[AI] New training on accessible mobile phone applications announced
Hello all, The second training on mobile phone with Nuance Talks will be conducted at NAB Delhi on 12 May 2012 from 10 am to 5 pm. NAB Delhi Helpline team is an active partner for this training. Few seats are stil available. If you want to do this training then please contact NAB Helpline on 64556968 and register yourself. Please note that we need to configure your mobile with all necessary applications and therefore we may request you to come for a short session on any day before the training day. No accommodation or travel arrangement is available. A registration fee of Rs 300 is payable at the time of the training. More details are given below. Training on accessible mobile applications Saksham announces a one day training module for using accessible applications on the Symbian platform with Nuance Talks screen reading software. The number of visually impaired persons using such phones has grown to several thousands in recent times but it has been observed that people are not making use of all the wonderful features of these phones. For example the GPS application can be a great aid in mobility , newspapers can be read with ease and books can be read with wonderful navigation features but due to lack of awareness & training still a majority of smart phone users among the visually impaired community is not using these facilities. To take the benefit of these technologies to more & more users Saksham Trust, New Delhi is announcing a one day training module on accessible mobile applications. In these trainings hands-on practical training will be provided on using the applications listed below. Experts will also configure the mobile phones of participants for maximum ease of operation. This training will include: 1. Installation & configuration of TALKS 2. Use of the GPS Maps application for navigation 3. reading DAISY & audio books with DAISY2Go 4. Text reading - using different formats 5. Web browsing 6. Newspaper reading in Hindi & English 7. Configuring & using email accounts 8. Using Dictionary (English to English & English to Hindi) 9. setting reminders, &appointments in the Calendar app 10. Contacts management - groups, sending business cards 11. Using the clock - setting alarms 12. Phone Settings and keyboard shortcuts 13. Using the memory card Who are eligible: Any visually impaired person possessing a Talks software enabled mobile phone can undergo this training. People who do not have such phones can buy compatible handsets from the market and buy TALKS software from Saksham. A compatible handset loaded with TALKS is also available at a subsidized price at Saksham. People planning to buy such phones in the near future may also register. They will be invited to the training if such phones can be arranged for them for training purpose. Trainees should bring their TALKS loaded mobile with Internet activation to the training. Training fee per person is Rs. 300. The training fee includes lunch & tea for all participants and payments to the trainers & expenses for the venue. Please note that no accommodation or transport will be provided for this training. People coming from outside Delhi should make their own accommodation arrangements. A training on Android is in the plans. As soon as we have a device that can be recommended we will try to do such a training for it. We feel that Android is the future but affordable & truly accessible devices are yet to arrive. We have been testing several devices and are very optimistic about ice cream sandwitch version of Android. Symbian is here for at least another few years and our observation is that most users are not familiar with all features. Saksham has always come up with beneficial projects for visually impaired people. But in my opinion almost all blind persons are good in using talks. And now there is no future of simbian.
