Hi, I think one needs to separate the process of marriage and having their own biological offspring. One can get married to a disabled/ non-disabled, sighted/ blind partner etc. but life doesn't run on emotions/ philosophy alone. I think it is perfectly fine so long as two people are comfortable marrying each other despite their inherent genetic conditions but going for their own biological offspring in such cases is a very selfish decision. It not only puts the child at a higher risk of disability without their consent but also makes the future generations susceptible to the conditions in which they actually had no say at all. Can't help but respect the couples with genetic conditions who choose to adopt a child! Certainly sir, genetic causes are at play in consanguineous marriages also. The Hindu did a report on this and we have had long discussion on Access India inn the past. Many countries in the Arab World, west asia and in southern Indian states have families where more than one member is disabled. Avinash, the primary cause behind it is marriages between first cousins and it is common in muslim families. In Pakistan number of mentally retired children is increasing just because of this first cousin marriages. The report is incomplete or the reporter may frightened to raise this point.
