[AI] Moderator: RE: Name-calling: is it possible to penalise under any law?

2015-12-28 Thread Kotian, H P
All

When we don't appreciate name calling, what is this name calling to the Prime
minister?

Can decorum be practiced without use of stronger code?

Freedom of speech is definitely a right, there is also responsibilities and
duties attached. We should not forget that.

I suppose, the message is clear enough and I am not pushed to repeat this once
again.

Re: [AI] Name-calling: is it possible to penalise under any law?

2015-12-28 Thread Lissy Verghese
Dear friends,
It is true that when the body loses one sense, it tries to compensate
for it with whatever it has. Our dear Prime Minister appears a bit
sympathetic. Strong words won't help. Let's cooperate with our
Government by suggesting amendments. If we stand together, we will
definitely be heard. Let organizations all over India come together
and put forward constructive suggestions so that the efforts of the
Government for an inclusive India can be fulfilled.
Thank you!
Lissy Verghese

[AI] PAYMENT SYSTEM INNOVATIONS CONTEST

All

A good opportunity to give shape to ideas for an accessible payment solution
too. Although, accessibility is not really spelt out, surely, it will gain
extra weightage.

Re: [AI] railway ID card for differently abled not working

2015-12-28 Thread Rohiet A. Patil

Hello sir!
I check the same after reading your mail. According to my openian, it's not
a bug. They have done the same for linking perpose only. If you click "next"
and go to the gerny summary screen, the handicap card number appears after
the name of our escort also. But the age and Government ID card number of
escort is correctly appearing. So no problem in continuing the process with
that.

Subject: Re: [AI] railway ID card for differently abled not working

I could use my card for the first time yesterday, though I solved captchha
using sighted help, rather than taking OTP.

I entered the card number in full all letters and numbers including zeros..

However, there is a strange bug.

Date of birth for escort automatically is taken as your date of birth and
you cannot change it.

If you change it, it shows a mismatch and ticket is not booked.

Fantastic coding error.
Why should my escort be born on the very same day with me?

Hello!
The on-line concession ticket booking depends on 4 things. 1. Your unique
card number. 2. Your name as they have entered in there PRS system. 3. Your
date of birth. and 4. Expairy date of your card. All the things should be
correct. Then only your card will be validated.
Your unique number is not the 6 digits number. It is a alpha nummaric code
which contain your zone name and the city from which you made the card. For
example, I made my card from Pune which belongs to Central railway. So my
unique number starts with CRPUNE. Most important thing, we do not have to
enter 0 in that number. It has no vallue at all. We only have to enter all
the other number after zone name and city station code.
I hope that I have not confused you. If so, Plese get in touch with me on my

cell number so that I can explain you better. I know that I could not
explain all the things in this mail.

Subject: [AI] railway ID card for differently abled not working

hey guys, i've got railway ID card couple of days back. however, i am not
able to book concessional tickets through IRCTC.co.in.
after login, i entered from and to stations, then entered date in
DD-MM- format and then, checked on I'll book in Handicap concession and
clicked on next. there it showed me list of trains there i selected desired
category and clicked on book now. there was some radio buttons. i had kept
on general itself. because when i choose physically disabled, then it
becomes not available for every category. then i clicked on next.
in the next page, i was asked to enter passengers details. i entered my
name, age, gender, from the combo box selected handicap. then entered 6
digit ID card number and then entered my date of birth and card expiry date
in DD-MM- format and clicked on next
it is giving me following error: Unable to perform Transaction due to
Essential Validation Integrity Checks failure. Please contact customer care.
the card number is of 6 digits starting from 00. i even tried entering last
4 numbers eliminating first two zeros. even that did not help.

what wrong am i doing. or the card that i've got is not valid

waiting for your valuable replies in anticipation

[AI] Technique to read tool tip.

2015-12-28 Thread Sumesh Surendran
Dear all,

Once again I need your valuable help.

Is there any way to read the tooltip using JAWS or NVDA?

By tool tip I ment, the small help text shown when we bring the mouse
cursor on any icon .

Also is there any way to get that text magnified, or copied in to the
clip board.
What I need exactly is to read the tooltip of some icons in the
action window in the adobe photoshop to set the automation procedure
for converting pdf files in to jpeg.
This particular window doesn’t seems very much accessible to JAWS or
NVDA. But it will be ok if I can read the tooltip which appears while
bringing the mouse cursor on eachicons.

Also I tried to read it using the windows magnifier, but there also
the result is negative. Because the magnifier shows the area above the
cursor point and the tool tip appears below the cursor position.

Expecting your expert advice,
Sumesh K S

Dear friends,
It is true that when the body loses one sense, it tries to compensate
for it with whatever it has. Our dear Prime Minister appears a bit
sympathetic. Strong words won't help. Let's cooperate with our
Government by suggesting amendments. If we stand together, we will
definitely be heard. Let organizations all over India come together
and put forward constructive suggestions so that the efforts of the
Government for an inclusive India can be fulfilled.
Thank you!

2015-12-28 Thread Preeti Bhutani
What about people who have multiple disabilities ? when the
body loses one sense it is not compensated by other senses in their case.
These words are just words, heard numerous times.

When a door closes, God opens a window, they say, but what we need a
helping hand to get to the window.

That we need , a helping hand so we all do what we all are capable of.

We won’t become specially abled till we get some “special" helping hand
from government and society ,

[AI] My paragraph of the Day: Thank you Mr Narendra Modi for the ‘divyang’

2015-12-28 Thread avinash shahi
As Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi terming dalits as ‘harijan’ sparked off
a political and intellectual fervent among the dalits decades ago,
similarly the Prime Minister Modi’s new invention ‘divyang’ for
addressing the disabled should spur political awakening and
intellectual currents among the disabled. This is an opportunity to
assert one’s choice independently. Isn’t it ironical that the disabled
people have been unquestioningly burdened with multiple collective
denominations imposed by the political class and the mainstream media
without taking them on board. If Mr Modi really thinks we are
‘divyang’, then what about extending parliamentary entry through Rajya
Sabha to the ‘divyangs’ to run the Upper House smoothly and
efficiently? What about creating Ministry of ‘divyang’ affairs in
2016? Why delaying the implementation of the 3 per cent reservation in
jobs despite the Apex Court’s directions? Mr Modi, merely asking the
nation to address the disabled as ‘divyang’ is insufficient. If you
really mean what you say, please increase the budgetary allocation for
the ‘divyang’ affairs in the forthcoming Budget which was paltry Rs
5000 crore for the year 2014-15. The large number of disabled people
are struggling for the bear minimum, and they are still ‘divyang for
the Prime Minister, it’s a cruel joke with their lives.‘what’s in a
name’, they say.

We should not forget that we have problem of sight therefore to
identify/address/recognise among all, we need a word.
the Question is that we should like handicapped or differently abled

Name calling is when somebody with intention of hurting deliberately
uses a derrogatory term.

Re: [AI] Fwd: Re: Name-calling: is it possible to penalise under any law?

2015-12-28 Thread Kotian, H P
Hi

I really don't see why so much fuss is done on the list. A sensible approach is
tell the government what is it that we want to be called and why. The
government has opened up so many channels for citizen's to communicate,
Please make use of it.

The PM had merely made a suggestion, it is not cast in stone.

Oho, Bichara PM.
Let us spare him.

Namecalling or not, PM or not:

I would even prefer short and simple: "Andhaa" to so-called Divyang

As the former openly expresses what I cannot do, and the perception of the
people rather than masking and deifying it as the later does.

Re: [AI] My paragraph of the Day: Thank you Mr Narendra Modi for the ‘divyang’

2015-12-28 Thread Anirban Mukherjee
Dear Avinash,

if all the demands of the "divyangs" like 3% reservation, nomination
to the upper house etc are accepted, still, this "divyang" would
remain problematic for me. this mythologising of disabled people is an
attempt to shift the focus away from the miserable siuation which most
of us are having to confront with.

on a slightly lighter note, i consider myself an atheist and if our
prime minister's words are to be accepted, then, it underscores that
it's god who made me blind, made someone deaf, someone mentally
retarded. therefore, it reinforces my belief in denouncing an entity
who had compelled me to face a far stiffer struggle for existance than
my non-"divyang" counterparts.

sincerely, Anirban Mukherjee

Somehow, the topic got hijacked overlapping with the topic of divyang.
I request you all to discuss whether any efforts have been made to
penalise name-calling by way of acts, circulars or orders.

‘divyang’

2015-12-28 Thread Asudani, Rajesh
Oho, Bichara PM.
Let us spare him.

Namecalling or not, PM or not:

I would even prefer short and simple: "Andhaa" to so-called Divyang

As the former openly expresses what I cannot do, and the perception of the
people rather than masking and deifying it as the later does.

The topic is being diverted by some people to unnecessarily drag PM
into the discussion.
Name calling is when somebody with intention of hurting deliberately
uses a derrogatory term.
It is not in case of Divyang.

Somehow, the topic got hijacked overlapping with the topic of divyang.
I request you all to discuss whether any efforts have been made to
penalise name-calling by way of acts, circulars or orders.

Hello sir!
I check the same after reading your mail. According to my openian, it's not
a bug. They have done the same for linking perpose only. If you click "next"
and go to the gerny summary screen, the handicap card number appears after
the name of our escort also. But the age and Government ID card number of
escort is correctly appearing. So no problem in continuing the process with
that.

I know that I could not
explain all the things in this mail.

friends, legally speaking, although pwd Act does not provide for
protection in case of name calling etc.
nevertheless, name calling which is derogatory, humilating and
indignified actually violate human right of individuals to live with
 dignity.
if the instances of indignity and humilation are documented or can be
corroborated then it is a fit case to bring to the notice of nhrc.
by the way, nhrc also has a disability wing which one should approach
for violation of human rights under UNCRPD.

hope this helps. I would be happy to guide.

Instilling independence in them

Tiffany Brar
Tiffany Brar

It’s the first floor of a nondescript building at Ambalamukku here. A
woman in the small reception speaks about her visually challenged son
who is pursuing his postgraduation through distance mode. A couple of
minutes into the account, tears well up in her eyes. But reassurance
is close at hand. Tiffany Brar, 29, who is visually challenged, runs
the Jyothirgamaya Foundation, a non-profit organisation that motivates
and trains the visually challenged in various aspects, thus bringing
them into the mainstream.

Ms. Brar, through her foundation provides the visually challenged
training in computers, including use of the Internet and social media,
English communication, and importantly mobility training. This
involves learning how to use a stick or a white cane, how to find
one’s way on the road, cross roads, travel in public transport, the
indoor environment, and so on. Confidence building sessions too equip
them to venture out alone and get things done, Ms. Brar says.

The course, which is free, may go up to two months, but there is no
fixed duration, she says. Only seven or eight trainees are accepted in
a batch to provide individual attention. In 2012, Ms. Brar had led an
initiative of Braille without Borders where she volunteered to take
learning to blind children by setting up a mobile blind school. But
she soon realised that she could cover only a certain area in a day
and train not more than two children if she was to spend at least a
couple of hours with them, especially if it involved travelling to
places such as Parassala and Neyyattinkara.

The lack of continuity led her to decide to visit the houses of only
those who had no avenues to come to a centre started by her. For
others, there is the residential course. A new batch will kick off in
the first week of January.

Accommodation and food are provided, she says. The centre was started
nine months ago, and Ms. Brar hopes to receive more enquiries with
time. Ms. Brar is currently working on bringing out the foundation’s
newsletter. Website: www.jyothirgamayaindia.org. Ph: 0471 6546548,

Traditionally, the Indian mythology has depicted disable people as
cruel souls. Now this shift to 'divyang' suggested by the head of the
government through publick broadcast is even more frightening. We have
all reason to discard such unilateral imposition of will by the Prime
Minister.

It is not only psychological abuse, but legal abuse, and more so.

I have witnessed few regulators as laggard as UGC.

Otherwise also, being a part of the banking regulator of the country, let me
hasten to add in favor of UGC that it is not in bad company!!
Smile!

Do seek ad-ministrative remedy from sarkaar, if you can, or knock the doors of

Subject: [AI] Got completely frustrated after appearing in UGC exam held on 27
december 2015

I am still not able to understand why people moove from their moral duties and
how to make these people aware. In UGC exam, scribe went along with me was
denied to write my exams by principle of shri harkrishan public school shaheed
seva singh nagar, Patiala. I agreed calmly with the alternative to provide me
the scribe they have.

Moreover, I was placed in the main area of the reception of that school with
the reason, we don't have extra room. This was not the end, it hurt me when the
invigilator cum writer was performing other tasks by holding me again and
again. Now one can imagine how difficult is to concentrate on writing the exam
with the management where they are discussing all the issues like when to ring
the bell, discussing about the complains of the other invigilators etc with the
same person who is writing your exam. Even I was not able to utilize the extra
time given to me because of the heavy disturbance of the crowd of the students
who were moving out for recess.

After recess, fortunately a friend of mine complained them again to allot me a
room, they gave me a staffroom near to reception with the same environment and
I was offered water and sweets there. hahaha.

This was the reality that my complaints and problems were taken lightly and
were completely ignored by the principle of that school.

Now the question mark is, was it the fault of the principle, or of management
of CBSE or of me?

Or without caring about my exam I should have been created mess with principle
to make them fulfill my requirements.

With the same procedure I have successfully appeared in the UGC exam last time
in Chandigarh. So why such discrimination this time.

Anyways, I have lodged the complain to the deputy director social security
board Punjab, with CC to CBSE and to mukesh Jain, Joint secretary department of
disability affairs. And have also reported to times of India.

Lets hope for the positive response.

Here I’m pasting the content of that Email.

28th December 2015.

From:

Jyoti Malik,

To:

Mr. Harpal Singh, Deputy Director Social Security Board Government Of Punjab.

Respected Sir,

Subject: Requesting To Intervene To Find a Remedy To My Emotional and
Psychological Abuse By SRI GURU HARKRISHAN PUBLIC SCHOOL, SHAHEED SEWA SINGH
THIKRIWALA NAGAR RAJPURA ROAD, PATIALA, PUNJAB.

I,, a research scholar residing in the above mentioned address has
appeared in the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) held on 27th December 2015
with roll no.: 61005815

As per the procedure and guidelines, I’ve brought the scribe with me for my
exam, but the principal of the above mentioned school denied my legitimate
option of using the writer. Moreover, I have been made to sit in the reception
hall to write my exam. Moreover, the person who was provided by the school to
write for me has been given multiple tasks during the exams which has eaten my
exam hours. The environment was completely inaccessible, it was completely
violative to the guidelines of the chief commissioner for persons with
disabilities (CCPD) and the Prime Minister’s “Accessible India.” It is
unfortunate and disappointing to experience that the 1 entire year of my life
is ruined by the poor administrative process. it is hard to imagine that a
candidate of NET exam has to sit in the reception to write the exam. this
discriminatory treatment has created a concern in me. I request you to
intervene and kindly grant me justice against the emotional and psychological
abuse i have ben put through.

Thanking You

Yours Truly

Jyoti Malik.

Re: [AI] My paragraph of the Day: Thank you Mr Narendra Modi for the ‘divyang’

2015-12-28 Thread manohar vaswani
dear avinash
the government is also indulging in false propaganda to justify the
use of divyang. today in the morning news at 8 A M there was a news
that the hearing impaired students of U P spent some time in
understanding the meaning of divyang and were elated after getting the
meaning of divyang and thanked the prime minister for this new label.
what a joke!

[AI] Got completely frustrated after appearing in UGC exam held on 27 december 2015

2015-12-28 Thread Jyoti
