Re: [AI] First bionic eye to undergo clinical tests by 2011
Hello. That is good news. Thank you for sending. Warm regards, Gianfranco - Original Message - From: Renuka Warrier eren...@gmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Tuesday, April 28, 2009 10:13 AM Subject: [AI] First bionic eye to undergo clinical tests by 2011 The Hindu News Update Service News Update Service Tuesday, April 28, 2009 : 1445 Hrs Sci. Tech. First bionic eye to undergo clinical tests by 2011 Sydney (IANS): The first clinical test of a bionic eye is likely within two years and commercialisation within five, according to researchers. A bionic eye is a form of neural prosthesis (artificial extensions of body) intended to partially restore lost vision or amplify existing vision. Director of Bionic Vision Australia Anthony Burkitt, also professor at the University of Melbourne (U-M), welcomed the announcement and says a $50 million (Australian) funding boost will place Australia at the forefront of development in the bionic eye. It is almost three decades since a team at U-M developed the bionic ear, and Burkitt said a similar multidisciplinary approach - using biomedical engineers, clinical experts and neuroscientists from Vision Australia - will have similar success in the development of a retinal implant, said a release. Head of the Macular Research Unit at the Centre for Eye Research Australia, Robyn Guymer said the boost in funding will increase chances of delivering a bionic eye with such high resolution that it does more than simply differentiate between shadows and large objects, as current bionic eyes enable. We are hopeful that with this funding we could provide a much higher quality of life to people with severe visual loss, she said. I have heard somewhere there is shortcut which can create all our details at the end of every mail which we have already stored. Can any of you tell me how to do that much of things? Of course we can store our information in a file we can coppy and paste it every time. I don't think its good and safe for us. so please let me know how to do these things either in internet ex or outlook ex. Hi folks ! Glad indeed to inform you that our otherwise shy and invisible friend, Shashikala, has been awarded the Big Dipper Award at the Annual Day celebrations of Aditi Technologies, Bangalore, two days back by the company's CEO. She has been conferred this honour for her excellent performance and superlative commitment during a particularly difficult period for the company. Shashikala, who completes 3 years in Aditi this month, is a product of Mitra Jyothi and Enable India and is the only person from her functional group - HR - to get this award. Her commendable achievement has to be seen in the background of massive, though non-quantified and unreported, lay-offs across the IT industry, and the impact it could have had on the careers of our visually challenged friends. Congrats, Shashi, you have made all of us proud... Please send your appreciative messages / best wishes to shashika...@aditi.com.
