Re: [AI] Information needed about Jaws home anual from Karishma enterprises

2023-07-28 Thread Aman Preet Singh
Hi! As per my information, the policy of the freedom scientific and Karishma
Enterprises is that, they provide JAWS software home edition on a highly
subsidy price from the actual price, to the blind individual. I don’t know
about the current price, but some years before I talked to the Karishma
Enterprises, and they told that the actual price of JAWS software is 80,000,
but they provide it on 15,750 to the blind individual. I think That’s why they
are asking you for your Above-mentioned certificates. But before purchasing,
you must should be aware about the company policies and software policies of
using. You should know about all the necessary policies from the Karishma.
Thank.

Blind since six, Tamil Nadu man repairs mixies by touch

COIMBATORE: Sureshkumar, 32, picks up a mixie that a man  brought to his
repair shop in Coimbatore, identifies the  problem and has it running
again, all in 15 minutes. What's   the big deal? Suresh is completely blind.
He runs a service centre for mixer-grinders, washing
machines,  refrigerators and LPG stoves all by himself on
the  Kavundampalayam-TVS Nagar road. When TOI visited his shop
on  Tuesday, Suresh was busy repairing two mixies. He deftly   took the
appliances apart, identifying the wires and moving   parts by touch
unfazed that the power was on. He listened to  the appliances running to
diagnose the problem.
Suresh  said, "Initially people hesitated to give me their
appliance  for repairs, but once they saw the quality of my work
they  started to trust me. Now I service double-door
refrigerators .. washing machines, mixer grinders, ceiling fans and gas
stoves.
Suresh lost his vision after a bout of brain fever when he  was barely
six years old. He attended a government school  for the visually
impaired till Class V but dropped out  after that. "I lost hope
initially. Then my elder sister  Revathy approached an electrical goods
service   at Saravanampatti in Coimbatore city more  than a decade ago
and requested them to allow me to learn  the trade," Suresh said. That
was the turning point.

Krishnamurthy, the man who owned the service centre, was patient with
Suresh. He would give the youth the different parts of mixer grinders,
washing machines and refrigerators and explain what they were. Over time
Suresh learned to tell them apart by touch. He also proved a dab hand at
coil winding.
The first appliance Suresh repaired on his own was a mixer grinder. "A
pushplate was damaged and I replaced it. I can't describe what I felt
when the appliance ran smoothly.  It gave me a new confidence that I
could live my life independently," he said. Six months ago, Suresh
picked up the confidence to branch out on his own and opened ' Mari
Electrical'.
A big local electrical  appliances store gives him a lot of gadgets to
service and  repair. Suresh said he asks people to use  UPI to pay him
as he cannot identify the value of  currency notes. He's planning to
learn braille to overcome  this. He now aspires to set up an institute
to train  visually challenged people.
"I can teach visually  impaired people to repair electrical goods so
that they  don't have to travel on trains and buses begging for  alms,"
he said. Suresh said he makes enough to put food  on the table and pay
the rent for his shop and the house  he shares with his mother K Maheswari.

Thank you for your quick response. I am happy to send my disability

for my certificates before providing me with prize details for the JAWS

[AI] ABHINAY LAKSHMAN Reports: Parliament Alert: No accurate count of population of Persons with Disabilities, says parliamentary panel

2023-07-28 Thread avinash shahi
The government explained that data on PwDs are largely taken from the
decennial censuses conducted by the office of the Registrar General
and sample surveys on disability conducted by the National Sample
Survey of the National Statistical Office. File | Photo Credit: The
Hindu

Already under fire from rights activists and the Opposition over
dropping disability-related questions in the sixth round of the
National Family Health Survey (NFHS), the Union government was on
Thursday pulled up by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social
Justice and Empowerment for failing to accurately estimate the current
population of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in the country.
In its report on the action taken by the government on its
recommendations made in March, the House Panel, headed by BJP MP Rama
Devi, said at least until the results of Census 2021 were made
available, which might take “considerable time”, the government ought
to use every resource it has to correctly estimate the population of
PwDs. This included collaborating with State governments, using data
from surveys they are conducting, consulting experts, and sensitising
surveyors of the Ministry of Statistics.
ecommendations in March, the government explained that data on PwDs
are largely taken from the decennial censuses conducted by the office
of the Registrar General and sample surveys on disability conducted by
the National Sample Survey of the National Statistical Office.

Identity cards
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities went on to
explain that the government had introduced a measure to provide Unique
Disability ID (UDID) cards to all those covered under schemes meant
for them. It said anyone could sign up to get the certificate and
based on that policies can be designed and delivered.

However, responding to this, the committee said this “may not work”.
“By the department’s own admission, it has issued 94.09 lakh UDID
cards so far whereas the PwD population even 10 years ago was more
than double that number.” The House committee failed to understand the
rationale of the department for doing so.
Further, when the Opposition and rights activists had cornered the
government over dropping of the disability-related questions from the
NFHS-6 last month, the Health Ministry had justified this in an
official communication on June 22, saying that most of this data were
already available through the 76th Round of the NSS conducted in 2018.

But before the House panel, the Department of PwDs submitted that this
survey had collected information on indicators of incidence and
prevalence of disability such as cause of disability, age at onset,
facilities available, difficulties faced, and other details. The
government told the committee, “This data is used during policy
formulation for empowerment of PwDs. However, in this survey, there is
no account of total number of PwDs presently in India.”

The committee went on to recommend to the government, “We feel there
is an urgent requirement to explore innovative solutions to this
issue. We therefore reiterate earlier recommendation that the
department must explore other avenues and collaborate with the State
governments and other departments / organisations which are engaged in
implementation of the schemes for welfare of PwDs to arrive at a
realistic assessment of the PwD population in the country.”
