[AI] Help required with JAWS 14 on Windows 8

2013-12-11 Thread Ekinath Khedekar
Hi

I have recently started using Windows 8 on Lenovo Thinkpad 420 and as
expected there are some glitches that I am facing.

Firstly, JAWS is speaking extra, like if enter the folder it gives
extra info which is not even fathomable.

Secondly, I installed Australian and UK female vocalisers but they are
not really great. Can you suggest any better?

Thirdly and most importantly; I need to extract data from from some
sides, where I need to select a calendar date in a “read only edit
box” is necessary. I could deal with it earlier using web ie, an
accessible browser, but couldn’t find its version for Windows 8.
Therefore, please suggest a way to solve it. I am pasting a sample RBI
link where currency rates for a range of dates are required. Please
see if you can help me.

Sample link for RBI currency spots
http://www.rbi.org.in/scripts/ReferenceRateArchive.aspx

Fourthly, do share a link or a document to optimise JAWS usage on
Windows 8. Like avoiding extra talking etc.

Thanks and regards
Ekinath

To add word in the JAWS dictionary, do the following:
1. Press INSERT+D to open the JAWS dictionary file
2. Press CTRL+SHIFT+D to open the default JAWS dictionary file.
3. Press ALT+A to activate the "Add" button.
4. Enter the word in the "Actual Word" edit box.
5. Press TAB and move to the "Replacement With" edit box.
6. Enter another word in replacement of actual word. Press SPACEBAR if
you want to silent JAWS for the particular word.
7. Finally activate the "OK" button by hitting ALT+O command.

Now coming to the vocalizer voices I have tested all vocalizer voices
available on the Freedom Scientific website. But I only fine Tom as
better vocalizer voice amongst all.

Add unnecessary words in the JAWS dictionary to stop JAWS speaking
those words which you do not want to hear.

Try Tom vocalizer voice. I find this voice much better compared to
other vocalizer voices.
