Re: [AI] data recovery suggestions needed.
dear friends, I feel happy to tell that I could recover all the data from a hard drive which got unformatted lost week. I used GetDataBack. diskgetor and Stellar Phoenix NTFS Data Recovery also work fine. all of these give the exact folder structure as it is. recuva is not good specially in case of multiple and complicated folder structure as it won't give the directory structure. its recovery performance is also poor. special thanks to sunil sangtani, Sheik mohammedali and Divyanshu Ganatra for their kind help in this task. I am also thankful to Lissy Verghese, Prashanth, Rajesh Asudani, Pranav Lal and all those who gave their ideas and contributed directly or indirectly for the solution. with thanks, Umesha - Original Message - From: Pranav Lal pranav@gmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Saturday, 15 December, 2012 9:57 AM Subject: Re: [AI] urgent! data recovery suggestions needed. Hi, 1. Grab a Linux live cd. GRML works nicely. 2. Boot from that and see if you can access the device. 3. If you can, pull the files from the drive. If you can't, make a forensically safe image using the dd utility and then experiment on that image. You may also find the following podcasts helpful. [AI] Data recovery utility for MS word
Hello all, I was working on a Word document until a while ago, when Word crashed. When Jaws started talking again, Word wasn't open. When I opened it, the files it had recovered did not include the document I was working on. And when I opened the document from the original location, it was totally blank. Is there some utility that will let me recover the 12 pages of data that was in the document? I looked at various free utilities available on the Net, but they don't seem to do the job or are not sufficiently accessible. Any help would be much appreciated. Re: [AI] Data recovery utility for MS word
Geetha, Twice I have recovered a corrupted word or excel file the following way. I use office 2003 and windows xp, do not know if it would work for other versions. When we are editing in an existing excel or word file, it creates temporary files in the same folder the names of which start with ~ and has extension as .tmp. I believe these are the various versions either windows/office creates while you edit and save. You can see these files if your explorer settings in the folder optionsView tab is set to show hidden files. When you close the file you were working on, these temporary files automatically get deleted. Once my computer crashed, and when it restarted, my file I was working on wont open. But these ~ files were there, which were similar in size as the original file. I renamed one removing the ~ and changing its extension to .doc/.xls, then opened it, and I was smiling. I checked the rest of the ~ files, and found the version which had most of my work. See if this helps you. And after that I did not forget to turn on the auto backup feature in my and my team's systems. best, Pranay. - Original Message - From: Geetha Shamanna gee...@millernorbert.de To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Saturday, June 04, 2011 9:03 PM Subject: [AI] Data recovery utility for MS word Hello all, I was working on a Word document until a while ago, when Word crashed.
