[AI] Smart shoes alert blind and visually impaired people of obstacles

2021-05-12 Thread Ronald Jason Escrader
Hi Access Indians,

The Austrian company, Tec-Innovation has developed an intelligent shoe, known
as “InnoMake,” that tells you where to go.

How does the InnoMake smart shoe work?

The warning system built into the shoe includes distance sensors, sensors for
detecting foot movements, a vibration unit, an ultra-bright LED, and a
processing

unit, as well as a wireless connection to a smartphone. The built-in
electronics and battery are mounted in a water and dust-resistant casing at the
front

of the shoe.

How does the smart shoe notify you of obstacles?

The smart shoe uses ultrasound sensors on the toe to warn blind users of
obstacles in their path. It can detect potential obstacles located up to four

meters in front of the user. The wearer is then warned by haptic (vibration),
acoustic, or visual signals.

The vibration feedback is provided directly in the shoe, which allows you to
feel if there is an obstacle in front of you. The acoustic feedback is provided

via a smartphone and, if required, via, e.g., bone conduction headphones so as
not to drown out environmental noises. In addition, the visual impulses

can be transmitted via the LED on the shoe, and they can provide you with
additional support in the dark.

How long do the shoes last?

The built-in batteries effortlessly cope with average daily life due to this
intelligent control system and last for up to one week, depending on use.

You can fully recharge InnoMake within three hours with the provided Micro-USB
cable.

Photo image of TEC-INNOVATION

The InnoMake by Tec-Innovation, an innovative tool for people with disabilities
and their daily life

Watch on YouTube

Are there any future advancements for the smart shoes?

The InnoMake was designed in partnership with the Austria’s Graz University of
Technology. The TU Graz team is now working on a camera-based version of

the shoe’s removable sensor module. Deep-learning algorithms analyze the camera
images to recognize and mark areas that can be walked on without danger. The
team also wants to combine the information collected while wearing the shoe in
terms of swarm knowledge into a kind of street view navigation map for visually
impaired people. InnoMake has been engineered to help people with visual
impairments, elderly people as well as rescue organizations in their everyday
life.

When are the InnoMake shoes available?

There is no information on when the camera-equipped InnoMake shoes may be
available. But the existing version of the InnoMake smart shoe is now already
available on the market for €3,200 ($3800 USD) a pair.

[AI] Google announces new Assistant features

2021-05-12 Thread Ronald Jason Escrader
Hi Access Indians,

In a blog post, Google has announced new Google Assistant features to help
families stay more organized.

FAMILY BROADCAST

Family broadcast extends the broadcast feature so you can reach your family
wherever they are, and they can respond from any device including from their
phones. With Family Broadcast, when you get home you can broadcast a message
to your Google Family Group across all our smart speakers and displays. The
message will even reach your family on their iPhone or Android device they
are away from home, letting them reply by voice or by selecting the "reply"
button.

FAMILY BELL REMINDER

With Family Bell reminders, parents can add bell reminders throughout the
day that announce when it's time to start an online class, take a break,
settle in for reading time, have a snack or even for bedtime. To get
started, simply say "Hey Google, create a Family Bell" or select Family Bell
in your Assistant settings. It includes suggested bells for activities like
recess, nap time or math time, or you can customize bells to alert someone
in your household of an upcoming activity.

Over the coming weeks, Google is expanding Family Bell to eight new
languages, including Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese,
Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Another highly requested feature Google is
rolling out today is the ability to have Family Bells ring across multiple
home devices at one time (not just one smart speaker or display).

NEW STORIES AND GAMES

Assistant is getting new stories and games that you can access from a smart
display or Android device. Google is partnering with Pottermore Publishing
to bring more stories later in the year.

Google is also bringing the "Who Was?" series from Penguin Random House to
your smart display. Just say "Hey Google, talk to Who Was Heroes'" and
listen to stories about Ida B. Wells, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and over 100
others. To get a full list of all the stories that are available, simply say
"Hey Google, tell me a story." (With a parent's permission, children under
13, or the applicable age in their country, can have a personalized Google
Assistant experience and access these games designed for kids and families,
powered by Family Link.)

Google Assistant now also features a new trivia game, "Are you smarter than
a 5th Grader."

MORE

Google has added a new clean-up song to motivate kids, activated by saying
"Hey Google, Sing the cleanup song." There is also a handwashing song, sleep
song and brush your teeth song.

The features should be available to your Google Nest Hub now.

[AI] जिंदगी 50-50 उपन्यास

2021-05-12 Thread NAB Delhi Helpline
Greeting From NAB Delhi!

prevent the spread of the virus, people with disabilities may have
difficulty observing these rules in public places.
A team of researchers at IBM is working to change that, with the help
of the new LineChaser application, using AI to help visually impaired
people maintain a safe distance from others around them, as spotted by
SlashGear. Instead of relying on a single camera, the app uses data
from two sensors to help users measure the distance between themselves
and the person in front of them.
Using software to make use of information captured by the device’s RGB
and infrared depth sensors, to keep track of people in their
surroundings – the former is used to detect people nearby, while the
infrared sensor is used to measure their distance from the user. It
then provides them with audio and haptic feedback. On the basis of
these responses, visually impaired users can then decide whether they
need to move forward in a line or stay put.
According to the IBM researcher Hironobu Takagi, the app was tested on
participants with various disabilities and helped all of them
successfully managed to reach the end of a line, while visually
impaired users were able to stop at an ‘acceptable position’ 91.7
percent of the time if they were following a line. Takagi also said
that participants in the trial gave the system a high usability score,
while reporting higher confidence and comfortableness when they were
standing in line.

We hope that more visually impaired people can benefit from our
technology. We also hope that with time, the social acceptance of the
use of camera devices in public spaces will improve. We found the
acceptance was already high if a blind person used a device for
assistive purposes, but we think that as a society, we need to improve
our understanding of such technologies,” Takagi said.
