Re: [AI] Accessibility of BSNL payment portal

2016-01-02 Thread Vamshi. G
Exactly. I too did that without knowing how! Thanks I have bank
account with more than one bank so that I could pay whichever bank
that gets selected. In fact, the popular banks like SBI are the ones
that are more difficult to select. The earlier version was very
accessible if we have web visum for the capcha.

Re: [AI] want to know about available places for scanning book for visually impaired

2016-01-02 Thread Mohib Anwar Rafay
You can take any HP scanner or Cannon scanner. There are basic and
advanced models available in market. As far as the scanning results
are concerns, both the scanners have more or less similar output, but
for me, speed of the scanner matters a lot. A scanner having faster
speed will cost you not less than 15,000 rupees, but if you can
compromise with the speed, you can take HP JET 3110, it has the speed
of 2 - 3 pages per minute, while former will scan 6 pages per minute.
Else you can take digital scanner like LexCam or ReadIt, it will cost
you around 40,000 rupees.

 Dear friends,

First of all, Thanks for your quick response. My intension is where
one can scan the book at cheapest price. Scanning a book which has
around 1000 page costs rs. 3000. I use to scan book for my CBSE UGC
NET preparation and other competitive exams. Not only for exam
purpose, out of my own interest I use to scan book for general reading
purpose. if one or two book the above mentioned cost is bearable but
I use to scan book more often. is there any standard rate
for scanning book for visually impaired. To be cost effective, I am
exploring what are all the option available for visually impaired to
scan books at cheapest price. Venkataraman Nagarajan sir mentioned
about worth trust for scanning book. My motive is what are all the
places or centers available for scanning book for visually impaired at
cheapest price And what the cost would be. With in a month I plan to
scan a books for upcoming exams.
 Thanking you

Re: [AI] My paragraph of the Day: Thank you Mr Narendra M odi for the ‘divyang’

2016-01-02 Thread Vedprakash
That proves my basic contention that it is the definition and not the word that
counts.
The list discussed different angles of the word divyang. Modi and BJP were held
responsible for the term by some of the members.
But nobody's bothered about the term itself.

If we are discussing the term 'divyang being suitable or not, let us also think
as to how much the term disabled suit to our cause.
If the word has to be changed, let us try to find the best option.
I have never been very comfortable with the word disabled.
It hurts somewhere within me. Have my abilities been discarded?
The term disabled looks opposite to the ablebodied.
It infers that there are two kinds of persons - those who have got some or the
other abilities and those who have not.
In this manner, the word Divyang is better than the word viklang. Viklang is
negative in its connotations while the word divyang gives a positive effect -
though a bit exaggerated.
Divyang is associated to some divinity which is not correct in actuality.
However, PM has proposed it and we are therefore discussing its good/bad
effects.
Therefore, let us try to find the best alternative to this.

Vedprakash,
word disabled is world over acceptable,
may be its not the best word,
however is there need for new word?

yes.
konkan railway is really making things accessable for us.
on my last trip via 10111 konkan kanya express to thivim which is just
before madgaon before karmali station first there was a bridge which
was worsed bridge just stepps and just mud slope at the end towords
platform which would crumble in rains.
now the bridge is nicely sloped not to steep so a weal chair can be
taken without any problem.

I think some NGOs like NAB, Mitra Jyoti can scan study books free of
cost and will include in their library for other students too.
If you require to scan books more than often, I would suggest you to
purchase one good scanner and can scan books by yourself whenever
needed.

Hi
At Mumbai, when the draft came to our possession, we at Blind Graduates
forum of India, took the lead to get all the NGO's across disability to
delibrate on every provision of the draft bill and sent our detailed
comments to the commission.
This I am stating merely to refresh the memory. We too closely kept
following eagerly to see the passage of the bill which seemed illusive and
presto the news broke, in a very dramatic way the bill did get through
without discussion, In some ways it seemed a setback, as no discussion was
done and it seemed an act of charity. Nevertheless, what matters was the
law
materialised after all.

Re: [AI] My paragraph of the Day: Thank you Mr Narendra M odi for the ‘divyang’

2016-01-02 Thread Vedprakash

Re: [AI] Download link of the book 20 stories of Change

2016-01-02 Thread harish

Nevertheless, what matters was the law
materialised after all.

I've read the 94 page book. Its a good job indeed. I'd like to make
some critical comments and observations.

1. The foreword to the book written by Mr Javed Abidi is very
engaging. However it would have been more engrossing if the details of
the drafting of the PWDA were provided to some extent. Who drafted the
Bill and were people with disabilities consulted? I'd like to draw
attention to a report published by IndiaToday on November 30 1988. It
read out
block quote
A draft bill prepared by the Ministry of Social Welfare - for
introduction in Parliament during the ongoing winter session -
incorporates many recommendations of the Baharul Islam Committee,
which had suggested in its report submitted on June 30 that the
Constitution be amended to reserve the following for handicapped
people:
Four per cent of government jobs at all levels.
Four per cent jobs in all public sector units.
Four per cent jobs in all private sector units with more than 100
employees.

Three per cent executive jobs in all private sector establishments
with over 100 employees.
Four per cent seats in all government colleges and schools.
http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/draft-bill-recommends-reservation-the-handicapped/1/330016.html
block quote end

2. The Editors' of the book note that the 20 stories from twenty
states are covered. However while reading the book one finds that more
than one stories from couple of states are featured. It is great to
see stories from J&K and the northeast are covered. Moreover, careful
reading of the book gives a feeling that The majority of stories in
the book were also given wide publicity in the media. All-in-all, its
a good collection.

The crux of most of these plans revolve around the same buzzwords:

are a few examples:

Rajkot: Sustainable, affordable, resilient and technology driven

Surat: Equal access to best quality physical and social infrastructure
and efficient mobility through state-of-the-art technology.

Dharamshala: To be a smart, sustainable and resilient city with a
global imprint and enhanced quality of life for its residents.
