Dear Access Indians,

The Envision Research Institute (https://research.envisionus.com) is
seeking candidates for a two-year post-doc Fellowship on policy &
employment of blind and visually impaired people. This fellowship is
fully funded by the National Industries for the Blind (NIB)!

Our goal at Envision Research Institute is to restore function to the

the functional implications of vision loss, early screening and access
to treatments, optimizing rehabilitation therapies and developing
accessibility technology. With this fellowship, we are broadening our
efforts.

Research goals for this fellowship include identifying new areas of
professional growth for people who are blind or visually impaired,
forecast the impact of social trends, population and demographic
shifts in the USA, and technological advancement that might be
possible for people who are blind and visually impaired (BVI) in the
workforce of the future.

This fellowship is an exciting opportunity for a young researcher!
To this end, would you, or any of your colleagues, have an interest in
being a mentor for this post-doctoral Policy & Employment Fellowship
and have a PhD student looking to start a post doc in 2018?

this platform? in this regard I would like to tell you that the
atachments are not allow in this platform but you can share the link

2018-02-15 Thread gopala krishna
sir, this information taken from deccanherald paper.
please read this happy news below.

BEML delivers the first intermediate Metro car unit for Namma Metro,
in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
The Union government's proposal for 'strategic stake sale' in Public
Sector Udertaking (PSU) Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) has been
deferred.
"Efforts will be made to ensure that it won't happen,'' Union
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said here on Wednesday.
Speaking at an event organised for formal handover of intermediate
Metro cars to BMRCL, Kumar said he that has spoken to Defence Minister
Nirmala Sitharaman and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in this regard.
Noting that BEML plays a major role in defence sector as well as
indigenisation of key technology required for transport systems like
Metro and suburban rail, the minister said, "The finance minister has
agreed that BEML should continue as a public sector company."
Kumar said he would urge Railway Minister Piyush Goyal to award all
tenders for railway coaches to BEML.
"BEML's Bengaluru, KGF and Palakkad units should grow to become the
technology hub for making Metro and railway coaches in the country. I
will bring the railway minister for a visit to show him the company's
technological prowess," he said, requesting the Chief Managing
Director of BEML Deepak Kumar Hota to prepare a concept note in this
regard.
HAL airport
Kumar said he has held discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi,
Civil Aviation Minister Jayant Sinha as well as Chief Minister
Siddaramiah to turn HAL airport into Maintenance, Repair and
Overhauling (MRO) Centre.
"At present, our planes are going to the US, Singapore and other
foreign countries for MRO facilities. Being an aerospace technology
capital, Bengaluru should have such a facility. The HAL airport should
become a such a hub," he said.

[AI] 4th Anniversary - Good News from talkingatmindia.org

2018-02-15 Thread Xavier's Resource Centre for the Visuall St. Xavier's College
Dear Friends,

Accessible ATMs in India were introduced with the launch of Truly Talking ATM's
in 2012 by a public-sector bank Union Bank of India. Today, six years down the
line we are pleased to share that more than 25 banks both public and private
sector have submitted data of accessible ATM's with us. XRCVC is working on
accessible ATM's and inclusive banking since 2008 at various levels. With our
efforts and through Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) support we are in receipt
of large number of accessible ATM locations as high as 55,000+.

Today is a special day for the Talking ATM India website
(https://talkingatmindia.org)
which went live on 15 February 2014. The website was launched during the
Access India Convention at New Delhi in 2014. We thank both Mr. Prashant Naik
and Saidarshan Bhagat for their pioneering work for this ATM locator.

We are glad to announce that since 2017 this website is owned and run by XRCVC.
The founders Prashant Naik and Saidarshan Bhagat of the accessible ATM locator
website service are actively associated with the website and continuing their
voluntary service with us. The locator mobile app is not in our ownership.

On this anniversary day of
https://talkingatmindia.org
we have uploaded latest locations data from very few banks. This is a fresh
12000+ locations database on the site. We will be uploading databases phase
wise as well as other new features. ATM locations data is directly shared by
the banks to IBA during the period October-December 2017. We have uploaded few
banks data which we found having the talking ATM transaction workflow in
compliance to IBA Standard on talking ATM.

New developments are happening on the ATM channel front such as touch screen
ATM's, ATM Bank, etc. As before, XRCVC is engaged in providing accessibility
inputs and user tests to banks and vendors.

With this positive news and sharing of such a large number of talking ATM's
deployments in our country we hope now many visually impaired friends will use
the facility regularly. We are happy to run accessible Talking ATM locator
website service
https://talkingatmindia.org

Kindly reply to a...@xrcvc.org for your comments and feedback.

Best Regards,

Dr. Sam Taraporevala

Director, XRCVC
