The vOICe runs on android phones natively. IN the play store, search for " seeingwithsound" you are looking for the app called the vOICe by Dr. Peter B.L. Meijer. Re: [AI] About ESight eyewear
Aravind, I am one of the few regular users of the vOICe. You only need the vOICe for windows and not the audio screen add-on. There is a learning curve but it is like learning any language. 1. The panning of the sound maps to the position of objects from left to right. If you hear a sound on your left, you know that there is an object on your left. 2. The pitch of the sound maps to height so the higher the pitch, the higher the object in your frame of view. 3. The volume maps to brightness, the louder the sound, the brighter the object. Load the app on your phone and try it. Just for information, we at NAB Delhi have begun testing a virtual reality like headset with Samsung hardware. It can provide good vision to people with weak eyesight. It is not for the totally blind as yet. There is a gentleman in Coimbatore who has developed smart glasses for the totally blind. These glasses will help mobility, reading and recognizing people. He will be doing a workshop with totally blind individuals in Delhi some time in November. The glasses are likely to be priced around Rs20k. Will share more information as we get closer to the date. This sounds very promising. -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Aravind R Sent: Thursday, September 12, 2019 7:07 AM To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerning the disabled. Re: [AI] About ESight eyewear
Friends, Regarding ESight eyewear, I had personally invited the person dealing with the device from Kolkata and he charged Rs.1000 per as a group otherwise 2500 per person and as it was an Ngo, I tried along with 25 students of my trust and few were able to see better and totally blind couldn't see anything. The persons who were able to see better could not afford 8.5 lakh for the device. So I feel it is waste of time and money to for this testing and giving false hopes to partially blind that their vision would be regained is giving again false promises. -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Swarna Muthuraj Sent: Wednesday, September 11, 2019 8:16 AM To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerning the disabled. Dear friends, Has anyone heard about the ESight eyewear, electronic glasses for the legally blind, as they advertise themselves? They claim that visually impaired can see and lead a normal life using these glasses. ESight India gives a Kolkata address and phone number. The number is 9830004727. They quote Rs 2,500 for trial and their glasses cost Rs 8.25 lakh with 3 year warranty. Has anyone tried this product? I tried their number but nobody picked up, but then they whatsapped their details asking where I am located so they could give a trial. Looking forward to feedback from you friends. There are often so many tricksters promising all sorts of things.
