Re: [AI] SBI insists on bringing witness for cash withdrawal

2018-07-07 Thread Akash Gupta
hi friends,

some bank allow to account holders including blind person to authorise
any next to kin for doing operations like cash withdrawal and signing
of cheques in his account. But I am countinuously in touch with my
home branch to allow me this facility but they answered me that they
are unaware about it.

Witness is generally insisted upon. And because its a non-home branch,
they are also not able to verify thumb impression as the image is with
 the home branch.

2018-07-07 Thread Preeti Monga
Hi friends! Great subject! This is mostly put away as far as visually
impaired people are concerened!

Well said Alok! You have put this so very nicely!

Just interact more and look for someone who can be your best friend and
she/he may be the right personn for you to marry. But, one has to start some
time! You have to start to take the risk, so if someone feels right to you,
just go ahead and ask her/him! It may or may not work out! If it works then
great, and if it doesn't work, then just part ways and try again!

But, please do not marry a disability or a non disability, marry a human
being! There is more chances for it to work if you marry a human
being...rather than if you marry a qualification etc!

There are great people out there and don't get into a box yourself and try
to drag others into the box as well.

Have fun and get married! It is a completely new world and worth
experienceing!

Hi Vamshi,
Here is my take on this subject. These views are in a wider context and
not specific to any individual. You' in this mail refers to everyone
thinking about this and not just you.

You need to ask yourself some basic questions.

1. What is your reason for getting married? Is this reason strong enough to
provide the basis of a good relationship?
Many blind people are looking for sighted partners. While this may bring
some practical convenience for one person, it does not form a strong basis
for a healthy marital relationship. Marriages are bound to go through their
phases over a period of time, and preparing oneself to be dependent on one
person is a recipe for disaster.

2. What is it that you will bring to the relationship?
Most of us have an idea about what kind of person we are looking for and how
we would like them to be involved in our lives, but have we given enough
thought about what we would be adding to the relationship? Does that makes
the relationship more balanced?

3. If we are primarily looking for a companionship for long term, are these
channels of bringing unknown people together good enough sources to ensure
that you will get the companionship that you are looking for?
Best would be to increase your sphere of interaction and observe what
naturally evolves and appeals. And if someone appeals, have the courage to
express that, even if it is at the cost of risking the relationship.

Marriage and job have a lot of similarities. Some organizations may have a
bias against hiring people with disability while others may have better
inclusion and diversity policy. Even though 10 options may not work out, at
the end of it you need just one job, and likewise you need just one good
relationship to carry on. There are employers who hire disabled people and
then do not use them to be an equally participating and productive
individuals. There could be a similar situation in a marriage, and that is
definitely not a desirable one.

We overly emphasize on our disability. There are many other aspects in a
person that could make a person appealing enough to someone who is able to
recognize and value them. After a while disability becomes less important
and how you are as a person becomes fundamental.

While social sensitization is essential, it is a long drawn approach, and
may or may not result in a significant transformation during the timeframe
that you may be interested in. So far we have not even been able to
convince people within the visually impaired community that it is alright
to marry a person with disability, even though they may have seen two
individuals with disability leading a reasonably decent married life.

While we can intend to bring about a change in the world, actually we cannot
change anyone other than ourselves.

Thanks.
Alok

[AI] Ai Partaking in informal groups/ activities at the workplace

2018-07-07 Thread turab chimthanawala
Hi all,
Hope this message finds you well.
While over the years I have come a long way in making friends with
blindness and hence built a good social network. I am comfortable in
most settings and even don't mind questions on my disability.
However, I have found it difficult to fully absorb in informal groups/
activities at office. This may range from hjoining in for lunch to
going down for tea in the court canteen to going for outings and to
simply joining in jokes while working. I get the necessary support/
cooperation to do my work but I believe offices are beyond just work.
I understand that due to disability people are not best equipped to
understand our needs and problems and that we have to take the first
step, but to what extent! I mean I generally find it difficult to gage
people's expressions and hence am slightly circumspect in the
beginning. At a recent internship at a huge firm with about 100
professionals I was lonely most of the time save for a colleague, now
a close friend. To the extent that when she would be absent, the
others would never invite me for lunch. It was only after a month that
others became warm.
Currently I am working with an Advocate. Here as well despite knowing
me (as I interned earlier), a colleague personally invited all but me
to his house. Even here there is a senior who is warm but owing to
personal commitments she is quite irregular and hence, except for work
related talk I am mostly left alone.
With most humility I would point out that I am a very warm person and
many have said that they enjoy my company. But due to some reason I am
left out of most informal activities at office.
Eagerly await others' experiences/ inputs on the same.
Thanking you
Best
Turab

you need to undergo a minimum of 8 courses of intensive treatment for rp
cure at sreedhareeyam. By taking one time treatment, don't expect results.
Although its upto the individuals to opt for the treatment, I have seen the
patients who have been cured of their RP in their hospital. Ayurvedic
treatments are timetaking.

[AI] watch your questions to get the right answer

2018-07-07 Thread Kanchan Pamnani
Very interesting but not directly connected with us. Harish forgive!

JEE(ADV): Give preference to those who answered with decimals, says HC

* The Times of India (Mumbai edition)

* 6 Jul 2018

*

Chennai: Candidates of JEE (advanced) who have answered in exact numerical
value in decimal notation, rounding off to second decimal place, must get
preference over candidates who answered by rounding off values to one
decimal point or without any decimal notation, Madras HC has ruled.

Justice S Vaidhyanathan passed the order, allowing a plea moved by L Lakshmi
Sree, after it was brought to the HC's notice that the original instructions
given to candidates who wrote the exam on May 20 was that they must answer
in correct numerical value in decimal notation rounded off to the second
decimal place. It was made clear that full marks would be given only if
answered as per the instructions.

The petitioner said that as per the instructions, she had spent quality time
to answer the questions by entering correct numerical value in decimal
notation rounding off to second decimal. However, some of the candidates,
without reading the instructions carefully, had answered with one decimal
point or without any decimal notation, she added.

Subsequently, the authorities concerned made a clarification on their
website stating that "if an answer is the integer 11, all the answered
entered as 11, 11.0, or 11.00 will be correct."

The petitioner wrote to the authorities on June 1 stating that awarding
marks to candidates who did not strictly follow the original instructions
would adversely affect marks and ranks of those who had strictly followed
the instructions spending valuable time. Since there was no reply from the
authorities, she was cosntrained to approach the court.

Admitting the plea on June 7, the court passed an interim order allowing the
authorities to evaluate papers only based on original instructions and if
evaluation was made based on the clarification, allotment of seats should
not be made till further orders.

When the petition was taken up for final hearing on Monday, the authorities
argued that evaluation in both ways would not alter the total number of
candidates selected. The judge allowed the plea noting that by giving
preference to candidates like the petitioner, the total number of candidates
who had been selected were not going to be affected, instead, their rankings
alone would change.

The

Central Board of Secondary Education and 28 state and other education boards

for students with disabilities in education and examination. The boards,
NGOs, disability rights activists, students with special needs, special
educators and 50 school principals from across the country discussed the
contours of such a policy on Wednesday in Delhi. The recommendations would
be presented to the government in the final report to help frame a policy

Re: [AI] Efforts towards matrimonial pursuit for blind; Suggestions invited

2018-07-07 Thread Alok Kaushik
Hi Vamshi,
Here is my take on this subject. These views are in a wider context and not
specific to any individual. You' in this mail refers to everyone thinking about
this and not just you.

You need to ask yourself some basic questions.

1. What is your reason for getting married? Is this reason strong enough to
provide the basis of a good relationship?
Many blind people are looking for sighted partners. While this may bring some
practical convenience for one person, it does not form a strong basis for a
healthy marital relationship. Marriages are bound to go through their phases
over a period of time, and preparing oneself to be dependent on one person is a
recipe for disaster.

2. What is it that you will bring to the relationship?
Most of us have an idea about what kind of person we are looking for and how we
would like them to be involved in our lives, but have we given enough thought
about what we would be adding to the relationship? Does that makes the
relationship more balanced?

3. If we are primarily looking for a companionship for long term, are these
channels of bringing unknown people together good enough sources to ensure that
you will get the companionship that you are looking for?
Best would be to increase your sphere of interaction and observe what naturally
evolves and appeals. And if someone appeals, have the courage to express that,
even if it is at the cost of risking the relationship.

Marriage and job have a lot of similarities. Some organizations may have a bias
against hiring people with disability while others may have better inclusion
and diversity policy. Even though 10 options may not work out, at the end of it
you need just one job, and likewise you need just one good relationship to
carry on. There are employers who hire disabled people and then do not use them
to be an equally participating and productive individuals. There could be a
similar situation in a marriage, and that is definitely not a desirable one.

We overly emphasize on our disability. There are many other aspects in a person
that could make a person appealing enough to someone who is able to recognize
and value them. After a while disability becomes less important and how you are
as a person becomes fundamental.

While social sensitization is essential, it is a long drawn approach, and may
or may not result in a significant transformation during the timeframe that
you may be interested in. So far we have not even been able to convince people
within the visually impaired community that it is alright to marry a person
with disability, even though they may have seen two individuals with
disability leading a reasonably decent married life.

While we can intend to bring about a change in the world, actually we cannot
change anyone other than ourselves.

Thanks.
Alok

Subject: [AI] Efforts towards matrimonial pursuit for blind; Suggestions invited

Dear friends,

I, as someone gradually loosing vision, have been in pursuit of a girl for
marriage for the past few years. But as everyone knows, blindness presents its
own obvious limitations and societal misperceptions due to which it becomes
difficult to find success.

I found success on Access India for many issues like coping with blindness,
technology, legal provisions, independent living etc. Now, I would like to
invite suggestions from my dear Access Indian friends on this issue.

The following are the channels available :

1. Traditional channels like marriage fairs, matrimonial sites, etc.

2. Special on line channels like ability matrimony, Inclov, etc.

3. Special get togethers organised by Inclov, Radio Udaan, voice vision, etc.

4. References from close circles, especially from those associated with blind
friends.

I already contacted some of my friends on Access India who are helping me out.
And I found this channel to be most fruitful as they are more empathetic
towards fellow blind friend. Now, I would like to invite suggestions from
members of this forum on this issue. Please share your experiences, strategies
you have adopted, any new ideas, etc.

Please feel free to write on the forum as it would help others like me. But if
you have something to discuss privately, write/call me on the contact details
provided in the signature line.

As they say, "An idea can change your life". Hoping for such life changing
ideas!(smile)

earning / employed disabled child as ATM machines, specially daughters.
at any circumstances if one could not get married, my question is what is
wrong in live in relationship? doesn't it fulfil the mental and physical

the disabled.
Subject: Re: [AI] Efforts towards matrimonial pursuit for blind; Suggestions

Thanks for bringing this up.

The challenges associated with matrimony are many.

Let’s start with ourselves:

1. Importance: we do not give enough importance to the institution of
marriage to begin with. As a general observation, you will note that while
many of us have well established careers, but many of us get married at a
very late age.

2. Skillset: for those of us who have lived in families, do not acquire the
skills of independent living, which is why even parents feel that marriage
for adults with disabilities is not of utmost importance.

3. Expectations: whether to marry with someone with same, different or no
disability, is thought pattern driven, but there are a lot of expectations
which need to be revisited.

Many of us think that once we are absolutely financially independent, it is
only then we would consider marriage. Now unless you know how to mint money,
financial independence does not come too quickly. Your career and your
family both can run together provided you are financially capable of running
the family. So it isn’t necessary to be financially well off, what is needed
is the capability to earn.

4. Extra dependence on families: many of us want to choose partners in a
nearby locality, because we feel that in case of any situation, we can run
to our families.

An important aspect to keep in mind here is that you are not starting your
family based on your dependence on your parents / siblings’s families.
Therefore, we must have the approach to deal with situations without
limiting ourselves to the support of our families.

5. Protection: many feel that the chances of being cheated are higher
because of disability, and what will happen if the marriage breaks down.

If you are destined to be deserted, then you have to face it, and that has
got absolutely nothing to do with disability. In that situation, you have to
support your living, and people will look at you no different than they look
at others in those situations.

6. Fear from living alone: many of us especially girls feel that living
alone exposes them to greater risks. That holds true for everyone. Unless
you are not compitent to understand that where the lines have to be drawn,
who needs to be invited home and what are the areas he should be allowed
access too, you do not invite more risk than any other person. The fact that
someone can render you incapable because of your disability can be overcome
with training on self defence.

Let’s talk of parents and other stakeholders:

1. The fact that we do not consider the institution of marriage important,
results into they giving no thought and us having no discussions with them.

2. Success stories have not worked with majority of the parents and others.
It is ultimately you, who has to take a step.

3. We must, when need arises, put a full stop when parents and others start
excessive protection and care for us. For example, many parents who even
think of getting their kids settled, think that they will get a guy or a
girl who may not be educated or match with you, but just for the sake of
their protectionist attitude, they are willing to make your marriage a
compromise. This needs to be changed by us.

4. Mindset: this is perhaps where you need inputs. My experience suggests
that you can only try to convince someone, and all you can do is to have
absolute clarity about the smallest challenges which others have faced. This
helps in demonstrating your own awareness. Whether that changes mindset’s or
not, is beyond your control.

Methods: I have not found one method to be full proof.

Networking both online and offline has proven to be most effective.

Platforms and events for matrimony are developing gradually. Right now, you
don’t see too many people taking benefits of the events and the platforms.

Portals and apps exist but you will find that majority of profiles are
incomplete, inaccurate and people don’t even visit / respond to the
interests received.

Trust this adds value to the discussion.

Regards,
Amar Jain

To answer your question, you can contact Innovision or Prathamesh if you
would like to purchase the BrailleMe.
If you lookover this topic you should be able to get their contact info and
the like.

From what I remember when the brailleMe came out, it was around 25k plus
gst, so around 26130 or there abouts.
But if you contact any of them 2, you ought to be able to get a price.

Re: [AI] Efforts towards matrimonial pursuit for blind; Suggestions invited

2018-07-07 Thread Amar Jain
Thanks for bringing this up.

The challenges associated with matrimony are many.

Let’s start with ourselves:

1. Importance: we do not give enough importance to the institution of marriage
to begin with. As a general observation, you will note that while many of us
have well established careers, but many of us get married at a very late age.

2. Skillset: for those of us who have lived in families, do not acquire the
skills of independent living, which is why even parents feel that marriage for
adults with disabilities is not of utmost importance.

Your career and your family
both can run together provided you are financially capable of running the
family. So it isn’t necessary to be financially well off, what is needed is the
capability to earn.

4. Extra dependence on families: many of us want to choose partners in a nearby
locality, because we feel that in case of any situation, we can run to our
families.

An important aspect to keep in mind here is that you are not starting your
family based on your dependence on your parents / siblings’s families.
Therefore, we must have the approach to deal with situations without limiting
ourselves to the support of our families.

5. Protection: many feel that the chances of being cheated are higher because
of disability, and what will happen if the marriage breaks down.

If you are destined to be deserted, then you have to face it, and that has got
absolutely nothing to do with disability. In that situation, you have to
support your living, and people will look at you no different than they look at
others in those situations.

6. Fear from living alone: many of us especially girls feel that living alone
exposes them to greater risks. That holds true for everyone. Unless you are not
compitent to understand that where the lines have to be drawn, who needs to be
invited home and what are the areas he should be allowed access too, you do not
invite more risk than any other person. The fact that someone can render you
incapable because of your disability can be overcome with training on self
defence.

Let’s talk of parents and other stakeholders:

1. The fact that we do not consider the institution of marriage important,
results into they giving no thought and us having no discussions with them.

2. Success stories have not worked with majority of the parents and others. It
is ultimately you, who has to take a step.

3. We must, when need arises, put a full stop when parents and others start
excessive protection and care for us. For example, many parents who even think
of getting their kids settled, think that they will get a guy or a girl who may
not be educated or match with you, but just for the sake of their protectionist
attitude, they are willing to make your marriage a compromise. This needs to be
changed by us.

4. Mindset: this is perhaps where you need inputs. My experience suggests that
you can only try to convince someone, and all you can do is to have absolute
clarity about the smallest challenges which others have faced. This helps in
demonstrating your own awareness. Whether that changes mindset’s or not, is
beyond your control.

Methods: I have not found one method to be full proof.

Networking both online and offline has proven to be most effective.

Platforms and events for matrimony are developing gradually. Right now, you
don’t see too many people taking benefits of the events and the platforms.

Portals and apps exist but you will find that majority of profiles are
incomplete, inaccurate and people don’t even visit / respond to the interests
received.

Trust this adds value to the discussion.

Amar Jain
