[AI] May be of interest for visually impaired car owners

2019-10-22 Thread Prashant Ranjan Verma
Dear all,

As a visually impaired car owner we have been facing various challenges such
as keeping track of the distance travelled by the car, history of trips
undertaken by the car, over speeding by the driver, current location of the
car, checking if any maintenance or replacement is required and more.

Recently cars are coming with connectivity features. They have a mobile sim
embedded in them which sends various types of data to the mobile app.

This development is a good news for us. This has opened up the possibility
of keeping a better control over the car. This can help us ensure more
safety and security and reduce expenses.

As always the level of access is dependent upon the accessibility of the
mobile app. Recently I purchased a new car and I am happy to be able to
checkout lot of useful information about the car whenever I want without
depending upon others.

Some of the features I have explore in the UVO app available with KIA car so
far are listed below. Note that I am not an expert on this. The
accessibility in the KIA app is limited, I cannot comment on the
accessibility of the other connected cars offered by MG, Hyundai etc. And
accessibility I guess will vary with every upgrade.

Overall, I think cars going digital is a good news for us and we can look
forward to more independence, one step closer to driving the car .

Possibilities:

- Locating the car by starting its horn and lights

- Sending map location to car for navigation

- Setting geo fence for the car

- History of trips taken by the car

- Idle time - engine running but no travel

- Excessive speeding by the car

- Hard braking by the car

- Rapid acceleration by the car

- Tyre pressure status

- Remotely locking or unlocking the car

- Remotely starting the car ac

- Receiving car maintenance alerts

- Receving vehicle health report

- Sending SOS message to selected contacts in emergency

best wishes for Diwali,

Re: [AI] May be of interest for visually impaired car owners

2019-10-22 Thread Prashant Ranjan Verma
I think this is a new technology which car manufacturers are adopting. As
per my information this year three cars have been launched with these
features.
They are Hyundai Venue - approx.. 10 lakhs, MG hector approx.. 18 lakhs, Kia
seltos approx. 18 lakhs.
In the near future I think most cars in the 8 lakhs and above range will
come with these features.
Some after market solutions are also likely to be available for existing
cars. However, when the technology comes from the manufacturer itself, it
is more closely integrated with the car and works better.

Thanks,
Prashant

You are mistaken, I am not talking about self driving car at all. I have just
shared some information about the internet connectivity feature of new cars.
This feature can be used by blind persons to know more about the car such as
distance travelled, speed, location etc.

Hi Prashant, do these cars completely self driven? How it could find a parking
or how it moves without any human assistant?
Does it works same as Auto pilot mode in Aeroplanes?

No such declaration is required, I own two cars.
I can assign anybody of my choice, relative or not, to drive, or I may keep it
ideal, it's my choosing.

Dear All

Those of you who dont have smart cars can buy some additional accessories
and make it accessible. you can lakhs of rupees...its recession now so
spend judiciously. The new cars are just integrating separately available
accessories into their systems. if your car is old then you can definitely
buy the after market stuffs.

thanks
