[AI] RSS feeds

2023-08-15 Thread george.abraham0
Hi Friends,

Guidance on RSS feeds please.

1. How do I look for RSS feeds on a website?
2. How do I configure Outlook to download RSS feeds on a daily basis?
3. Are there RSS readers that one can use on an iPhone?

Thanks,

George

Re: [AI] RSS Feeds.

2010-11-24 Thread Sharma G
Hello Sir,
If your RSS feeds re not updating properly in Internet Explorer 8
(most probably in Windows Vista or Windows 7), there are couple of
things you can try.

Problem Type1: Feed Synchronization Issue

Fir and fore most verify if the feed synchronization is corrupted.
Here is how you do it.

Open a command prompt (Click stat, type cmd.exe and click on the
cmd.exe to opena command shell)
Type in the following command
schtasks /query | findstr /i user_feed

If you see error in the output then your feed synchronization is broken.
Errors look something similar to
ERROR: The task image is corrupt or has been tampered with.
ERROR: Task cannot be loaded: User_Feed_Synchronization-{.

To fix the Feed synchronization issue, run the following commands at
the command prompt.

msfeedssync disable

msfeedssync enable

This should take care of the feed sync problem.

Problem Type2: Corrupted RSS feed database

If you do not see any errors in the Feed Synchronization then the
problem might be with the Feed Database. To fix this issue. lets
start with exporting all out feeds so that we don’t have re-subscribe
again.

Open IE, and click Alt key to get to the menu bar.
Go to the File menu and click “Import and Export .”
Select Export to a file and click next
Select feeds and click next.
Export the OPML file to some place where you remember.
Now lets delete the feed databases. Close all IE windows.

Browse to the following folder
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Feeds (Do not for to
replace YourUserName with your actual user name).
Select all the contents in the folder and delete them.
Now, lets import our saved feeds. Open IE and go to File menu (Click
Alt button to get the menu bar)

Select Import And Export. and click next
Select Import from a file and click next
Check the feeds box and click next
Select the previously saved OPML file and click next.
You should be all done, and hopefully your feeds are now working as expected.

With regards,
Mr. Sharma

I THINK THAT YOU COULD TRY RSS POPPER WHICH IS AN ADD-IN FOR OUTLOOK.

YOU WOULD RECEIVE FEEDS IN YOUR INBOX, WHICH USUALLY CONSIST OF A TITLE AND A

 Hi,

To illustrate using RSS in Firefox, I will take the example
 of The Hindu.

 1.    Once on the website www.thehindu.com,
look for the link RSS Feeds. For convenience, you can use
the links list dialog box. This is the RSS Feeds page for
 The Hindu:
 http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/rss/index.htm.
 2.    There are a bunch of feeds on this
page corresponding to different sections of the newspaper.
If you wish to subscribe to all, you would have to manually
subscribe to each one of them. So, to start, press enter on
the first one, which is the News Update.
 3.    To add the feed of News Updates as a
Live Bookmark, select Live Bookmarks from Subscribe to this
feed combo box. Then, press the Subscribe Now button.
 4.    Make your selections in the Live
Bookmarks dialog box, which is similar to the regular
 Bookmarks dialog.
 5.    Now to view the feed items, go to the
location you selected in the previous dialog box, the
default one is under the Bookmarks Toolbar. It would be the
last item in the sub menu opened by pressing the Right
arrow, and if you haven't changed the named it will be
labeled as The Hindu - News Updates.
 6.    You can Right arrow again to open this
sub menu and press enter on each feed headline to reach the
 page with the news content.
 7.    A better way is to use the Open All in
Tabs option that is always located at the bottom of every
Bookmarks sub menu. All your feed items will be opened as
tabs in the same window. You can read each page and then
press CTRL+W to close the tab and automatically go to the
 next one.

For convenience, you can use the links list dialog box. This is the RSS Feeds
page for The Hindu:
http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/rss/index.htm.
2. There are a bunch of feeds on this page corresponding to different
sections of the newspaper. If you wish to subscribe to all, you would have to
manually subscribe to each one of them. So, to start, press enter on the first
one, which is the News Update.
3. To add the feed of News Updates as a Live Bookmark, select Live
Bookmarks from Subscribe to this feed combo box. Then, press the Subscribe Now
button.
4. Make your selections in the Live Bookmarks dialog box, which is similar
to the regular Bookmarks dialog.
5. Now to view the feed items, go to the location you selected in the
previous dialog box, the default one is under the Bookmarks Toolbar. It would
be the last item in the sub menu opened by pressing the Right arrow, and if you
haven't changed the named it will be labeled as The Hindu - News Updates.
6. You can Right arrow again to open this sub menu and press enter on each
feed headline to reach the page with the news content.
7. A better way is to use the Open All in Tabs option that is always
located at the bottom of every Bookmarks sub menu. All your feed items will be
opened as tabs in the same window. You can read each page and then press CTRL+W
to close the tab and automatically go to the next one.

Actually the problem is in reading
the news paper, since when we exit after reading any llink,
the focus is shifted to the top of the page, rather remain
to the visited link and have to arrow down to the next
link, which consumes a lot of time.  In the webb IE,
this problem was not there and the time could be saved.

Re: [AI] RSS Feeds was: web brouser in ubuntu

2010-02-26 Thread KARAN GUPTA

Hi ya

What is RSS?
RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing
web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online
publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.

Why RSS? Benefits and Reasons for using RSS

RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows
you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the
sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit
each site individually. You ensure your privacy, by not needing to
join each site's email newsletter. The number of sites offering RSS
feeds is growing rapidly and includes big names like Yahoo News.

What do I need to do to read an RSS Feed?
Feed Reader or News Aggregator software allow you to grab the RSS
feeds from various sites and display them for you to read and use.

A variety of RSS Readers are available for different platforms. Some
popular feed readers include Amphetadesk (Windows, Linux, Mac),
FeedReader(Windows), and NewsGator (Windows - integrates with
Outlook). There are also a number of web-based feed readers available.
My Yahoo, Bloglines, and Google Reader are popular web-based feed
readers.

Once you have your Feed Reader, it is a matter of finding sites that
syndicate content and adding their RSS feed to the list of feeds your
Feed Reader checks. Many sites display a small icon with the acronyms
RSS, XML, or RDF to let you know a feed is available.

Cheers

RSS feeds – really simple sindication, or ritch site summary, if you
wish – is a convenient way of getting the updates of a website without
actually visiting it. So, want to subscribe to thehindu, BBC, or a

RSS is very helpful in those cases...
Hope this helps,

The link for downloading WebIE is:

It comes with many more utilities and a text only web browser.

Thanks
Dipendra
