[AI] New employment policy

2020-09-07 Thread Harish

Hi All

I tried to look for the notification on the new employment policy on the
net. I believe we will have to look at it closely and gear ourselves to
it. I found some write ups and new report. If anyone is having it,
please share it.

We shall also have to see the scribe policy etc.

Regards

Harish Kotian

2020-09-07 Thread Ajay Minocha
Hello sir,

I use an HP convertible laptop which means it can flip 360 degrees to
become like a touch screen Tablet. Although Jaws, NVDA and Narrator
have detailed gestures to interact with a touch screen but I don't
think that windows as an OS is completely optimized to be used with
touch screen. For example, you may have to swipe quite a lot of times
to reach a particular item which is generally very fast with a
keyboard. Touch screen is only helpful if you encounter an application
where screen reader focus isn't properly moving with the keyboard and
you are required to click by exploring the application which is a very
rare case in my view.

HTH,
Ajay

RE: [AI] Launch of Kibo XS Device Page

2020-09-07 Thread Dr. R S Chauhan
Dear Mr. Baghel,

I bought the device some months back. My experiences with the device were
discouraging. It could neither scan properly nor read the magazine pages having
even two columns nor books of smaller page size, whatever way I kept it under
the scanner. Moreover, even if it scanned a few pages from a book, it added a
few lines which were not available on the page or left some of its lines. Of
course, it was unable to inform contents of a table. You know, all the
magazines have at least two c columns to a page and many books do have some
tables.

I came to know that you have given some updates to improve its functioning. If
so, please send the same to me, if you think it can solve my problems and serve
as an instrument to read current journals and books.

Thanking you,

Faithfully yours,

(Dr. R.S. Chauhan)

[AI] City boy defies cerebral palsy and dyslexia, makes it to IIM

2020-09-07 Thread Kanchan Pamnani
City boy defies cerebral palsy and dyslexia, makes it to IIM

Times of India 08-09-2020

isha.j...@timesgroup.com

Lucknow:

He needs the services of a scribe to take written examinations. He limps
but dares to travel by local train in Mumbai. His speech is slurred but his
emotions convey his thoughts with utmost clarity.

If you thought cracking CAT was challenging, 21-year-old Yash Avadhesh
Gandhi’s journey to IIM-Lucknow should count as an epic story of triumph
against all odds.

Yash has cerebral palsy, dyslexia and dysarthria, a condition that weakens
the muscles we need for speech. But none of these conditions could prevent
him from acing CAT-2019 with a percentile score of 92.5.

Making it to IIM-Lucknow under the persons with disabilities quota for the
academic session 2020-22, the gritty and gregarious Mumbaikar couldn’t be
happier. “I am delighted to be a part of IIM-L,” Yash, who has been
attending online classes from home since last month, told TOI.

Yash had started preparing for CAT in July 2018, when he was still in the
second year of his graduation course. “I face problems with numbers. So, I
had to put in extra effort, particularly in the quantitative ability
section. It was tough but not impossible,” he said.

His hard work and perseverance paid off when he got interview calls from
top IIMs, except Bangalore. He got offers from Kozhikode and Indore, but
chose Lucknow because it is ranked higher.

Yash Gandhi almost broke down while studying for CAT, but went on to
feature in the 92.5 percentile

Yash’s parents are his support system

Yash’s parents are his support system. “When he joined school, he faced
difficulty learning and wasn’t able to compete with his peers. But he
picked up gradually. He has always had to work harder than normal
children,” Yash’s father Avadhesh Gandhi, who works in a private firm, said.

While studying for CAT, there came a point when Yash was so depressed that
he almost decided to give up. “I told him that he has the capability to do
anything. After this, Yash started all over again,” said his mother
Jignasha, who works as a supervisor in a kitchen where midday school meals
are cooked.

The young man has a special place in his heart for his mentor and
“spiritual brother”, Harshit Hindocha. “His (Yash) success is a perfect
story of grit and commitment. Always calm and composed, he never gives up
easily. Even when I exempted him from taking notes due to his writing
issues, he would always jot down points,” Harshit said. Before joining IIM,
Yash had joined Mumbai’s Mithibai College for his graduation with
specialisation in accounting and finance. He was among the top five in his
class.

Belagavi: An online campaign by a 29 - year - old visually impaired clerk from
Belagavi has nudged Google to include Kannada in the Text - to Speech ( TTS )
Android platform, helping thousands to access content spoken in their mother
tongue.
When Google introduced TTS system, it came up with English, Hindi, Bengali and
other language options but Kannada was left out.
Siddalingeshwar Ingalgi of Bailhongal taluk, who works as a second division
assistant at the rural development and panchayat raj department, launched an
online petition in April 2017, urging netizens to sign up and push for
inclusion of Kannada.
He also wrote to Google India, saying the people of Karnataka shouldn't be left
out. " Initially when I wrote to Go ogle and started the campaign, there was no

the TST platform in November 2019. It became available to the general public in
February this year. " Ilost my vision in early childhodd due to a nerve
condition and took this up as a challenge. This has changed everything for the
visually - challenged who speak Kannada. We can access all manner of content,
including journals and novels, " he said.
In July, deputy chief minister Ashwath Narayan lauded Siddalingeshwar for his
efforts. Nagaraj M, president of National Federation for The Blind, said before
Google introduced TST, people with vision difficulty had to pay Rs 1,000 to buy
the vocaliser software.
" It also had several problems and it was always difficult to use. Now, with
the effort of Siddalingeshwar, we have TST which is making li ves easy. First
we do not have to pay and secondly, the pronunciation is very clear to
understand, " he said.

the petition, it grabbed the attention of the decision - makers in the company,
” said Siddalingeshwar
The campaign at that time, on Change.org, received more than 3,300 virtual
signatures. Acknowledging the demand, Google executives in India introduced
Kannada on google tts.

Dear Sir,1) I am sure it provides the output in the right order everytime.
>From top to bottom for regular documents in all languages and even handwritten
text. If you are facing any issue in than it would be great if you can share
the sample file in which this issue is there. One of our teammate will resolve
this issue as soon as possible.2) As metioned previously as of now, Kibo XS
device doesn't support multi-column text and Tables currently. Our team is
already working on adding these functionalities. I cannot comment on when it
will be available as it is still in R&D.Warm Regards,Abhishek Baghel On

Baghel, I bought the device some months back. My experiences with the device
were  discouraging. It could neither scan properly nor read the magazine pages
having even two columns nor books of smaller page size, whatever way I kept it
under the scanner. Moreover, even if it scanned a few pages from a book, it
added a few lines which were not available on the page or left some of its
lines. Of course, it was unable to inform contents of a table. You know, all
the magazines have at least two c columns to a page and many books do have some
tables.  I came to know that you have given some updates to improve its
functioning. If so, please send the same to me, if you think it can solve my
problems and serve as an instrument to read current journals and books.
