regards
Surabhi Sachar

[AI] (AI) Information required about indoor navigation devices

2015-10-11 Thread turab chimthanawala
Hi all
I wish to know about any devices which would enable us to navigate
indoors. For outdoors we have the smart cane but using the cane may
not be all that elegant while going to some sophisticated place such
as somebody's office or some conference hall. So are there any
devices which would help us to find our way without looking lost or
banging into objects. A couple of years back there was a writeup of
some shoes named Le Chal being developed. But there is no update on it
of late. Any information on this topic would be highly appreciated.
Best
Turab

2015-10-11 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi Rishi,

The answer, in all such cases is "it depends." What is the software that you
use? What kinds of things do you plan to do with your machine? If the only
reason you are switching to a MAC is an outdated version of jaws, then download
NVDA and give it a spin. If however, there are other considerations, then go for
it. Yes, Apple accessibility is good but it is still difficult to create complex
documents on theMac. This situation may have changed. Start your research at
http://www.applevis.com.

You can run windows on a Mac via bootcamp and other virtualization software.
However, if you are doing audio production work on Windows then this approach
could be problematic. See the posts on http://www.hartgen.org. This is why I
stress on use cases.

The correct length my mobility instructor had told the cane should come upto

This would give 2 step distance to respond.

Egyankosh is dead and there are bleak chance that it will get revived. If
you want the materials in etext then get it scanned and post it on internet

[AI] AICB Conference in Hyderabad: RTE for Visually-challenged Demanded

2015-10-11 Thread avinash shahi
HYDERABAD:Visually-challenged people from various parts of the
country, who gathered at a national conference on Right to Education
Act (RTE) here on Sunday, made a unanimous demand for equal
opportunities for blind students in education.

Former chief commissioner PK Pincha delivering a keynote address at
the All India Confederation of the Blind National Conference on Right
to Education Act in Hyderabad on Sunday | A Radhakrishna
The participants, including noted educationalists, teachers and
government employees, felt that education of blind students was being
ignored by the central and state governments.

The All India Confederation of the Blind (AICB) organised the
conference to discuss the problems faced by the visually challenged in
the education sector. Experts from various states participated in it.
Most of the participants demanded that RTE be implemented for
visually-challenged students.

Delivering the keynote address, former chief commissioner for the
disabled PK Pincha suggested that the government focus on three key
solutions to improve education facilities for the visually challenged.
He said the present welfare schemes for the disabled should be
strictly implemented and new initiatives taken by governments. He also
advised the government to supply advanced disabled-friendly gadgets to
students in special schools to enable them to learn easily.

AICB general secretary and social worker JL Kaul appealed to the state
government to improve the facilities at special schools, most which
still depended on donations from philanthropists. He urged the
government to sanction adequate funds to these schools.

Development and Welfare Association of the Blind (DWAB), which
collaborated with AICB in organising the conference, sought support
from the Telangana government to establish more special schools in the
state under the ‘KG to PG Free Education Scheme’. P Chokka Rao, DWAB
general secretary, asked the government to set up a special school in
each district so that students from rural areas can benefit.

The recommendations made at the three-day national conference will be
compiled into a report and submitted to the central government to
frame new education policies for the disabled.

DyCM, Officials Give Event a Miss

All India Confederation of the Blind (AICB) members, who came from 13
states to participate in the national conference on RTE in Hyderabad,
received a hurtful welcome as none of the chief guests including
deputy chief minister Kadiyam Srihari and other top officials attended
the event as they promised. Srihari was to be the chief guest on the
inaugural day but he gave it a miss, citing ill health. Officials from
the education and disabled welfare department also did not turn up.

This prompted JL Kaul to remark, “If they don’t even want to know our
views, how can we expect them to solve our problems?” But the
Development and Welfare Association of the Blind said the DyCm could
not attend because of health problems and he sent MLC Sudhakar Reddy
on his behalf.
