Re: [AI] Requesting your suggestions to purchase a laptop

2016-04-27 Thread Austin Pinto
regarding the 64bit vs 32 bit fight on 64bit you can run all softwares
weather made for 32 bit or 64 bit.
32 bit is going slowly out of support
the only part that u must take care is if there are some softwares
made particularly for 32 or 64 bit you have to run the version of
software according to the bit.
e.g jaws 32 bit will not install on a 64 bit
some 32 bit antiviruses will not install on 64bit also for drivers
like chipset different drivers are available for 64 bit.
regarding the question by Bhavya for a new laptop the laptop that i
use and suggested doesnt have a dvd drive.
this has 2 or 3 benifits.
1. the laptop is thin and lite wait
2. 1 more less part that can fail.
3. you get some extra battery life as the part is not powered on at all.
yes dvd drives without disk go to standby but still some power is
taken by the opening arm the light and lence.
regarding no tension of slipping my suggested laptop has mat finished
just like moto g2 but its more rougher than that
on the cover and on the inside.
it also has a spill resistent keyboard and trackpad.
and speakers are just explosive loud.
when i went for the laptop i was scared as its for 19000 almost and in
so less what i will get but when i got the laptop i was shocked on
speed and features
but you will have to install windows on your own and also you have to
use wifi or usb 3g or lte dongle as there is no rj45 ithernet port or
you can get an external ithernet adaptor for about 200 on flipkart or
120 to 150 on shops in lamington road.
with the screen off i mean projected to a non existent second screen a
9hr battery backup is what you get.
however if you can tweek advance settings in windows u can extend to
10.3hrs to 11hrs and i have done that.

New DRM withdraws golf carts from station
TNN | Apr 28, 2016, 03.03 AM IST
Nagpur: The Vidarbha Taxpayers Association (VTA) on Wednesday urged the Central
Railway, Nagpur, to review its decision to close down battery operated
cars (golf carts) meant to transport the elderly and the disabled at Nagpur
railway station.

VTA secretary Tejinder Singh Renu submitted a memorandum to divisional railway
manager (DRM) BK Gupta. He said there was no safety issue with the carts.
Since these were battery operated, their speed was limited and they were
equipped with capable brakes. It was safer than the human pushed trolleys.

Renu pointed out that when trains are involved in accidents, the railways
doesn't withdraw trains. "To my knowledge, since inception over two years ago,
not a single mishap has occurred involving these cars," he said.

On the other hand Central Railway officials, who ordered the cars shut, said,
"We cannot wait for mishaps to happen." They insisted these cars posed risk
to passengers owing to growing congestion on platforms at Nagpur. "As suggested
by the department concerned, it is not advisable to operate them. The issue
has also reflected negatively in commissioner of railway safety (CRS)
inspections earlier," officials said.

The carts are likely to be closed down at other stations where these are
operating.

New DRM Gupta seems firm on the decision taken on his first day. Gupta, who was
chief safety officer (CSO) prior to joining here, seems to have considered
safety hazards in operating the carts. However, Renu said these carts were
donated by local NGOs and were needed considering many senior citizens and
patients
travelling through Nagpur station. "The DRM should reassess the safety aspects
and restart the facility as it is a humanitarian service," he added.

Re: [AI] Want to convert multiple PDFs using Abby find reader

2016-04-27 Thread Himanshu Sahu
Hi Ekenath,
"1. Upon opening fine reader, how do I select multiple files?
By selecting them while browsing for opening?
"2. Or keep selecting and
then pressing open button on one after the other? (Jaws does not
 announce the selected list)"

Ans: 1. As Rahul suggested, it would be easier to keep all files (if
files are multiples) at one place (folder, and after opening fine
reader, go to (control+o) this particular folder and press control+A
for selecting all files in one go.
2. Say in one folder there are multiple files, and u want to select
only few of them, go to that particular folder, select only desired
files by using control and arrow keys (you need to press "space" for
selecting those which are to be converted). Then hit enter here only
and files will be selected and opened.
Or,
suppose multiple files are located at different folders, here you need
to open fine reader, press control+o and select (hitting enter) first
file by browsing, then again press control+o and go to the location of
other file and do the same. this you can do for multiple files.
In this situation all files would be open in sequence and after
recognising, all will be in chronological order.

3. When should I press control+shift+r?
Immediately after the open button pressed, or after pages are listed
 like 1,2,3,4, …"
Ans: when all files are open, you should perform this command.
However, as I said earlier, if auto recogniser is by default enabled
in setting, after opening files, fine reader will automatically start
recognising files. Even if you perform this command separately for
multiple files, there should not be any problem. Remember that
control+r is command for recognising one file and control+shift+r for
multiple files.

"Lastly, Sorry but I did not understand this command- alt+f+e, do you
meand press alt+f and then e or something else. Do you mean a function
 key otherwise?"
Ans: I meant, simply press first control, second, f, thirdly, e, and
finally w for word, e for excel, A for pdf etc...
Hope this helps!

Re: [AI] Guidance on V look up

2016-04-27 Thread Radha
Hello Sir,

Excel vlookup function has shortcut keys? intriguing, sorry I"m
unaware of it. May be anyone here can help us out.

Perhaps my usage of vlookup to extract info will serve your purpose.
Let us assume, you need a particular column data to be matched and
retrieve in another new sheet of your excel For instance, simple one,
branch name with branch code.
You have a file(named as "Ajit" with all data like branch name,
branch chief name, phone number, branch code, assets(loans) for a
particular month, powers of sanction, etc .
Here I have stated 6 column with respected column title. so branch
name will take the place in A1, branch chief name in B1, phone number
in C1, branch code in D1, etc.
Now, another file(named as"shahruk") with many info except branch
code. Here we need the branch code, let's assume.
Both files(ajit and shahruk) contains the branch name( exact names),
this is our matching criteria.

Hence we are going to retrieve branch code from Ajit to shahruk using
"branch name".

step 1
Take shahruk file(or sheet), then insert a column after branch name
or any where in the sheet.(I assume besides branch name)
Ps: branch name in shahruk file is in A1 column
step 2:
take the Ajit file aside
step 3:
in shahruk file we need branch code in column b1. place the focus in
the empty cell, then type "+"(or "=") and type vlookup( then with the
help of right arrow keys select the A1 cell then put a comma again
"alt tab to switch between ajit sheet, then select entire data
starting from branch name of ajit file A1. Again continue with the
formula, by putting "comma", then 4 then comma, 0and then close the
brackets.
you're formula should read like this in shahruk,
+vlookup(a1,sheetAjit!sheet1!a1$:h345$,4,0)
explaination:

+vlookup(

What to find.

a1 represents what we want to find in shahruk file always it will
contain the exact match found in both files like ajit and shahruk's
branch name)

select using right arrow(in the same file)

next after comma
>From where to search

the file in which we want to find the exact match, so always start
from the exact comman info found in both files(here branch name in
both ajit as well as shahruk)

select using "shift +end plus left arrow and down arrow

excel will automatically take the selected area.

again comma

what information to retrieve

we need branch code which is found in the fourth column of ajit file
so used numeral 4

you can use what ever column number data here.

comma again

exact or approximate value

if we give 0 then vlookup pools the exact match else the approx

this approx may be useful in numeric values.

 then close the brackets )

Hope we are done with. Please assure that the excel sheet is always
maximised and if you got any error then try it in new sheet.

inDelhi University

  Hi everyone,

I'm looking for students who have taken their exams on a computer at
Delhi University. The university is denying my friend the permission
to take the exam on a computer on the grounds that no student has ever
requested this accommodation before, which I am certain is not true.
So, anyone who has actually taken the exam, or has more experience
with this, please reach out to me off the list.

  Best,

2016-04-27 Thread Prashant Verma
Dear Kartik,
Shramistha has also given a few exams using the computer.
The Braille Library in DU North Campus used to be the exam centre for blind
candidates.
You may write to Dr. Anil Aneja and Bipin Tiwari of EOC.
Email: e...@du.ac.in
If that does not work out, ask that person to contact me.

Thanks,
Prashant

Kartik,
Many years ago I think Vipin Malhotra had given some exams on computer- ask
Vipin who is not on the group I think or ask Dipendra.
Take examples of other Univs-Anjali -Anamalai and Amar Jain-Bombay
University.
Use UNCRPD and Accessible India campaign.
Its DU's problem not yours to find precedent.

Not surprising. Let's consider if there were none who requested before, why
can't they have this student as a first one?

2016-04-27 Thread Arjun Malhotra
Please ignore the earlier mail. Woes of touchscreen mobiles.
Anyways. Tell your friend to contact EOC or enabling unit of the college.
You can refer to guidelines for scribe from the following link:
http://eoc.du.ac.in/29042014EOCGuidelines.pdf

I second Kanchan ma'am there is no need of finding precedents. Taking
exam through computer is per se his/er right.

2016-04-27 Thread Arjun Malhotra
Tell your friend to contact Equal Opportunity Cell of University of
Delhi. On EOC website you can also find scribe guidelines. The website
address is eoc.du.ac.in
Its clearly provided in the guidelines that one can make use of
computer to take one's exam.
Exactly who has refused, is it the college or uni?

Re: [AI] Universities do little to enable the disabled

2016-04-27 Thread Dhananjay Bhole
National assessment and acridatation counsil (NAAC) should make
institutional built infrastructure accessibility, web services
accessibility, cource content accessibility and course dilevery
mechanism accessibility compulsory while acriditation. Also MHRD and
concern government agencies should make accessibility compulsory for
academic institutions. Then only academic institutions will think
about making barrier free campus.

MSJE also Enforce the same for academic institutions through
Accessible India Campaign. They already have several schemes such as
SIPDA for accessibility implementations.

Since last 6 years we are trying to make our campus services
accessible for persons with disabilities. But Athorities are not
understanding its importance. They never deny for accessibility
implementation but never do any thing. We are providing access
consulting services outside and helping other organizations. But
unfortunately we could not yet make our buildings or web portal
accessible.

Each one of us take opportunity to organize accessibility awareness
programs on Global accessibility awareness day and try to convince
athorities. That may change the seen at some places.

We are organizing workshop on web accessibility for our web
development team on 16th may and will try to make our some
applications accessibility compliant. Just a small effert to
commemorate Global accessibility awareness day.

That's it, save new file to desired location...

Hi Ekinath,

Save all the files to be converted in a folder.

Press "control O"

Reach the files in that perticular folder and press "Control A" and hit "enter".

You would be able to read the files and save depending on where you
want to save.

You are done.

Trust that helps.

Thanks and warm regards,

Rahul.

Hi Himanshu,

Thank you for your reply, but I am unable to do it. Could you please
clarify following?

Upon opening fine reader, how do I select multiple files?
By selecting them while browsing for opening? Or keep selecting and

When should I press control+shift+r?
Immediately after the open button pressed, or after pages are listed
