Re: [AI] Is disability data to be captured in the census?

2020-01-11 Thread Ankit rajiv Jindal
hi Harish,

Census 2021 will include disability. This was confirmed in the Data
User Conference organized by Office of Registrar Genral of India,
earlier 2019.

however, please be informed, that this is a general population
survey, thus disability specific questions such as disability
certificate or access to assistive products will not be included. For
this we need to look up the NSSO Disability Survey 2018. A summary of
this data is available in the following link:
http://friendsforinclusion.org/2019/11/26/nss-76-round/

For Census to be meaningful, It's important that each one of us make a
point to identify ourselves as disabled in the census. Please keep our
family members informed. Among several reasons for poor data on
disability, is the fact that families don't declare disability.

If you've any question on the Census or NSSO data, please reach out to
me at +919535767654.

Thanks and regards

2019-05-14 Thread Ankit rajiv Jindal
Dear Harish.

Firstly, thank you. We appreciate you taking time from your busy schedule
to try Mera Mitra & to send in your inputs.
We are glad that you find the solution interesting and called it a step in
the right direction. Our team is working to get new features to make Mera
Mitra experience better & useful for the community.
Mera Mitra currently doesn’t have support for “send this info via email”.
However, our team is already working on incorporating this feature and we
shall keep you all informed on as and when we have support for the same.
We understand your concerns with regards to sign-up process. At the outset,
let me assure that we are collecting very basic user’s information.
Information collected via Mera Mitra will not be transferred to any third
parties. There is NO other information that Mera Mitra stores, including
access to your contacts in mobile phonebook. The sign-up provides us the
potential to add several personalization, including the feature to “send
this info via email”. You will start seeing these rolling out in our
subsequent releases.
Nevertheless, I have noted your concerns and we will examine if there is
a way to activate an optional sign-in process. Thanks for flagging this
off for us.
As we mentioned in our original mail, Mera Mitra is in its infancy, we are
are excited of its possibilities and we want to make it better, for the
community, with the community. Please continue to send in your suggestions
or comments to us via this forum or write to us at i...@meramitra.in or

Dear Sir/Madam,

Greetings from National Association of the Deaf (NAD)!

National Association of the Deaf in partnership with Microsoft India
invites you to the Empowering for Inclusion Summit, organised on 15th
and 16th February, 2019 in New Delhi.

Technology, as we are aware, is the greatest enabler for persons with
disabilities. Assistive technologies such as screen-readers, braille
displays as also mainstream technologies such as smartphones, Windows
10 and Office 365 offer several possibilities to persons with
disabilities to reduce or overcome barriers encountered by them. In
more recent times, emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence,
Internet of Things, Machine Learnings etc., when applied for people
with disabilities, tremendously help plug existing gaps and
substantially improve scope for independent living.

It is to deliberate on the existing challenges and opportunities in
creating, promoting and disseminating accessible and appropriate
technology solutions for people with disabilities that we invite you
to join us for the Summit.

Please find attached the agenda and concept note for the programme.
Please confirm your participation by filling the

Re: [AI] I phone or android

2018-06-04 Thread Ankit rajiv Jindal
I have used both operating system.
Go with iphone if budget is not a constrain.
Consider Iphone SE, Iphone 6Sor 6s+ or higher model.
Else, android phones are also great, but I tend to lean towards Iphone for
ease and intuitiveness of this device.

Re: [AI] Serious advice needed on the issue of marriage with a sighted girl

2018-03-26 Thread Ankit rajiv Jindal
Hi Alvesh, I have been through a similar situation a few years ago. My
wife's parent were not convinced, but I am now married with her,
amicably.
I think it is important that you speak to the girl's parents and
showcase your strengths and confront their doubts/ questions directly
and demonstrate how you are prepared for the future.

Moreover, you should also double check and get more understanding of
your condition . . RP is not a stable condition and has high degree of
probability of it carrying to the next generations also... It may or
may not be the case with you, but it is important to have all the
facts in place. Make sure your prospective partner understand all this
in detail.

Trust, transparency and your confidence will ensure that your relation
is based on a strong foundation.

Feel free to call me at 9535767654 if you feel like talking about it more.

Body language is certainly important part of public communication.
A good way to evelop this is by joining Toastmasters. They have
innumerable clubs in India. check out the closest and join them.
Each project is reviewed and given feedback. You can ask your mentor
to specifically work on body language with you and so can you ask the
evaluator to specifically comment on Body Language.
It is an amazing platform.

I do wholeheartedly agree with the view that the way in which you

Voice modulation, sense of humour, witty comments, etc are indeed
indispensable components for delivering a good speech.
However, my only point is that being able to make appropriate
gestures might help you to convert a very good speech into a great

So, basically, even though it isn't necessary, it does add some value

I would like to get everyone's views on one important subject.
Whenever I give a speech or a presentation, one area in which I
 lack is non-verbal communication.
This is because I just stand there and deliver my speech.
I don't move my hands or anything to put greater emphasis on a point,
 etc like sighted people do.
Due to this, sometimes, even if you deliver a great speech, it doesn't
appeal to your listeners like it should.

So, what do you all think about this?
What are the best ways of dealing with this problem?

2013-04-05 Thread Ankit rajiv Jindal
Hi Ajay, As our friends in the groups advise, learning new skill will
always put you better than the others.

Coming to ppt, for making ppt I use jaws and can create fairly
reasonable ppts using ppt templates. However, makigng complex ppt is
certainly a challenge...

If you are looking at using ppt as an enabler for your talk /
presentation, if you plan and practise your ppt you can still manage
it.You can also use a bluetooth earplug which can give you a wire
free experience in Jaws. You can also save notes on your phone which
is attached to ears through earplugs.

Braille certainly becomes handy during ppts as you don’t have to hear
and then speak. Also you are utilizing one more of your senses; touch.

Listening and then speaking breaks the rhythm of the presentation.
Learning Braille is not a big deal, but it takes time to use it
speedily. Also it’s bulky, but great tool when you don’t want to be
loaded with gadget all over your body. It gives me free mind and I
 speak better that way.

Do learn it. Learning is never a waste.

And yah, congratulations for your short listings.

 Good luck

Just to give a different perspective, While braille does have some
great usage, Personally, I have never used it. I have been able to

It is in these moments where Braille comes really handy. Oftener,

It takes you double the time when you listen on your laptop and you

Hello friends,
I think, most of you know about me.
Well for those who don't know, I am currently pursuing my final year
of graduation from commerce streme.
I started using screan readers and other assistive devices in april 2010.
I had enough vision at that time to support me in my studies as well
as mobility.
Since december 2011, due to a sudden diminish in my eyesight, I had to
switch to scanning and OCR for my studies and white cane for my
mobility needs.
Since then, I am dependent on my laptop for note taking and other tasks.
I appeared for cat 2012 and got shortlisted for the 2nd round of
addmission process of Some IIMs.
It was obvious that I never thought of learning braille due to that
sudden changing senario of my life.
Now when the things are quite setteled down and I find myself
comfortable with allmost all the things which I use, I want to ask all
the professionals on this list that should I learn braille?
I know it may prove really helpful in my day to day tasks but apart
from that what benifits of braille do you people see in today's
corporate world?
If got selected then, I will be having appropsimattely 1 month with
me. So can I learn reading and writing english language using braille
in this time span?
I request all those people who are working specially in corporate
world to give me proper guidance.

 better
with NVDA. I don't have any examples as of now. The HDFC Bank website comes
to mind. There was a time when NVDA was not speaking the information
relating to the submit and cancel buttons in the funds transfer web pages.
These buttons were unlabeled image links but jaws has a variety of options
to choose from in terms of speaking different elements relating to
 unlabeled
 image links.
 5. I did not find a mechanism to label elements on a web page. This comes
 in
handy in adapting semi-accessible web interfaces. My employer has a travel
request filing system. The edit boxes are unlabeled. So I have had to label
them using the jaws custom page labeling feature. Yes, I can talk to my
employer about accessibility but I have been hired for a given set of tasks
and I would prefer spending my time on my primary job. Moreover, a lot of
 IT
is outsourced so making any changes to software involves cost from the
 vendor.

I would ask the bank to buy Jaws but to keep NVDA handy for situations
 where
 jaws failed.

 hello friends,
Regret the delay, nevertheless so here is my experience:

I have now been using this for over 36 hours. It has been a lot of fun
for me and my brother using it. We have not encountered any problem
using this on our nokia E72
… So here is mmy step by step guide and experience.
 1. I have downloaded the latest version of Mobile Speak from the
 following link
 http://codefactory.es/en/downloads.asp?id=348#version_0_106.
 2. The Mobile Speak version allows to download the latest and
accessible whatsapp directly. For this I went to Configure Mobile
Speak Options Product downloads More downloads and followed the
links to the WhatsApp installation package and installed on the same.
You can also download it from the whatsapp website however be cautious
it is recommended that the v2.6.97 as this accessible and not the
 version prior to that.
 3. Once installed, Mobile speak is silent for first couple of minute.
 4. Then the first screen encounter is that were you need to enter your
country code and phone number. I did not have any trouble doing this
 5. The next step is to enter your name. no problem here also.
 6. The next step was where I encountered Chat lists, Favorite lists,
Contact lists and current Status list. The page completely accessible
 no problem here.m
 a. During the chat:
focus is first placed on the edit field where you can enter the
message. It reads all that I have written no problem here.I Use the
joystick or top or down arrow.
 b. To view all messages that were previously sent in the current chat,
I used the joystick up/down key to navigate message-by-message.
The message was be spoken, along with the time it was sent. No problem
 here at all.
 c. An interesting feature in the chat window was that I could write my
reply at any time, even if currently focusing on a previous message.
This made my job very easy and intuitive..
 7. The Group chats (spoke the name of the sender of each message.. No
 problem here..
 8. No problem in changing the status also..
In a nut shell, the experience has ben seemless and a lot of fun.
A note for a caution is that whatsapp requires internet connection, so
you may want to use a good plan for it. I have no idea the kind of
 usage it has..
In nokia versions, whatsapp does not allow to sign out. This mean you
are always available, thus there is a constant use of internet.
This will also put added pressure on your battery

Re: [AI] Excel again

2011-12-21 Thread Ankit rajiv Jindal
From an accessibility perspective office 2007 and 2010 is better.
Though it will take some time for you to be acquainted and use to the
new ribbon mode..

On 12/21/11, Zujar Shabbir Kanchwala zujarbri...@gmail.com wrote:
Check the state of ScrollLock on your system. Toggle it to Off state.
You should be able to navigate with arrow keys and also select
specific text in a cell in Edit mode.

For JAWS to speak column titles, place the cursor in the row
containing heading/titles and press CTRL+ALT+INSERT+C. You would hear
JAWS say something like: Setting Column Titles row range to N, where
N is the row number. Now JAWS would speak column titles automatically.

 Hello all,

First of all, thanks to everyone who responded to my Excel questions
 earlier.

I have some specific problems which seem to have aggravated since I
 switched
to Jaws 12 a few months ago. I use Jaws 12 with Excel 2003.

Below is a list of some of the problems I am encountering. Would greatly
 appreciate workarounds.

 1. I am no longer able to move from cell to cell using the arrow keys.
 Jaws
neither speaks nor moves the focus to the next cell when I press the right
or left arrow keys. I therefore use the tab key for this purpose, which is
 very inconvenient.

 2. I am unable to select and highlight specific portions of text in a cell
in a particular colour. When I try that, the entire cell is highlighted.

 3. I am no longer able to set up Jaws in such a way that column titles are
automatically read out. This used to be possible in Jaws 11.

I am wondering whether switching to Office 2007 would resolve some of my
problems. Since I work on Excel files fairly regularly, I would like to
 sort
this out as soon as possible, and all help will be appreciated.

 Many thanks.
 Geetha
