By doing the genetic test you cannot prevent the disease but can only predict
if it is going to occur.

Re: [AI] RP father

2015-10-15 Thread Kotian, H P
Hi
It is best to get opinion from a councellor. However, for general info, let me
answer
in this case if the child is a girl, the chances goes a little high, however,
if the child is a boy the chances drops considerably.
Further, if the problem is running in her mother's family tree, the chances of
it being carried down gives higher probability. If it is running in her fathers
side, chances gets even.

if the same query is framed differently:
If the boy is having RP and the girl is able bodied?
the chances is even for a boy and a girl child
However, if the girl child is able bodied then the chances of her being a
carrier drops sharply.
Harish.

2015-10-15 Thread Dr.B.S.M.Kumar
Dear Akash,
It depends upon the type of RP, whether it is Autosomal Dormant,
Autosomal Recessive, or X linked. In addition, it depends upon the
family history. As I've pointed out in my earlier mail, on this
thread, all the answers to your question can be obtained during the
counselling session with a good Medical genetist.
Hope this helps,
regards,

Dear Umesha,
Yes they do suggest genetic testing. The tests are not cheap. The cost
range from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000. In fact, the genetic specialist
will be able to predict the inheritance of the disease to the future
generation during the counselling session, with the help of your
family tree.
In case you need the contact information of the genetic specialist,
please contact me off list and I will provide the same to you.
Hope this helps.

 Dear Mohit,

There are genetic counseling centers available at hospitals like
sankar netralaya. You can get genetic counseling done taking into the
account factors like family history, marriage amongst blood relatives,
etc. They will give a probability of the next generation picking up
the disease. Having said this, its only probability and nothing can
 be assured.

Re: [AI] RP father

2015-10-14 Thread Madhav kumar
Dear Dr. Vamshi,
Ideal situation has past now.
Sir, if the genetic test of the baby is performed now, will that rule out
the possibility of any eye related issue.
What is the right age for the baby to go for the genetic test.

Madhav

2015-10-13 Thread Vamshi. G
Dear Mohit,

There are genetic counseling centers available at hospitals like
sankar netralaya. You can get genetic counseling done taking into the
account factors like family history, marriage amongst blood relatives,
etc. They will give a probability of the next generation picking up
the disease. Having said this, its only probability and nothing can
be assured.

Hi,

Ideally this exercise should have been undertaken before going for
children. Now the problem can only be identified, not prevented.

I was diagnosed at the age of 3 when my parents found that I was not
pointing out objects properly. May be a reputed hospital can test for
the same.
