Please audio describe the show, anybody? -Original Message- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Pradeep Gupta Sent: Tuesday, August 21, 2012 2:32 PM To: accessindia; neha agarwal Subject: [AI] Mockery Of V C Persons In Comedy Circus Dear friends, all of you must be familiar with the famous comedy show titled Comedy Circus telecast by Soni TV on Sunday nights at 9 P. M. Indian Standard Time. But I feel pained to draw your attention to a so called Comic Act performed by well-known comedian duo, Sudesh Lehri and Krishna. In this act, the visually challenged community was portrayed in an intolerably humiliating manner, as the two comedians acted as a blind couple trying to celebrate their Suhag Raat [First night after marriage]. They left no stone unturned while making blatant fun of the visually challenged persons, while in the background was being played a popular Hindi film song, Tayray Mast Mast Doe Nain. All this act could succeed was making a farce of everything including itself. Still the audience almost fell off their seats while laughing, and even the two judges, Archna Pooran Singhh and Sohel Khan went all out to praise the act and even gave the performers 100 percent marks. I wonder why the script writer could not find a decent base for his script, and how the show's director allowed such an indecent, and, even cruel performance. Has the level of the general social awareness and sensibilities dropped so low? Is it an other proof of the media's irresponsible and inhuman attitude? I am not against comedy, being aimed at celebrities in good humor, but making one full community the target of mockery is far beyond the limits of tolerance. Where are our friends from the legal fraternity? I would strongly urge Madam Kanchan Pamnani, Mr. Subhash Vashisht, Javed Abidi, Rajesh Asudani, L. Subramani and all others to come up with not only their suggestions, but also actions. Regards. Pradeep Gupta. Re: [AI] Mockery Of V C Persons In Comedy Circus
Dear List, I haven't seen the comedy show for lack of time, but if what Akhil has narrated is true, it is only reinforcement of stereotypes and myths about persons with vision impairment, the way several movies and shows on different channels continue to make fun of persons with different sexual orientations. The two may be uniquely different but that analogy can be drawn here. This needs to stop and the message from our community has to go firm and hard. I suggest a legal notice to Sony or a show cause notice from a legal body like CCPD. Unless checked and nipped in the bud and a loud noise created in the social media and through media friends, these incidences will continue to appear at one or the other forum. Re: [AI] Mockery Of V C Persons In Comedy Circus
Hi all, I think that comidy should not be politicised. If anybody is making fun of visually impaired people, will all of them become like that in reality? It is a show which seeks to entertain people, and not play with anybody's feelings. If we have shows like comidy circus, then we also have shows like Satyamev jayate which highlight the real picture. Raheem das rightly said: jo badan ko laghu kahe, nahin rahiman ghatjaay, Girdhar murlidhar kahe, kachhu dukh manat naay. Meaning: if you call a big person small, he will not decrease in size. You call Krishna as murlidhar (flute holder), instead of girdhar (mountain holder), but he doesn't feel offended at all! These are my personal views, and are in no way meant to defend comidy circus or any other show. I have written what ever I thought right. Please forgive me if anybody feels offended. Re: [AI] Mockery Of V C Persons In Comedy Circus
Hi friends, Thanks for your replies. Here is the download link for the full episode of Kahani Comedy Circus Ki Semifinal telecast on 12th August:-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_SqjRMsb-A It is not like politicizing the issue, since we are not trying to derive any political advantage out of it. We all know that even Lord Krishna immidiately killed Shishu Pal after he hurled 101 abuses on the Lord. I appriciate Avichal's spirit, but everything can not be generalized. If somebody mocks at us publically, and that mockery is telecast worldwide, I see no reason why we should not resent an protest against it. Regards.
