Zomato is also accessible, and I use it frequently. Here’s a tutorial for
Zomato. If anyone is facing accessibility issues in IPhone, try enabling screen
recognition—it might help.

get that instamart tab in the swigi app itself. Swigi is accessible atleest
very much accessible than blinkit, zepto, and zamato.

Hi,

no much difference between zamato and blinkit.

at least we can pull up the context menu for chosen items on zamato to add to
the kart but no words to express on the blinkit on apple i O S.anyway, the
entire app can be accessed through the explore by touch instead swipes.

1. you can find the search box to the right top corner of your device.

2. activate the search and find the items. note: above the keyboard, results
are displayed.

3. select your choice and go to the bottom right to add to kart.

luckily increase/decrease quantity buttons can find on your bottom right side
of the screen.

4. again, explore to go to kart and follow the on screen instructions to
continue to the payment.

RE: [AI] Usefull app for mobility

2024-09-02 Thread minalsinghvi
I've tried this before, even today, but the issue persists. When we record a
map and start navigation, if we deviate from the path, the app sometimes guides
us backward. For example, I have a map from the living room to the kitchen. If
I start from the middle of the living room and there are two doors, the app
might take me through the wrong door. When I follow the app's directions, I end
up facing a wall instead of the kitchen.

Hi

I installed the app. I now understand, it requires an NFC card to create a
route, This was not touched in the video. Secondly, don't know how much of
duration of the route one can do at one go and from how much distance far away
it can give navigation? For now I have my own reservation regarding the real
utility of this solution.

RE: [AI] Old Age Home for retired blind persons starting in Delhi

2024-08-08 Thread minalsinghvi
This initiative by NAB Delhi is truly commendable. It's a dream come true for
many, including myself. I especially appreciate that it's a paid program, as
paying participants ensures access to quality facilities and the ability to ask
questions. When I see some senior persons near me, I always feel that they,
too, want to celebrate life as they did before. However, due to social reasons,
health issues, and a lack of suitable company, they couldn't. If people of a
similar age live together, I imagine it would be really good for them, and I
think they would enjoy it immensely. NAB has our full support and best wishes.

Its good we are discussing this issue-Udit

1. Many of my senior friends not Blind have chosen to go to Senior Citizen
living facilities. These people have made a choice for various reasons.
2. Many children move their parent or parents to such facilities for many
reasons not necessarily that they don’t want to give love to such seniors.
3. You will have to grow a little older to understand the importance of
all these reasons.
4. At this stage I can only say it is a great initiative. I wish there was
something like this near Mumbai and I could book it until I qualified since I
am not a senior citizen as yet.

hi all,

congrats to NAB. for there initiative. I dont cair what you and how you want to
call it as. It should sirv its basic purpose. To give shelter to The PWDS.

I wanted to donate a little amount so. If possible can the representatives
reach me off the list.

I dont want to go out of the subject. But still. I want to ask that why do we
need these kind of homes? why you have to leave your blind guardians parents or
any relation for that matter in these places? Why can't we take cair of them?
there is a saying that "a little love and cair can make a large difference in
our lives" so, why not that love and cair? just that they are old, how can
anyone leave them alone.

We can't ignore a fact that no matter how comfortable and wel maintained these
facilities are, they cannot replace a family's love. after all, "a house is
built on love not morter or bricks".

Note: I am sorry if anyone in any kind, felt bad. Or felt that my words hert
them. My intention was not like that. I just presented my feelings in words
nothing elce.

But, again my hartyiest congratulation to nab for there good thoughts.

Thanks,

Udit.

Now you really got me started! Byriani, there’s just no way I’ll eat that with
spoon! Not even at gunpoint! :) Seriously, South African Indians have mastered
the art of making byriani like no where else I have seen. And those from Durban
are still the best at making it. My wife is from Guyana in South America and no
matter how I encourage her to make it, she does not want to take on the
challenge to perfect the art. Apparently the secret lies in spicing the night
before and allowing the veggies to soak up the spicing over-night, possibly in
a cooler. Alternatively my mother cooks the rice and veggies together with the
required spicing, then she tosses the whole thing in the oven on very low heat
for 2 hours to fully cook very slowly. The rice and veggies are fully dry yet
fluffy and not sticky at all so that nothing clumps together. And that flavour!
Man! Even though my mother is now aging she does a fantastic byriani.

And again I’ll only eat that with fingers. On my final trip from South Africa
to India in November 2022, the guy carrying my road food in my hand luggage
actually stole it and must have enjoyed it like nothing in his life ever
before. He’s going to hell for stealing that byriani! Aish! Now I’m going mad
here just thinking about it!

Over and out! :)

Hi,

This is a very interesting topic that has been brought up.

I myself was going to ask about this on the group.

I personally think my table manners are okay but there are certain items I
struggle with.

I cannot eat a pastry with a spoon especially if it is too creamy.

I will ruin the poor thing, lol!

It becomes a kind of kichadi, my mom has tried to teach me how to break its
pieces while maintaining its shape but my nervous system hasn't got it yet.

So then, if at home at-least I just chuck the spoon and hold it in my 2 fingers
to avoid spoiling my entire hand and start eating.

I also struggle to make small pieces with my fork if the piece like chicken's
is not soft or well shaped.

It starts dangling which is not a good sign according to rules of
sophistication.

But I do agree that beeing too conscious will also ruin the mood, people will
feel that insecurity from us.

And for eating with hand, there is a trend to eat biryani with hand.

Just my opinions.

Best,

Saurav

Same with me most of the time—I also prefer to eat with my fingers. However,
for certain juicy items like dal chawal or upma, I use a bowl and spoon. Even
with idly, if I'm eating it with sambar, I ask for a soup bowl, dip the idly,
mix it with chutney, and use a spoon. If I want to eat the idly separately, I
eat it with my hands and hold the sambar bowl in my left hand, drinking a small
amount with each bite. Apart from that, I mostly enjoy eating with my fingers.
One more thing I've noticed: whenever I eat with a spoon, I hold the bowl in my
left hand, and if I'm eating from a plate, I hold a tissue in my left hand. I
use to follow this way consistently.

Actually, I think we should do what feels right to us, not just with eating but
in every aspect, whether it's clothing or dining. There is one thing I believe:
we should always keep ourselves well-maintained, wearing neat and good clothes,
being well-dressed, and keeping ourselves neat.

People,

This is just my opinion and how I live my life. You don’t have to agree.

As much as I cannot avoid being blind, I prefer living my life being
comfortable with what works for me, and this includes dining.

Mostly I use my fingers to eat. Whatever context I find myself in, I am even
ready to announce: I eat best with my fingers, and it’s an art. I pick up rice
with my finger-tips without dropping, which is something many who are used to
knife and fork cannot do. (At this point I might chuckle slightly as I
gracefully remove the knife or fork or even spoon from my plate.) So thanks for
the invitation to dine with the team! Then I dig into that meal, with dignity
and pride to eat with my fingers, smiling with confidence all the way, and not
hesitating to contribute to the light-hearted dinner table discussions or
perhaps business meetings that might occur.

To those who think I am below their so-called dignity, you like me, you don’t
like me, because may be I look strange eating differently, then hey let that be
your problem, but I’ll be cheerful all the way through. High-minded people will
appreciate me for who I am. I’ve learnt through my life to be confident about
who I am, and in the beginning people might resist me, gradually tolerate me,
and eventually even love me for who I am. At least, those will be the people
who matter to me.

Let me share my story at the bank where I worked.

I used to work for First National Bank in South Africa. I never hid my identity
as a Hare Krishna devotee, nor was I shy about my blindness. These were both
abnormalities in the predominantly African country where I lived.

Gradually people would notice me walking the corrordoors during my lunch
breaks, or after work while waiting for my transport, softly mouthing the Hare
Krishna Mahamantra. Eventually it became normal for them. Eventually some began
asking questions about my belief systems, and even took books to read about it.
When I was retrenched due to a decision from head-office which forced 5 blind
people and 1 deaf person at back offices from around the country to lose our
jobs, there were many who visibly displayed unhappiness at my leaving, with
some of the ladies even crying when I walked out. I had to cheer them up with
assurances that I will be fine and that I have God’s protection with me.

Point being for me at least which worked: Be who you are, be comfortable in
your skin, so comfortable in fact that others will not help loving your
confidence in your differences from them.

Yes you’ll get the occasional scoff, snide remark, or statements of lack of
confidence regarding your visible challenges. Take those with a grain of salt,
and look past them. Those will not make you, so not worth your contemplation
anyway.

Do you know, eating with your fingers is the best method for digestion? It’s
the most natural way, and we were created to do that. As your fingers touch the
food, it promotes your salivation in your mouth: the touch stimulates by the
temperature, texture and contemplation of picking up the

Google gemini is quite accessible and pretty fast. Simply type
gemini.google.com on the address bar and hit enter.

The gemini page comes up with focus on the prompt edit field. Type your
question or instruction and press enter. You may follow the same type of prompt
as in chat gpt.

Gemini will say "Gemini is typing" to assure you that it is working on your
prompt.

Soon gemini will say, "Gemini has replied."

Press insert+z to come back to virtual cursor and press h to access the heading
1 where you will find your prompt and the reply below it. There is a listen
button which you can activate to listen to the reply. It works in many Indian
languages also.

If you have any follow up question, press the letter e to go to the prompt
field and type in your prompt.

For a new question I prefer using the new chat option.

Hello, A few days before I joined a 5 km marathon, my helper held my palm and
fingers. I wore running shoes and a very light costume t-shirt they provided,
along with comfortable track pants. The way he held my hand was very
comfortable because when he held my arms, our legs kept touching while running,
which was disturbing. Holding my palm maintained a good distance and I enjoyed
the run more.

"The Running Tether" is a bungee cord that connects two runners, helping them
stay together and maintain the same pace. It features adjustable length,
elastic material, and comfortable handles or belts. It improves safety,
motivation, and communication, and is especially useful for guiding visually

RE: [AI] A pleasant surprise: It's not just shower gel, and no this is not off-topic for the blind!!

2024-04-27 Thread minalsinghvi
Yes, it's a pleasant moment for us when we can easily manage these kinds of
products without needing anyone's help. Even though I don't read Braille
quickly, I can still understand when I run my fingers over it. But,

Savlon has Braille markings on some of their products for over five years, such
as the hand wash and antiseptic gel. At the Radio Udaan convention, we
distributed these products to raise awareness in our community. However, when
we approached Savlon to extend this feature to all their products, they
mentioned that there is very little demand for such products. It's
disheartening that while we advocate for accessibility publicly, there seems to
be minimal interest when it comes to actual usage. Only a few people here
inquire about accessible products.

Minal

Subject: [AI] A pleasant surprise: It's not just shower gel, and no this is not
off-topic for the blind!!

Hi friends,

A few weeks back, my wife bought some shower gel on Amazon. Seemed like an
ordinary event and I thought nothing of it.

When the package arrived, my eldest son excitedly brought it to me. “Baba!
Baba! Come check this out” he exclaimed as he put the bottle into my hands.

Not thinking much of it I asked “What is this?” without much examination of the
bottle. “sShower gel” he said, still excited. “Feel the bottle”.

Somehow I still didn’t catch on, as I fingered lamely around the bottle’s
edges. “Ok Nice”, I said. “Go pack this away now”.

“No! Feel the face of the bottle. Feel properly.” He insisted. I now knew
something was up so with more alertness I carefully examined the face of the
bottle.

Before I could even figure it out he exclaimed “Braille!” And he was right. Not
just that, but both the front face and on the rear face had a whole lot of
braille.

On the front face across the short side was written in short single lines as
follows:

Fiama

Shower

Gel

On the opposite face, this time along the length of the bottle was written,
again in beautiful braille letters along the length of the bottle this time:

Patchouli

And macadamia

It was uncontracted, no capitalization of letters, the dots felt somewhat faded
on the plastic label, but still it was a pleasant surprise indeed. Coming to
India I wasn’t sure I would ever see beautiful braille again, here in the
village of Vrindavana.

Just for this fact I would like to keep buying this product, to simply say
thank you for remembering us on the fringes of society, while most others see
us as nothing more than disabled people that might at least be able to sing for
some handout. We now bought 4 bottles in total for the moment, and every
morning I can’t help running my fingers over the braille when I take some out
to shower my body. It just feels so warmly familiar.

Just wanted to share this small yet heart-warming story of my own personal
experience.

With kind regards,

Yamuna Jivana dasa

RE: [AI] Hi, According to you which is better Web Whatsapp or the app of Whatsapp for windows? Please note I am using NVDA with Windows 10. I do not use JAWS. Regards.

2024-04-22 Thread minalsinghvi
I have been using the WhatsApp Windows app with NVDA for quite some time now,
and I haven't needed any assistance to log in. It's completely accessible and
very easy to use. That's why I'm giving my vote for Windows app for WhatsApp
with NVDA. app.

I wish to recommend the desktop version of whatsapp. which gives a tremendous
accessibility experience.

nvda does the best job and contains few add-ons which helps you to navigate
quickly between the messages and other features.

RE: [AI] accessible equipment to make tea and coffee

2024-03-30 Thread minalsinghvi
Hello Aman,
There are numerous companies like Girnar offering ready-to-drink pouches. You
simply need to boil water and add one pouch per cup. They offer a variety of
options such as ginger tea, masala tea, coffee, and kada. I often use these
while traveling, and sometimes I also use their soups as well.

Subject: [AI] accessible equipment to make tea and coffee

Hi all! I am desired to make tea and coffee at my own. But problem is that, my
parents do not allow to do this on the gas stove due to my 100% vision
impairment, while anyone argue with them as much as possible. That’s why I need
information about any alternate option, like any accessible equipment to make
tea and coffee, so I can do this seamlessly without facing any issue. Please
suggest me any alternate option to do this. One more thing, someone asked about
coffee machine several months before, then someone suggested him for Tata
chroma branded for the same. I want to know that, may I also make tea in that
coffee machine, and also tell me the exact model of that product. Thanks.
