Re: [AI] Need Suggestion
Hi Sajal, As Alok said, first of all you should rid off the idea that you will not be able to pursue career as an IT engineer. I am a PhD student at IIT Delhi...RP patient and working in the field of making STEM (Science, Technology, ENgineering and Mathematics) education accessible with the screen reader NVDA. I would suggest you to switch to NVDA instead of using screen with high contrast and magnifiers. Direct use of screen increases the deterioration rate, which is not good for the RP patients. Recently, we are developing a group which will take up the various projects related to Science and Mathematics accessibility. Please read out the attachment to know more about the group. You are most welcome to join us. The last date to join the group is Feb 28, 2017. Love to have a cool interaction with you. Please feel free to contact me if you want to discuss any challenge. Hi Tilak, The problem is at your end because many of us are able to use the website without any problems with both jaws and nvda. Is the website 100% accessible in terms of the use of the best markup etc.? No, but it is usable without any extra effort. We are going in circles. I need specific details from you as to where you find a problem. Hi, Pay what online? If it is bills, you login to your hdfc bank account, navigate to the bills link and then add your provider. You can then select how much to pay. If it is a funds transfer, then the steps are similar though you will need to add a beneficiary. If however, you are shopping online, and elect to use net banking, then you will be taken to the hdfc website where you follow the regular login process and approve the transaction. Hi Tilak, I routinely use those options without any issues with both jaws and NVDA. In jaws, disable the option to filter consecutive links and then try. As for links appearing on the same line, I have encountered that issue with NVDA. You can use word by word navigation to move to the correct link and press enter. Let us take a feature at a time. Even, if I use NVDA it is really difficult to find Confirm Button by pressing down arrow I always have to use Element List option in NVDA that also sometimes NVDA reads two link together such as, link Confirm and Cancel. dear lists, respectfully, it is to let you know that i'm again facing the serious and tormenting issue regarding my exam. i'm the student of 1st sem of MCA from IGNO univercity. before a couple of months, ignou is not excepting any of my assignment which is printed, assignment has to be in hand written, but after some prayer and petition, they finally permid me to submit my printed assignment now we have the term end exam from 6th december, and i have to appear in exam on 4 subject. but the problem is that i got my writer who will attain my exam on 6th december and 13 december. it meanse that the skribe which i have chosen, will only be able to attain my 2 exams, and i have also issue the permission later for my current writer. but i still haven't get any scribe for my remaining exams. so i have approach my regional director for above problem but he is end up saying that once the permission later has been issue, i won't be able to change my writer and whenever i intend to change my another writer, i need to take the permission from him, which is almost impossible for me, as my house is far from my regional director office, and even examination center. it will take at least more then 3 hours to reach. so i wanted to learn that is there any latest circular which could serve the purpose so that i no longer need to go to the regional director so as to take permission for my every writer? By writing this application I'm not trying to run out of rules and regulation of the guide line pertaining to scribe, yes, i'm trying hard to abide the rules and regulation for scribe, but it will be very cumbersum for us in darjeeling to get by any writer even by paying! That's why I'm very much tensed not for my study, but for the scribe. so i humbly request to the expert that please have a look the above matter and suggest me any fruteful solution as soon as possible. i'm waiting any positive response! [AI] need suggestion for drafting the Policy on work place inclusion of Physically challenged employees at BOB.
Dear list members, There are a substantial number of Physically challenged employees working in Bank of Baroda just like other PSU Banks. With a view to facilitate such employees to be able to perform as per their potential and capabilities and also to provide an enabling environment to them, I have been contemplating for a while to have a uniform policy in this regard in the Bank. In this context, I had put up an approach paper to our head of HR who has very willingly given his approval to dovetail these matters in to a full fledged policy document to be placed before the BORD. I am pasting below the pointers [extracted from the approach paper. Will have to detail out each of these pointers to include them in the policy. I request you to kindly give your valuable suggestions / views on these pointers and whether any of the pointers needs to be added or deleted. Kindly note that this policy is not only for persons with Visual impairment but for PH employees across all the categories. --- Pointers for inclusion in the Policy on "Work Place Inclusion for the Physically Challenged employees" Provisions/facilities proposed to be included in the Policy " The policy would be titled as" policy for Work place inclusion of the Physically challenged employees" and would encompass the following provisions: * Creating an enabling and barrier-free physical environment in the premises like having ramps for people using wheelchairs (to begin with, at major administrative centers / big branches of our Bank); having lifts / elevators with auditory / sound systems, etc. This is also a requirement prescribed by Banking Code and Standard Boards of India. * Providing assistive technology like screen reading computer software,. (JAWS/ NVDA) and scanner, etc. to the visually challenged employees. * Providing hearing aids to the people with hearing impairment * Providing other physical aids in big branches and offices like wheelchair for use in offices/branches to orthopedically challenged employees/customers. * Installation of railings at every corridor/ side walls of Branch/ Office premises to facilitate the Visually Impaired employees as also some Orthopedically Handicapped employees with a view to minimize their dependency level. * Extending certain enablers to these employees like allowing 1 escort (not from the Bank) to the employees who find it difficult to travel alone for on duty travel outside headquarter. * Proper work allocation / identification of certain jobs which the employees with different physical impairments can do / eliminating those jobs which they cannot do. For example, The services of Visually Impaired Officers can be utilized at RLF/ SME LF/ CBOs [these are the loan factories / Back offices of our Banks] wherein they may be entrusted with the job role of analyzing proposals and give their views/ opinion on the viability of the project. Alternately, their services can be utilized at Training Centres depending on their capabilities for imparting training. We can also identify more assignments/job roles in different functions / units of our Bank which can be performed effectively both in clerical as well as officers' cadre. * Conducting periodical conclaves for physically challenged employees so as to keep them engaged and to listen to their aspirations, their participation in Bank's journey. * Providing training [whether functional / computer /attitudinal training ] * Sensitizing the superiors and colleagues of the physically challenged persons through various communication channels. * Incorporating / clearly elaborating the guidelines for placement / deployment of the physically challenged employees in the transfer / deployment policy of the Bank. * De-linking from Staff Welfare fund, the provision of providing special aids and facilities (like hearing aids, artificial limbs, etc.) to the physically challenged employees * Providing not more than 10 Special Casual Leave in a calendar year to the Physically challenged employees to enable them to attend any Medicsl treatment/ therapy pertaining to their physical impairment. This is also as per the directives of the Ministry of finance. I request you to kindly revert to me with your inputs at the earliest. Thanks and warm Regards, Nikita V. Hi Dr. Jalaja, I think that when Persons with So-called Abilities (PWSA) see Persons with So-called Disabilities (PWSD) performing excellently, they tend to feel inferior, and such incidents occur. Dear Jalaja, As I told you on the phone, it's time you purchase a netbook with a printer and use them for your prescriptions, so that they will have no reason to complain against your handwriting. My immediate superior officer, the District Medical Officer is very much supportive for my work. On thursday 17th my second supervisor ,next to D M O visited my institution. She came to my office room and told me that there is a complaint against me . When I asked she replied that the complaint is regarding my handwritting which is not good and the public cannot read it. Immediately I said that I am suffering from central macular degeeneration and due to the field defect the handwritting is like this. Without caring it she constantly harassed me for about 45 minutes in front of my subordinates and the patients who are waiting to consult me. Then she asked the pharmacist to write down the statement and she asked to write down whatever she stated. All these happened in front of a male staff who accompanied her. Then she went to the dispensary and made unnecessary commends about my prescriptions Afterwords she shouted ' I will forward the report to health secretary and the Govt. will make a decision' . When I told that I will take the print of my report, she refused it and strictly ordered to write in front of her When a disabled comes into a competitive position , in spite of all good work why people tend to do so? Re: [AI] Need suggestion
Dear Dr. Jalaja, In my humble opinion, if your supervisor is mature enough, she could have handled this issue in different way (i.e., talking with you personally and helping you in circumventing the identified limitation). When I was googling, I came across this relevant story http://www.californiamedmal-blog.com/2010/10/poor-penmanship-leads-to-medical-prescription-errors.shtml they can allow you provide electronicprescription in your letterhead. May be junior doctors to help you in writing prescriptions. These are all reasonable accomodations, right? Thank You. Your's Sathiya.
