A lot of things are automate at their end and one design change has broken this. Also custom menus designed by merchants have also added to the problem.Given the season, they can’t make major changes to their code hence January.I know I can’t get accessibility professionals paid for this, but if someone can find major issues and let me know, I can get them addressed. 1. News-Vision-impaired student seeks help to achieve his dreams

KOCHI: Being 80% visually impaired never stopped Arjun K Kumar, a native of
Viyyur in Thrissur, from dreaming to become a law academician. He not only
pursued a degree in Law from Thrissur Law College with high marks but even
got admission to LLM under the special reservation category at the
Ernakulam Law College.

However, the distance from his native place to the college is playing
spoilsport in his dreams. “I cannot travel such a long distance without
help from others. Being a daily wage worker, it is difficult for my father
to accompany me everyday. My mother on the other hand is suffering from
asthma and rheumatic pain. So it is practically impossible for me to attend
the classes daily,” says Arjun.

The youth has now approached the governor, chancellor and the higher
education minister seeking to transfer his admission to Thrissur Law
College. In his representation to the authorities, he cited, “The nearest
law college from my home is the Government Law College, Thrissur, which is
at a distance of only 5km. To attend the classes at the Government Law
College, Ernakulam, I have to first reach Thrissur KSRTC stand on a private
bus from Viyyur. Thereafter, I have to again travel from Thrissur by KSRTC
bus to Ernakulam. The college is at a distance of 2.5km from the bus stand.”
 The impediment to his request is that there is only one seat reserved for
special category students and it is allotted at the Ernakulam Law College.
His request is to transfer the special reservation for the blind to
Thrissur college and issue necessary directions to the principals of both
colleges in this regard. Arjun said if the governor and the government
accept his request, he can complete his studies without much hassle.

Meanwhile, Arjun’s lawyer Advocate G Krishna Kumar said the High Court in a
case -- Aswathy P vs Union of India -- stated that “It is an obligation of
the state to do all that is necessary to empower persons with disabilities
to foster their participation in all aspects of life.”

Merely drafting a National Tourism Policy is not enough for the
development of the tourism sector in the country, a Parliamentary
committee has said.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture
has suggested fast-tracking the creation of a National Tourism Council
on the lines of the GST council to directly make recommendations to
the Central and State governments on various issues of the tourism
sector and its stakeholders.

Observing that “Vision without action is a daydream, and action
without a vision is a nightmare”, the panel sought to know from the
government the action taken regarding creation of the Tourism Council
after inter-ministerial consultations in this regard.

The committee also sought to know the steps taken by the Tourism
Ministry regarding its earlier recommendation of including tourism in
the concurrent list.

“The committee is of the view that inclusion of tourism in the
concurrent list will help in simplifying the issues of the
pandemic-hit Indian tourism sector since tourism is a multi-sectoral
activity. The Ministry should inform the committee whether any action
has been taken by it on the long-standing recommendation,” the
committee said.

It also sought to know why some 20 States were yet to accord industry
status to hospitality projects and asked the Ministry whether anything
in this regard has been conveyed by these States to the Centre.

As of now eight States—Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala,
Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand—have accorded industry
status to hospitality projects.

The committee also questioned the Centre over releasing a meagre ₹3.88
crore to Kerala for development of spiritual tourism as compared to
₹69.47 crore sanctioned. Two other States, Rajasthan and Maharashtra,
have also been given ₹68.24 crore and ₹24 crore against the sanctioned
amounts of ₹89.93 crore and ₹47.53 crore, it noted.

It expressed concern that in projects sanctioned five years ago or
before 2017-18, like the ‘Development at Hazratbal’ in Jammu and
Kashmir and ‘Infrastructure Development at Puri, Shree Jagannath Dham
– Ramachandi- Prachi River front at Deuli under Mega Circuit’ in
Odisha, the progress rates achieved have been less than expected.

“The committee is of the view that projects taking longer than five
years may incur high cost and schedule or time overruns, which will
put extra financial burden and resource crunch on the Ministry and
implementing agencies involved,” it further said.
