Re: [AI] Want to buy a musical keyboard

2014-03-19 Thread Shireen Irani
in this case, it refers to any instrument that generates sound out of
itself, and not electronically.

so anything non-electronic, such as the flute, your basic guitar,
drums, etc, that do not use electronic/digital means or electronic
processors to produce music, would be an acoustic instrument.

i dont mean to put u off, but general questions such as these can be
either located quite easily on line, or you could write to me off the
list, if it is not directly accessability related.
thanx.

Re: [AI] Want to buy a musical keyboard

2014-03-18 Thread Shireen Irani
i think, and hope, that the main confusion is between a keybord and a Casio.
well, do u know how when we want to buy a water bottle, we sometimes
ask the shop keeper for a bislerry??
so bislerry is just 1 of the brands of water available in the market,
but that name is extended to the product itself, right??
similarly, Casio happened to be 1 of the 1st few brands of keybords,
and hence a lot of people extended the turm Casio to any keybord they
referred to. so its basically an extention, or just another name for
any electronic keybord, while in fact, also being 1 among many
competing brands of keybords.
so any electronic portable keybord is a keybord, and sometimes loosely
called a Casio, whereas, the full-fledged upright acoustic instrument,
that is not so easily portable is a piano.
although pianos conventionally do not work on electricity, there are
now also electric pianos, also known as digital pianos.

all keybords are digital keybords.

the only thing non-digital would be a full-fledged piano. which is
purely acoustic and does not run on electricity.

രരDear all,

I am also planning to buy a digital keyboard. I am not a professional
musician. My objective is to learn keyboard right from the basic
lessons. I belong to Kerala in South India and my field of interest is
Karnatic based melodious songs. I want to learn playing such songs in
it. Also I would like to have the Indian instruments like flute,
sitar, santoor, tabla, mridangam etc which will be more useful to
materialise my objective.

I am not having an idea to become a keyboardist by profession, but I
want to learn it as part of my personal enjoyment. I would like to
have a keyboard which is the most durable as I can keep it with me for
ever and enjoy playing it.
I searched a lot and fount one keyboard named Yamaha PSR I455 which is
having some indian instruments in it. But I am not having a clear idea
of the product. So could you please help me in identifying the best
product for me.

Also please throw some light in to the area of it's accessibility.

Re: [AI] Want to buy a musical keyboard

2014-03-17 Thread Alok Kaushik

Hi Sumesh,
I bought Yahama PSR E313 a few years ago. It is a good one. There may have
been some changes in the model over these years. It does not have any
talking features though. I have its user manual in PDF format, which can be
referred to.

I have created my own reference document to identify different keys and
functions. Different panels have different sizes and shapes of keys so
locating a key is not difficult if you know which key you are looking for.
Memory serves as the best tool.

There are some features like listen and learn that display notes on a LCD
screen. These features cannot be used without sighted assistence.

Let me know if you decide to buy Yahama PSR series keyboard and would like
to have its user manual in PDF format.

Thanks.
Alok

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your valuable info.
I'm not learning Karnatic classical, but I love to play simple
malayalam, tamil or hindi film songs which is having a melodious
touch.
Will the yamaha keyboard which I mentioned suitable for this purpose?

Re: [AI] Want to buy a musical keyboard

2014-03-14 Thread ishita kapoor
hello shireen,,
i was talking about roland e09 in, not e09.
e09 in has more indian instruments. and tones of that keyboard are
switter and more professional in compare to old e09.

hi,

1st, please note, that all fully professional key-bords are priced
above 5. so the range u are looking at, are the semi-professional
ones, which are also not bad, but it all depends on your requirements
and what is your idea of professional.
if you want it for bolliwood live shows, then yes, the roland e09 is
quite good, and u could also look at the corg P A 50.
if u want 1 for programming, or western music, then you will have to
invest a bit more.
its best to go to a show room that has all varieties, and c what suits
your needs best.

if you want, once you have done that and narrowed down to 2 or 3
keybords, then you could perhaps write to me off list, and i'll help u
select the best from them.

hope that helps,
best,
shireen.
