Re: [AI] Loans to differently abled persons will be treated as priority sector - The Economic Times
Hello everybody The various categories of priority sector are as under: (i) Agriculture (ii) Micro and Small Enterprises (iii) Education (iv) Housing (v) Export Credit (vi) Others The limit of loan under each category is also mentioned in the master circular (link appended already by somebody). Here is the classification of housing loan for priority sector since one of our friends Mr. Ekanath had asked: Loans to individuals up to ` 25 lakh in metropolitan centres with population above ten lakh and ` 15 lakh in other centres for purchase/construction of a dwelling unit per family excluding loans sanctioned to bank’s own employees. The category of Others contains some loans where there is a ceiling of Rs. 50, 000. As regards interest rates, it is to be decided by the individual banks and only for agricultural loans, there is interest subvention available. Re: [AI] Loans to differently abled persons will be treated as priority sector - The Economic Times
Dear Rahul and Hemanshu, Thanks for the additional info provided. How should this policy be implemented? I mean: 1. It would be applicable retrospectively? I am paying home loan EMIs since April 2014. Can I request my bank, Bank of Baroda to implement this policy and adjust my cost of loan (interest paid) so far? 2. If not, then are they at least liable to reduce interest rate hereon and therefore reduce my EMIs from this month? 3. What is the best way to effect this. Should I speak to the branch managers who are usually not well-informed on new policies or it is better to have top-bottom approach. Should I write to the MD BoB directly? Regards, with thanks... This provision is effective from today. "It has been decided that priority sector loans to persons with disabilities will be eligible for classification under weaker sections category," RBI said in a note to commercial banks excluding regional rural banks. RBI guidelines stipulate banks to lend 10% of adjusted net bank credit or credit equivalent amount of their off-balance sheet exposure, whichever is higher, to the weaker section. This is a sub-target within the 40% priority sector norms for banks. Foreign banks with less than 20 branches are exempted from complying with this sub-target. Lending to small and marginal farmers, artisans, village and cottage industries where individual credit limits do not exceed Rs 50,000, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes and self help groups are also considered as weaker section loans. Re: [AI] Loans to differently abled persons will be treated as priority sector - The Economic Times
Hello Ekinath q. Will the limit be only Rs. 50,000 ? As per the master circular, the Rs. 5 limit is set for certain specified categories schemes/borrowers. Q. Will it include home loans, car loansk, personal loans etc. I mean loan other than business loans? Ans: It is a subcategory of priority sector lending guidelines, As per my understanding it is applicable for all loans classified under priority sector lending. Q: where should we find the actual circular for it? Ans: You may refer to following circulars for more clarification. Hi, sharing my assumption, though not concrete one, as it is difficult to infer without going through actual circular. "1. Does it mean it will have financial impact on the disabled borrower, Like lower interest rates or something?" ans: Most probably! as loans to weeker section do attract subsidy from central gov. from time to time, but rest assured that it will not be higher than bank rates of different banks even without subsidy... "2. Will the limit be only Rs. 50,000 ?" ans: up to 50,000 will be subsidized and beyond that may be free for bank to charge as per their internal policy... "3. Will it include home loans, car loansk, personal loans etc. I mean loan other than business loans?" ans: difficult to confirm without seeing circular. "4.
