Re: [AI] Workshop on talking atms held

2016-05-17 Thread Asudani, Rajesh
Dear Harish

The kind of volley of thorns thrown at me the moment I dared open my mouth
about talking ATM India and my survey yielding no talking ATM in main areas of
Nagpur, left me in a semi comatose state.

I unconditionally accept that all ATMs mentioned on the site are fully talking
and withdraw all my observations with more than sincere apologies.

Long live talking ATMs, long live banks and longer still my blind brethren!

Dear Rajesh

I have been following this thread closely and at point, I did not find any
post which suggested they would not drop wrong labeling as Accessible Atm.
Nevertheless, I called folks at TalkingATM and was told, they did not
recieve any specific ATM which was wrongly labeled.

Positive critisim is welcome however sharp generalisation would be
demotivating for sure.

We should be aware of it when interacting in public space.
User rating, feedback is now / is being introduced. This should give users
better perspective and again it is our responsibility to give the feedback
for it work effectively.

Well, a small correction.
Due to mis information by banks, and talking ATM India's non committal
attitude about removing reported non-talking ATMs from the list, many of
talking ATMs may not provide you with all options said in voice guidance.

You may have to be content with only welcome and wait messages...
Just being pragmatic, nothing to hurt dedicated work being done, please.

Hi
To my understanding, the data sourced from Banks, which is labeled as
fully accessible by them. It is not at all posible this portal to
physically verify the data. It is here that the role of the community
begins.
Firstly we need to use the service to its fullest and provide the
feedback

on any of the data is not correct. When this data is brought to the
notice

of the Bank officials, they shall of course correct the error, more
importantly they will be more careful and have better understanding why
they labeled it as accessible in the first place.
There would definately some learning phase and such feedback is a step
in

the right direction however the feedback should be specific and not
general in this case.

Friends
There was a news about workshop about talking ATMs wherein about 40
blind

persons were trained in using them at Nagpur recently.

This prompted me to take out the list of talking ATMs in Nagpur from
www.talkingatmindia.in
I found about 49 talking ATMs listed.

I along with a friend, an escort and a driver undertook the survey of
about ten such ATMs in the posh localities of Nagpur on Saturday, May
7,

2016 from 3 P.M. to 6 P.M.

I am sorry to say that none of the ATMs we surveyed is totally
talking.

Some are virtually silent, except the beeping sound of the buttons,
others do welcome and bid us goodbye, prompting to enter secret code
and

wait for transaction to be completed.

Now, friends all of you would agree that such partially talking ATMs
are
useless to say the least and tantalizing illusions for the blind to
say

the worst.

I am amazed as to how talkingatmindia is taking the bankers at face
value

and swelling the list of talking ATMs in India.
Being a central banker, I know fully well how the bankers indulge in
window dressing to show compliance.
I know a template exists which has to be followed to make it ful

Hi
To my understanding, the data sourced from Banks, which is labeled as
fully accessible by them. It is not at all posible this portal to
physically verify the data. It is here that the role of the community
begins.
Firstly we need to use the service to its fullest and provide the feedback
on any of the data is not correct. When this data is brought to the notice
of the Bank officials, they shall of course correct the error, more
importantly they will be more careful and have better understanding why
they labeled it as accessible in the first place.
There would definately some learning phase and such feedback is a step in
the right direction however the feedback should be specific and not

Friends
There was a news about workshop about talking ATMs wherein about 40 blind
persons were trained in using them at Nagpur recently.

This prompted me to take out the list of talking ATMs in Nagpur from
www.talkingatmindia.in
I found about 49 talking ATMs listed.

I along with a friend, an escort and a driver undertook the survey of
about ten such ATMs in the posh localities of Nagpur on Saturday, May 7,
2016 from 3 P.M. to 6 P.M.

I am sorry to say that none of the ATMs we surveyed is totally talking.
Some are virtually silent, except the beeping sound of the buttons,
others do welcome and bid us goodbye, prompting to enter secret code and
wait for transaction to be completed.

Now, friends all of you would agree that such partially talking ATMs are
useless to say the least and tantalizing illusions for the blind to say
the worst.

I am amazed as to how talkingatmindia is taking the bankers at face value
and swelling the list of talking ATMs in India.
Being a central banker, I know fully well how the bankers indulge in
window dressing to show compliance.
I know a template exists which has to be followed to make it fully
talking.
But the website does not seem to have bothered to verify actually whether
they are talking.

I urge to the site owners to take down the list and include any ATM
actually after having its accessibility fully verified.

Don't just indulge in numbers like bankers.

Re: [AI] Workshop on talking atms held

2016-05-10 Thread Asudani, Rajesh
Friends
There was a news about workshop about talking ATMs wherein about 40 blind
persons were trained in using them at Nagpur recently.

This prompted me to take out the list of talking ATMs in Nagpur from
www.talkingatmindia.in
I found about 49 talking ATMs listed.

I along with a friend, an escort and a driver undertook the survey of about ten
such ATMs in the posh localities of Nagpur on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 3 P.M.
to 6 P.M.

I am sorry to say that none of the ATMs we surveyed is totally talking.
Some are virtually silent, except the beeping sound of the buttons, others do
welcome and bid us goodbye, prompting to enter secret code and wait for
transaction to be completed.

Now, friends all of you would agree that such partially talking ATMs are
useless to say the least and tantalizing illusions for the blind to say the
worst.

I am amazed as to how talkingatmindia is taking the bankers at face value and
swelling the list of talking ATMs in India.
Being a central banker, I know fully well how the bankers indulge in window
dressing to show compliance.
I know a template exists which has to be followed to make it fully talking.
But the website does not seem to have bothered to verify actually whether they
are talking.

I urge to the site owners to take down the list and include any ATM actually
after having its accessibility fully verified.
Don't just indulge in numbers like bankers.

Workshop on talking ATMs held for visually impaired
Barkha Mathur
 | TNN | May 7, 2016, 06.59 PM IST

NAGPUR: Jidnyasa Chawaldhal has been striving to make life of physically
challenged and those with impaired vision better. Since the time she lost her
vision at the age of 18, Jidnyasa has been evolving methods that reduce the
dependency of visually impaired and physically challenged.
Through her NGO Atmadeepam Society, an NGO working for Education, Training and
Rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, she is putting blind persons
through courses such as MS CIT, MS office, and other computer proficiency
courses, independent living skills, kitchen orientation, family life education,
cooking.

Having faith in technology which she says is disabled friendly, Jidnyasa feels
that she can help the physically challenged live independent lives. Her
latest initiative is a workshop for 40 visually impaired persons to provide
training in the use of Talking ATM in collaboration with SBI. "Special earphones
are available using which a visually impaired person can easily operate an ATM
machine. It will go a long way in boosting the confidence of a disabled
person," she says.
