Opening eyes to blind chess players

A documentary that focuses on the blind chess players of India screened in
the closing week of the Durban International Film Festival (Diff) and drew
much interest in this community. Algorithms was shot over three years and
follows Charudatta Jadhav, a champion chess player from Mumbai, who now
mentors younger players and is championing their cause to become world-
class blind chess players.

Mr. Jadhav is a client with Eyeway and has been associated with us in the
past. He is also one of the people being featured in the TV Serial.

 

Panel presses for disabled quota

The State Commission for Persons with Disabilities asked Utkal University to
implement 3% reservation for disabled persons in appointment of teachers.

 

484 laptops distributed among disabled students

Delhi University has started distributing laptops but only to students
belonging to the persons-with-disability category. As many as 484 laptops
have already been distributed through DU's equal opportunity cell. 


Nigeria adopts WIPO's Copyright Treaty for visually impaired persons

A NIGERIAN delegation on June 27, 2013, joined other International
Negotiators at a Diplomatic Conference convened by the World Intellectual
Property Organisation (WIPO) to adopt a Treaty to facilitate access to
published works by Visually Impaired Persons and Persons with Print
Disabilities (Beneficiary Persons).


Lab-made retina cells functional in mice

Light-sensitive cells found in the retina have been grown from mouse
embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and successfully transplanted into the eyes of
visually impaired mice, restoring some vision.

The Lyndhurst Audible Signal Project is complete, with new accessible

50-year-old Abu Gawere was a welder for the Indian Army, and was afraid he 
would lose his job when his eyesight began to decline. According to Section 47 
of the Disability Act, a person cannot be fired due to his disability, but 
Gawere knew that the Indian Army was exempted from this. Not knowing what to do 
next, he turned to Eyeway.org, who did a little research of their own; and 
found out that civilians employed by the Indian Army cannot be fired due to 
disability. Thanks to the efforts of the team at Eyeway.org, Abu Gawere 
continued in a secure job.


Visually-impaired girl to pursue dream course at Delhi University

Eighteen-year-old Sana Samad is the second student after Kartik Sawnhey to have 
been allowed to pursue mathematics after Class 12 at the Delhi University. Life 
will no longer be a blind alley for Sana Samad, one of the two visually 
impaired students from the city, who opted to study mathematics in Class XII 
despite opposition and has secured admission to a prestigious Delhi University 
college.

friendly university to the challenged students.

will enable more information about interiors to be fed to the user via a mobile

IIT-Madras last week. Sriram is a commerce graduate from Loyola College who

titled Sustainable Development through Corporate Social Responsibility and 
Related Business Practices.
