Post Graduate Diploma in Media & Disability Communication

Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped, 
(AYJNIHH) Mumbai, has envisaged a long term training for the Media and 
Communication professionals in "Media & Disability Communication" in 
collaboration with University of Mumbai. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) 
to this effect was signed between AYJNIHH and University of Mumbai at 
10.00am, on 1st of August'09 at a function organized in Management Council 
Room of Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan, University of Mumbai, Vidyanagari, 
Mumbai-98. The MoU was signed in the presence of Vice Chancellor, Dr. Vijay 
Khole, Dr. V.N. Magare, Director Board of College and University 
Development, Prin.K.Venkataramani, Registrar from University of Mumbai and 
Prof. R.Rangasayee, Director, AYJNIHH-Mumbai were present.

Speaking at the function, R.Rangasayee, Director, AYJNIHH-Mumbai 
highlighted the significance of the training Globally and Locally. To 
implement the guidelines of the United Nations Convention, on the Rights of 
Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) vide article 8 on 'awareness raising', 
article 9 on 'accessibility' and article 21 on 'access to information', this 
is the first organized effort to create a cadre of Media Professionals to 
address disability issues. This training program will also meet the needs of 
section IV of the Persons with Disabilities Act 1995 and the National Policy 
on Persons Disabilities 2006 section 11.A and 51.XI that emphasize on 
raising awareness, dissemination of information and accessibility.

Dr. V.N. Magare expressed his appreciation and thanked 
ecstatically both AYJNIHH and the Department of Communication and Journalism 
of Mumbai University, for their efforts in taking initiative in starting 
this course, which is a good service to humanity. This is the first of its 
kind of effort made in this direction by the University, he said.

This one year Post Graduate Diploma course will be conducted in the academic 
year 2009-10, at AYJNIHH-Mumbai in collaboration with Department of 
Communication and Journalism, University of Mumbai. The students with Post 
Graduate Diploma or Graduation in Journalism & Mass Communication/Public 
Relations are eligible to apply for this course. For course details
