But as for the HDFC Mobile application, they have this really silly

I had tested it while it is in beta and it looks cool.
Not sure whether they have added any new gestures.
When Braille screen input is turned on, its interface will be completely
different and it has its own gestures.

Well I don't know anything of Braille but the discussion did interest me.

I searched and found that the keyboard started from Talkback v 88.2. My phone
released last year and it has exactly the same version. One can find 'Braille

Here is a very detailed video:

Yes it came built in with Talkback very recently.

Please make sure that you have the latest talkback is installed on your phone.

I'm sorry I cannot be precise since I do not have An android device.

Before also there were some third party utilities but you would need to turn
off your talkback when you activate the Braille keypad.

But now since Google is integrated within Talkback itself, you do not have to
turn off your talkback.

Indeed you can type very fast using soft Braille and certainly I'm against of
having an exclusive hardware only forsake of typing.

If you can type in Braille then having an ios or Android device is sufficed.

I'm replying to your mail using Braille screen input only.

Even you can type your complicated passwords!

Also you can use any punctuation/numbers/capitalisation in the same rhythmic
typing.

That is a good question. That also reflects the diverse thinking in the sector.
Most non blind tech professionals think of braille when they think of blind
and visually impaired persons. Strictly my personal view- this gives a
continuance to exclusive technology for the blind.

CAUTION: This email is originated from outside Canara Bank. Do not click any

Also you can use any punctuation/numbers/capitalisation in the same rhythmic
typing.

Yes it came built in with Talkback very recently.
Please make sure that you have the latest talkback is installed on your phone.
I'm sorry I cannot be precise since I do not have An android device.
Before also there were some third party utilities but you would need to turn
off your talkback when you activate the Braille keypad.
But now since Google is integrated within Talkback itself, you do not have to
turn off your talkback.

but, I wonder why do we need to type in braille when we have the normal
keyboards fairly accessible?
doesn't it delay the process?
to type an S in braille for example, one has to press three dots.
the normal keyboard gives the ability to type it with a single key.
educate me if I am wrong.

CAUTION: This email is originated from outside Canara Bank. Do not click any
links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know that the
content is safe.

Dear Aniruddh

Here are few reasons which our friends in community have given

1. Its difficult to type Indian languages on the keyboards

2. Typing on the mobile screen is not comfortable.

3. Even if they buy a small qwerty key board the keys are small and not
comfortable.

4. Braille keyboards like "orbit writer" are light weight with big keys and
designed to suit their needs.

5. Mainstream companies are not educated on the need of visually impaired
community.

6. Portability is a great factor and the small braille keyboards are great at
it.

Thanks

Nirmal
