Re: [AI] Anyone proficient in Java with screen readers?
Hi, to learn java, you must install one of the java sdk version and java access bridge, and add appropriate values to windows environment variables. To write a program in java, you only need windows notepad. Use windows command prompt to compile your program. When you are dealing with command prompt, NVDA provides more flexibility than jaws. According to my opinion, Thinking in java by *Bruce Eckel* is the best book available for beginners. In most advanced level, you can use accessible integrated development environments like java eclipse. Re: [AI] Anyone proficient in Java with screen readers?
Dear Vamshi, I don't know any specific tutorials for Java with screen readers, however any normal tutorials will do. Java is being little complex language, your friend may require some initial guidance in terms of programming constructs. So, before going to Java your friend should know: 1. What is computer in depth. Like, what is an OS?, how computer works? And input / output processes etc. 2. What is language?, why language? 3. What is a computer programme? And how it works? 4. What is object oriented programming? After knowing above mentioned things, your friend can follow below tutorials. http://www.tutorialspoint.com/java/ Screen reader is no worry. Initially use notepad or any good text editor like Edit+ to write code. Use command prompt to compile and execute the programmes. Later an IDE like Eclipse can be used for everything like to write code, compile and execute etc. Kind Regards, Nitin -- From: Vamshi. Re: [AI] Anyone proficient in Java with screen readers?
I believe as she has done b tech, she might be knowing all the basic step you've mention below. And I also considered that java programming should also be included in any semester of b tech. any ways, thanks a tonne for providing really nice tutorial regarding java programming. And though java is little complex programming, this programming language is one of the vary powerful language. And as it is the language, it is nothing to do with the accessibility of jaws or other screen reader. All you need is the good practice over the language. -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Vamshi. Re: [AI] Anyone proficient in Java with screen readers?
Hi Vamshi and all, Please note the following. 1. You can write java in any text editor incluuding notepad. You could even write a java program in a line editor such as ed. 2. Many programmers use eclipse as an accessible IDE for writing java code. 3. You only need the accessbridge if you are using the swing API to create a user interface for your program. In terms of accessibility, the best option is to use SWT to create the user interface since SWT uses native methods that is operating system specific methods to render controls.. 4. There is a website for blind programmers. It is http://www.nonvisualdevelopment.org. You will find accessibility related resources for several languages including java. Finally, people, java does not equal swing. Swing is a set of libraries to create a graphical user interface. You use java in several other contexts such as writing programs for mobile phones, writing servlets on websites etc. Swing and SWT are pc based libraries.
