RE: [AI] Guidance required for 44-year-old sudden blind
Hi Shadab, What did this person do at the bank? Rehabilitation is the key. For all we know, he can get his old job back. Be warned, there are massive emotional challenges with being blind and if needed, get him psychological help. I do not know who would provide such assistance in India. Try the help line run by the score foundation. The NV access store has the definitive tutorials on NVDA. There are several YouTube videos on NVDA as well. Jaws has a massive amount of documentation too. What rank was this person in the navy? What is the status of his vision? Glaucoma can be usually arrested giving the sufferer some stability in vision. He is 12th pass, has worked for 7 years in merchant navy and then in a Dubai bank till 2018 when glaucoma started dimming his eyesight. He has taken mobility and computer courses from NIVH, Dehradun. Re: [AI] Guidance required for 44-year-old sudden blind
Hi, He is 44 now and doing graduation will take another 3 years. He will be 47 then and would cross the age limit for getting a government job. Doing graduation for better job opportunities may not be a viable option. - Original Message - From: "Khandu Bhandare" To: Cc: Sent: Wednesday, May 24, 2023 4:04 PM Subject: Re: [AI] Guidance required for 44-year-old sudden blind I'm sorry to hear about the challenges your friend has been facing. Adjusting to blindness can be difficult, but there are still many possibilities and opportunities available for him. Here are some suggestions: Rehabilitation Services: Encourage him to seek additional training and support from organizations that specialize in assisting individuals with visual impairments. These organizations can provide him with further training on screen readers, mobility skills, and other necessary tools to enhance his independence and employability. Vocational Rehabilitation: He can explore vocational rehabilitation programs that provide assistance and resources for individuals with disabilities to find suitable employment. These programs may offer career counseling, job placement assistance, and support in developing the necessary skills for specific job roles. Entrepreneurship: Starting a business again might be a viable option. However, he should consider the lessons learned from his previous venture. Before starting a new venture, he could focus on developing a solid business plan, ensuring he has reliable staff or partners who can support him consistently, and taking advantage of any available resources for entrepreneurs with disabilities. Online Opportunities: With his computer skills and training, he can explore online job opportunities or freelancing in fields that align with his expertise. Many professions can be done remotely, and he can leverage his experience in the merchant navy and banking sectors to find suitable online work. Support Networks: Encourage him to connect with support groups, organizations, and communities that cater to individuals with visual impairments. These networks can provide valuable guidance, mentorship, and resources for navigating life with blindness and pursuing career opportunities. Further Education: If he is interested in expanding his knowledge and skills, he could consider pursuing higher education in a field that interests him. Many universities and colleges offer programs and accommodations for visually impaired students. Adaptive Technology: Familiarizing himself with screen readers and other adaptive technology is crucial for accessing information and performing tasks independently. He can continue to improve his skills by practicing regularly and seeking assistance from experts or training programs. It's important to remind your friend that many individuals who experience late blindness have been able to adapt and excel in their lives. With determination, perseverance, and support, he can find new avenues for personal and professional growth.
