Re: [AI] SmartCane Device
Hello, I collected my smart cane from NAB, West Bengal last Thursday. It's excellent and very helpful. However, it seems, the makers have compromised the longevity of the stick to keep it light-weight. It's very light and may be damaged if it gets into the spoke of a cycle or something like that. Even if a man fumbles on it, it may be damaged. I would request for a more robust and hardy stick. My stick frequently gets damaged. The smar device is attached to a standard Dehradun tick which can be folded into six parts. But when the device is attached, the stick can be folded into three segments. It is too long for an office bag. Though the device is removable, it is not advisable to attach and remove it frequently. It takes time and the lock may be damaged. At least the stick with the device attached should be folded into four segments. Or, the device fitting may be made smaller to fit into the second part. Then it can be folded into six segments. The actual device is just the size of two wrist watches placed one on the other. I must thank the developpers for introducing such a device at such a cost. It is clear that they have taken into consideration many difficulties. It needs a Nokia battery wich is easily available. The vibrations are very clear and distinct. Hi all, Please see the following website which describes the smart cane in detail. http://smartcane.saksham.org/ To respond to the poster who said that the smart cane vibrates constantly in cities, yes, it may do so but the devil is in the detail. You need to track the vibratory patterns which tell you how close you are to an obstacle. Please try the product before making a final decision.
