Hi there, an interesting thread.

Actually I very strongly believe that the exam conducting bodies should
make the examination accessible in a way through which visually impaired
candidates can give the exams on their own with the help of screen readers.
As far as the mathematical and reasoning part is concerned, I think the
special schools should quit their apathy towards maths and teach the
students maths post 8th standard as well. Unfortunately because of the
competitions of scribe those who are genuine candidates are left behind for
no fault of theirs.
Especially when you are applying for a bank job, and if we give an argument
that a or b or c cannot operate computer then that person is not the right
person to get this job itself considering nowadays banking is shifting
towards digitisation.
Institutions, non government organisations and advocacy groups should
ensure that visually challenged students are getting the proper training
during the school itself and even during their preparation for competitive
exams and then only we will be able to overcome the competition of scribes
and can focus on the competition between the genuine candidates.

For captcha, I have used Google lens several times with talkback and it
works fine.

Once I tried on the uidai portal and it worked out.

Though I did not have to change my address, just trying to explore if it
works on the uidai portal or not, hence I decided not to proceed further.

[AI] Help regarding opening with account with HDFC Bank.

Greetings! as the subject line suggests, I am willing to open a saving
account with HDFC bank. Previously I went to nearest HDFC bank branch.
it seems that, the local staff was not sensitised towards customers
with disabilities. the bank maneger told me we can not open blind
customers account. please guide me where I shall keep this issue?

Hi fiyaaz,
Hope I have written your name correct if not then apologies about that!
Well some months before I had faced the same issue with the HDFC bank,
my case was like control C control V as of you.
Let me write here what I had done to resolve it!
I had  register a complain on HDFC support portal and I had written to
managing director on managingdirec...@hdfc.com
Within three days I got my HDFC salary account.
Fun fact before complaining I had visited four nearest branches of
HDFC and got almost same reply from all but after complain all four
branches BMs called me and asked to open the whatever account I want!
Now today I have internet banking, checkbook, debit card. From HDFC.
Hope this information will help you and you will solve your problem!
But still need some help regarding above written matter then feel free
to get back to me on 9905725128 between 9AM to 6PM.

through mobile i  tried with several OCRs and they didnt work for me
at least in aadhaar captcha.

can we use google lense with computers?

dear sir/madam,

i wish to share my long incedent regarding my kotak account.  i am a
visually impaired person working with union bank of india as scale 2
officer.  i have opened joint account with my wife as second holder
and myself as first holder using my thumb impression in august 2016 in
sv road malad west branch under crn 197191271.  initially, i have
given all the facilities like debit card, chequebook, net banking and
mobile banking.  even they have issued me credit card also.  but in
beginning of 2019, suddenly, they have disabled my netbanking and
phone banking facility and after some time, mobile banking also.  for
this, they have not gave me any reason.  after so many times asking,
they told me that because of your thumb impression, we can't give you
all the facilities.  they have refused to give me in writing.  now
they have again issued me fresh credit card but my all online
transaction rights are still disabled and they are refused to restore
the same.  i have also told them about rbi circulars allowing all the
banking facilities to vi people.  so now please tell me whether i will
get all disabled services on my account back or should i close my
account permanently.  you can also call me on 9322710065 for more
information.  waiting for your response and help in this regard.

I would have agreed a few years ago where screen readers did indeed have 
different keystrokes. However, these days, most screen readers have adopted 
similar keyboard layouts. Yes, there are differences but those are shrinking. I 
use nvda,  orca, narrator and jaws routinely. For basic word processing, the 
keystrokes are virtually the same. The same applies to navigating on the 
internet. Yes, jaws has forms mode, nvda has focus mode but that is a 
difference in terminology.

 

Computer trouble can hit any one and in any exam center. I was recently taking 
an exam at prometric where there was a delay of 2 hours because the exam 
software was not coming up.

Note:

I was using a scribe for that exam, screen readers were not permitted.

complaint to bank, you can approach RBI Ombudsman for redressal of
your grievance. The complaint with RBI Ombudsman can be lodged at
