RE: [AI] Join us in our research study to develop a better AI for the sight impaired community

2023-07-12 Thread Vedprakash Sharma
I’d like to participate. Sent from Mail for Windows From: Gesu IndiaSent: 12 July 2023 01:44 PMTo: accessindia@accessindia.org.inSubject: [AI] Join us in our research study to develop a better AI for the sight impaired community Dear all, I hope you're having a good day. My name is Gesu India, a PhD student at Swansea University, UK interested in designing assistive technologies for people with sight impairments. Right now, I'm seeking participants for my research study.  Imagine having an application that can find things for you, as and when needed. Now imagine something better - such an application customized to YOUR needs. You’re looking for your coffee mug that someone moved in the kitchen, or a favorite shirt to wear to the office - you can customize an object-recogniser to find it all! In our research study, you will customize our object-recogniser application, called Find My Things, by “teaching” it to recognise and find things that matter to you. Like, how one would teach a sighted child about plants by showing them examples of plants, you will “teach” Find My Things your chosen objects by recording 8 short videos (5-6 seconds each) of it, for a total ten objects of your choice. It's a simple process, and our app guides you through it. Whether it's your glasses, wallet, or favorite coffee mug, you have endless possibilities to make Find My Things recognize what matters to you. So, how are you helping your community with this? Well, the recorded videos of your objects will be part of a larger dataset containing videos contributed by hundreds of other people with sight impairments, like you, coming from different parts of the world. This dataset will become the central “knowledge base” for apps like Find My Things to learn about objects like yours. Before adding the recorded videos of your objects to this dataset, we will ensure its quality and your privacy protection. We expect that recording videos for ten of your personal items will take approximately 1.5 hours of your time, however you will have access to our app for seven days for this study. At the end of this study, we would also like to know your feedback on the study via a one-to-one audio call lasting for approximately 45 mins. Once the study successfully completes, you will be compensated INR 350 for your time and efforts.  We're looking for participants who are above 18 years old, legally blind or visually impaired, have no other disabilities affecting participation, have internet access, and have been regular Android smartphone users (with TalkBack) for at least six months. Please note, you can use our app in Hindi or English, as per your preference. If you are interested to embark on this research journey with us and hundreds of people with sight impairments all over the world, please reply to this email only to me, or reach out at g.india.2132...@swansea.ac.uk. Feel free to share this message with your friends and contacts who meet the participant criteria. Join us in developing a better AI for your community!Thank you for your time and we are excitedly looking forward to hearing from you.  Kind regards, Gesu India (Pronouns: she/her)PhD researcher, Computer ScienceSwansea University, UK-- Disclaimer:1. Re: [AI] A query regarding solo travel of a VI abroad

2023-07-12 Thread Vaibhav Saraf
Hi Avichal,

Depends on where you are travelling. European countries will have different
setup for some things, Asian will have different and Americans will have
different, talking continent wise.

Best will be to get in touch with local blind groups, who can in turn get
you in touch with some guides. There can be group for specific things too,
e.g., recreational groups, meetup groups, sports groups, etc. A bit of here
and there communication could help.

There are sure some guides available at different places who know how to
work with VI based on their passion, experience, or from someone they know.
Some will be eager to help and learn as well. In short, have a plan before
you travel.

Thanks,
Vaibhav

Re: [AI] Audio Musical theatre

2023-07-12 Thread Aishwarya Pillai
DearAll,
Thank you for your responses.
@Vedprakash:
I utilized the ProTools application for the audio production. While it
is a professional tool, it unfortunately does not support screen
readers. To overcome this obstacle, I received assistance from my
sighted colleague in mixing the audio.
@Yamuna:
I have received consistent feedback regarding the need for an English
translation of the production. Although I cannot make any promises, I
will make an effort to provide an English version in the near future.
@Ishaan:
I did not adhere to any standard scripting format during the production process.

With regards,
Aishwarya

[AI] Join us in our research study to develop a better AI for the sight impaired community

2023-07-12 Thread Gesu India
Dear all,

I hope you're having a good day. My name is Gesu India, a PhD student at
Swansea University, UK interested in designing assistive technologies for
people with sight impairments. Right now, I'm seeking participants for my
research study.

Imagine having an application that can find things for you, as and when
needed. Now imagine something better - such an application customized to
YOUR needs. You’re looking for your coffee mug that someone moved in the
kitchen, or a favorite shirt to wear to the office - you can customize an
object-recogniser to find it all! In our research study, you will customize
our object-recogniser application, called Find My Things, by “teaching” it
to recognise and find things that matter to you. Like, how one would teach
a sighted child about plants by showing them examples of plants, you will
“teach” Find My Things your chosen objects by recording 8 short videos (5-6
seconds each) of it, for a total ten objects of your choice. It's a simple
process, and our app guides you through it. Whether it's your glasses,
wallet, or favorite coffee mug, you have endless possibilities to make Find
My Things recognize what matters to you.

So, how are you helping your community with this? Well, the recorded videos
of your objects will be part of a larger dataset containing videos
contributed by hundreds of other people with sight impairments, like you,
coming from different parts of the world. This dataset will become the
central “knowledge base” for apps like Find My Things to learn about
objects like yours. Before adding the recorded videos of your objects to
this dataset, we will ensure its quality and your privacy protection. We
expect that recording videos for ten of your personal items will take
approximately 1.5 hours of your time, however you will have access to our
app for seven days for this study. At the end of this study, we would also
like to know your feedback on the study via a one-to-one audio call lasting
for approximately 45 mins. Once the study successfully completes, you will
be compensated INR 350 for your time and efforts.

We're looking for participants who are above 18 years old, legally blind or
visually impaired, have no other disabilities affecting participation, have
internet access, and have been regular Android smartphone users (with
TalkBack) for at least six months. Please note, you can use our app in
Hindi or English, as per your preference. If you are interested to embark
on this research journey with us and hundreds of people with sight
impairments all over the world, please reply to this email only to me, or reach
out at g.india.2132...@swansea.ac.uk. Feel free to share this message with
your friends and contacts who meet the participant criteria.

Join us in developing a better AI for your community!

Thank you for your time and we are excitedly looking forward to hearing
from you.

Kind regards,

Gesu India

[AI] A query regarding solo travel of a VI abroad

2023-07-12 Thread Avichal Bhatnagar
Hello list members,
As the subject line indicates, I would like to know that if a visually
impaired person wants to be a solo traveler to any foreign
destination, is there assistance easily available?
I mean to ask specifically in context of guides that could help the vi
in local side-seeing, shopping and so on.
If anyone has any experience in this regard, please do respond.
Thanks,
Avichal
